First script reading for ENA’s Evilive

ENA’s Evilive (previously called Biography of a Villain) has kicked off their promo campaign, releasing footage from the drama’s first script reading with leads Shin Ha-kyun (Yonder), Kim Young-kwang (Call It Love), and Shin Jae-ha (Taxi Driver 2).

At the center of the noir is our rational and jobbing lawyer Han Dong-soo (Shin Ha-kyun), who sees prisons as a hive for potential clients and initiates visits to solicit his attorney services. But despite appearing harmless, Dong-soo’s inner tiger has been restless, and how can anyone resist Seo Do-young’s (Kim Young-kwang) offer to cross the boundary into his world?

It is, of course, a dangerous choice, as Do-young is the mob’s number two and we hear parts of his proposition in the script reading clips. Do-young menaces, saying, “Do you think I got to this position with just my fists?” and when Dong-soo is confused about why he was called here (Do-young’s court case is closed and will soon be released from prison), Do-young replies, “Did I ask you to defend a law case? I’m just bored…”

We then meet Shin Jae-ha as Dong-soo’s younger brother Han Beom-jae and while I dread a dark turn for his character (please spare my heart), it’s cute to see the two Shins wearing matching colors at the reading. While working at a used computer shop, Beom-jae also digs around for information and brokers cases for Dong-soo. Although mom Gil Hae-yeon (Can We Be Strangers) is worried about Dong-soo, Beom-jae encourages his brother to not be over cautious.

On the production side, PD Kim Jung-min (Remarriage & Desires, Bad Guys) and PD Kim Sung-min are co-directing, with scripts by Seo Hui and Lee Seung-hoon.

Premiering next month on October 14, Evilive will be airing in a new Saturday-Sunday slot on ENA.

Let’s see if Kim Young-kwan can spark the sparks that Yeo Jin-goo ignited with Shin Ha-kyun so brightly in Beyond Evil.

Shin has never disappointed in my book whether as a protagonist or antagonist - or in-between is perhaps where he excels the best!

He's one of my favorite also. He "lives" his roles. He is a method actor is he not? So good.

Yes, he’s the old school type actor who builds and lives the character he plays. So good as you said!

Do I like the title  ... meh ... but will watch nevertheless.

Kim Young-kwang's last villainous turn in "Somebody" left me scared witless, so much so that I was unable to finish it.

But KYK was so good (also hot) in it and those glasses 😎 made him look cool instead of nerdy 🤓. How did he manage that? Those eyes and intense stare behind the glasses was enough to melt any girl. No it was not a rom-com that was another drama - "The Secret Life of My Secretary" or more recently "Call it Love" again not a rom-com ...maybe rom, failed revenge, tragic, heart wrenching but so good love story.

I am not recommending "Somebody" to anybody not even somebody ... heh. KYK's character was very scary and did very  scary things but in case you want to watch a very handsome man do scary things in the name of preparation for watching "Evilive" please do it at your own risk.

It was difficult to wrap my head around the fact that KYK was the ML in "The Secret Life of My Secretary". I remember the scene of his washing the FL's hands was a very popular (and hot) forward during lockdown. 👐

KYK you're welcome to come and wash my hands anyday, anytime, anywhere ... in my dreams at least.
