News bites: July 11, 2023

  • New posters have arrived for KBS’s upcoming My Lovely Boxer, which stars Lee Sang-yub (Eve) as an infamous sports agent who strives to revive the career of the young retired boxer Kim So-hye (How to Buy a Friend). Written by Kim Min-joo with co-directing by PD Choi Sang-yeol and PD Hong Eun-mi, the sports drama will be taking us into the ring on August 21. [KBS]

  • In the meantime, MBC takes us back to the Joseon-era with My Dearest, releasing new character stills of our fated pair: Namgoong Min (One Dollar Lawyer) and Ahn Eun-jin (The Good Bad Mother). Also starring Lee Hak-joo (Shadow Detective), and Lee Da-in (Alice), the sageuk romance premieres on August 4, following Numbers in the weekend slot. [MBC (1), (2)]

  • Speaking of historicals, Lee Hyun-wook (Remarriage & Desires) is on the casting table for Won-kyung, potentially joining Cha Joo-young (The Real Has Come) who is up to play the title role. Still in the planning stages, production is being led by the Money Game team, PD Kim Sang-ho and writer Lee Young-mi. [Star News]
  • Lee Seon-kyun (Payback) and Yoo Jae-myung (Juvenile Justice) are considering roles in a new crime-thriller and black comedy called Public Assassin (roughly translated). With filmmaker Choi Gook-hee (Life Is Beautiful) attached to direct and scripts by screenwriter Lee Soo-jin (The Devil’s Deal), the series is planning to start filming later this year. [JTBC, YTN]

  • On the JTBC front, our investigative leads are sniffing out clues in the new poster for Behind Your Touch, with the psychometric vet Han Ji-min (Yonder) lending her powers to the sleuthing detective Lee Min-ki (My Liberation Notes). The fantasy rom-com is set to follow King the Land in the weekend slot, premiering next month on August 12. [JTBC]
  • Netflix has been keeping busy with promos as well, releasing a slew of new stills for D.P. 2. Starring Jung Hae-in (Connect), Gu Kyo-hwan (Monstrous), Kim Sung-kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin), and Sohn Seok-gu (Big Bet) among others, the new second season will be coming to our screens this month on July 28. The ear muffs on My dearest look so toasty and avoid overheated head syndrome!

Yes, and meanwhile the male lead is stuck with that absurdly impractical gat, the brim of which will load up with snow and make it impossible to be warm or even walk upright. But men are just so vain, that they'd rather look good than dress properly for the weather!

My Dearest wasn't on my radar at first, but I'm in the mood for a sweeping, angsty romance/sageuk~

I have a feeling I am going to get headaches at the aches, but I too am in the mood for an angsty romance/saeguk. Bring the DRAMA.

Whenever NGM or Jang Hyuk play it straight in a drama, there is usually a moment where soul-destroying despair is expressed just using the eyes, which leaves me wondering if I have masochistic tendencies.

I wonder why the name was changed from Lovers to My Dearest (though I suppose My Dearest sounds more epic & romantic)

Copyright issues? That title was absurdly generic, I bet there's already a few k-shows/movies with such name.

Lee min ki in a fantasy rom-com, I am in. Just do not want a repeat of the Oh My ladylord (Oh master)!

JTBC just dropped another teaser for Behind Your Touch with focus on Lee Min-ki’s character. I didn’t understand much (because there was no sub) but I already find it hilarious. I missed LMK’s on point and effortless comedic reactions.

The show looks promising, and so does LMK and Han Ji-min’s chemistry. But then, LMK has great chemistry with all of his female leads. Fight me.

Came over to see which “facts,” and quite agree.

However (하지만), when I went up to look at the poster again, I got a rude awakening of an idea.

You know how the font for the title of the show is all bulbous and bubbly like a butt? Well, look at the FL’s dimples up there…aren’t they also, well, sort of butt-reminiscent?

EeeEEWEwweww!🤢

Behind your touch is from the same team who made The light in your eyes so I have high hopes. The director tends to bring out the best in his actors. Lee min ki and han jimin, I can see a chaotic pairing. Jiminki

Now I am so waiting for August! It also released a bit later than the actual release in other parts on the world on Netflix. But I can wait! @Seon-ha, lets wait together!
