News bites: July 15, 2023

  • Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth) is considering a starring role in a new action-comedy called Good Boy. Still in the planning stages, the story will be looking at corruption and cheating in competitive sports and will feature a group of retired athletes who are recruited for the Olympics as a special police unit. PD Shim Na-yeon (The Good Bad Mother) is attached to direct with scripts by Lee Dae-il (Life on Mars, Chief of Staff). [News]

  • Sung Hoon (Woori the Virgin) and Jung Yoo-min (Celebrity) have been cast as the leads in MBN’s new romance Perfect Marriage Revenge. Based on a popular web novel by the same title, we can expect a bundle of tropes with a revenge-bent heroine and a contract marriage complicating everyone’s emotions. Production will have Im Seo-ra writing and PD Oh Sang-won (Love ft. Marriage & Divorce III) at the helm. [News1 (1), (2)]

  • Disney+ released new posters for their upcoming action sci-fi Moving, this time featuring our adult leads: Ryu Seung-ryong (Kingdom), Han Hyo-joo (Happiness), and Jo In-sung (It’s Okay That’s Love) – in addition to Ryu Seung-beom (Tazza: One Eyed Jack). Coming to our screens next month, the webtoon adaptation will be dropping its first 7 episodes across the globe on August 9. Subsequent episodes will be made available two a week thereafter. [News1]
  • The promos continue for SBS’s crime-thriller The First Responders 2 as well, with Kim Rae-won (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning), Sohn Ho-joon (Work Later Drink Now 2), and Gong Seung-yeon (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls) leading the pack in the new posters and video teaser. The new second season will be launching on August 4, following Revenant in the weekend slot. [Newsen, SBS (1), (2)]

  • In the meantime, tvN’s sequel for The Uncanny Counter is just weeks away and we see in the newest trailer that our heroes – and villains – are ready for their showdown. With the ensemble cast led by Jo Byung-kyu (Stove League), Yoo Joon-sang (Alchemy of Souls), Kim Se-jung (Today’s Webtoon), and Yeom Hye-ran (The Glory), the action-fantasy premieres this month on July 29. [10 Asia]
  • Over on MBC’s My Dearest, the new batch of stills has our four leads spending some time in wistful romance as trouble brews in the world around them. Starring Namgoong Min (One Dollar Lawyer), Ahn Eun-jin (The Good Bad Mother), Lee Hak-joo (Shadow Detective), and Lee Da-in (Alice), the sageuk is slated to broadcast in the weekend slot starting August 4. [MBC (1), (2), (3)]

Good Boy The title alone is very fitting to PBG. I will surely watch out for this for PBG, but it’s a plus that the story interests me.
I’m currently watching The Uncanny Counter 1 and enjoying it a lot. I’m already excited for season 2.
Ahn Eun-jin and Namgoong Min together in a drama - I won’t miss it for sure.

I will be using my best expectation management strategies while waiting for confirmation. If it is confirmed I will have to continue to rein it in to see if it’s action at a level I can handle, I just about managed Seobok, so hopefully I will be fine. In the meantime I am looking forward to the release of his next drama You did good with IU.

Sorry, I missed the end off the first sentence: whether Bogummy will take on the role.

Of course we knew you meant the PBG news even without the Seobok reference. ;)

thank you sunday morning, it was worth waking up to see Bogummys´ face first thing. who wouldnt like that.
ah. but that is a bit dangerous territory. every time somebody pokes sports, some sponsors and whatnot raise to their feet and exclaim it is sacred. it is annoying. everybody knows what is going on but it is impossible to beat the system.
then if it is action comedy... is the comedy in the fact that Bogummy would stop half way through a chase to hug puppies?

Oof got scared for moment there when I saw Park Bo-gum and GOOD BAD MOTHER in the same update. Thankfully it's only the PD, who also did the critically acclaimed BEYOND EVIL and the writer's previous works have good reviews too. Looking forward to it if he decides to take the role! Tho I'm hoping the title is ironic and instead he's a tsundere. Bo-gum has range but he's been typecasted and the worst offender was ENCOUNTER, he redeemed himself imo with RECORD OF YOUTH, but I desperately want a BAD BOY Bo-gum okay?

No.1 GOOD BOY. I am going to keep an eye out for this one. My only Park Bo-gum drama is KBS’s HELLO MONSTER/I REMEMBER YOU (2015) (Viki US) (5 *****s). Great drama.
As indicated above the screenwriter gave us OCN’s LIFE ON MARS (2018) which was also a five star drama.
GOOD BOY with PBG (playing a former boxer, right up my ally) in an ensemble cast sounds like maybe OCN’s BAD GUYS (2014) in an alternate universe where a bunch of ‘good’ guys are brought together to take down bad guys.

I do wish PBG will take on a role similar to Min in Hello Monster. It doesnt have to be a drama, a movie is okay. But I do hope he tries other genres in his future projects.

Any opportunity to see Park Bogum in a drama is very welcome. I guess there will be another drama or movie when he can go all scruffy or dark. If he will take this, I hope the drama name will change. "Good boy" reminds me of a cute puppy or it can lean more towards GD x Taeyang's version https://youtu.be/1ZRb1we80kM

1 - premise and crew are good, but I'm allergic to PBG, so pass, sadly.
2 - marriage revenges are back in vogue? I swear I've read about another drama with this theme not so long ago... The one with PMY, I think.
3 - greedy mouse being extra greedy *sigh*
4 - was the first season good? I've been rather disappointed with the last rescuer show I watched and don't want to waste my time on another blunder.
6 - such a snowy drama to cool us a bit in this hot summer lol.

Am I the only one who does get a sense of discomfort with Bo Gum? I feel the whole good boy / poster boy persona made up? No reason. Just my gut reaction. I liked his work in Hello Monster. But I somehow never buy the rest of the stuff.

Do not come to me with your tomatoes, eggs and knives folks. :-D

You are entitled to your view so I will stand guard. I don’t trust celebs who go to luxury brand fashion shows as a rule of thumb. Yes, it might be unreasonable but ….

"I don't trust celebs who go to luxury brand fashion shows..."

Isn't this 95% of celebs?
