Park Jung-min and Jisoo may team up against Influenza

A new Coupang Play original is in the works, and the production team is certainly aiming for the stars with their casting calls. Set in the midst of a zombie outbreak, Influenza has scouted Chungmuro veteran Park Jung-min (Hellbound) and Blackpink’s Jisoo (Snowdrop) to play its leads. Adapted from the novel of the same name, the drama will portray the rekindling of love amidst the struggle for survival.

If he accepts the role, Park Jung-min will star as the soldier Jae-yoon, who enlisted late at the age of 26. Having spent the past few years attempting to obtain a job in the defense sector in order to qualify for alternative civilian service, Jae-yoon’s not quite sure of his direction in life. As such, he’s been clinging on to his girlfriend Young-joo (Jisoo) as his only compass — until she breaks up with him, and he’s left to flounder.

Young-joo has her reasons for the split, though. Jae-yoon has been putting all his eggs in one basket, leaving him with too much uncertainty about his future and too little energy to take care of Young-joo. With him enlisted, it’s been even harder on Young-joo, and she eventually decides that she’d be better off single.

Neither of them expect to see each other again, but the world has other plans. When a zombie outbreak overruns the city, the stage is set for them to run into — or run towards — each other again. Once weak and lacking confidence, Jae-yoon gradually comes into his own while fighting off the monsters, eventually taking the helm of his ragtag survival squad.

It’s the perfect opportunity for Young-joo to see Jae-yoon in a new light, while also building her own tenacity. With a common enemy and the shared goal of survival, perhaps the two ex-lovers may find comfort in camaraderie, sentiment in solidarity, and romance in resilience. Who knows? Maybe the outbreak might just be the perfect wingman for the pair.

Helmed by PD Yoon Sung-hyun (Time to Hunt) with scripts written by Han Jin-won (Parasite) and Ji Ho-jin, Influenza will be released via the streaming platform Coupang Play.

I’m scratching my head why he’s doing a drama - probably because of having worked with the Director in Time To Hunt and also the parasite scriptwriter. I anticipate him to become the Song Kang Ho of his generation. Such a talented actor!

He is my favorite in his age group of film actors. I know that some growing actors would love the opportunity, but this pairing is less than exciting.

Exactly! He’s so versatile and does well in any characters and genres.

I genuinely want to know why so many well-known idols are so hell bent on getting into acting.

For most I would say: an idol career is short-lived by design, an acting career can last a lifetime if you play your cards right.

But frankly I think the Blackpink girlies are on a whole other level from basically any other idols in terms of popularity and could make bank for the rest of their lives with advertisements and brand ambassador deals alone sooooo.

Honestly, I'm surprised more don't give it a try. It has its downsides, yes, but if you're a creative type, acting is a fun and very lucrative career.

I’ve always been surprised none of the Twice girls have ever gone into acting. I know they are always really busy with group schedules and tours but you’d think with 9 members at least one would give it a go! Especially with Jeongyeon’s sister being an actress.

They're too busy making most of JYP's bank 😔

But ok no same here, I'm surprised too! Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think 2pm and technically GOT7 have been the only JYP groups with idol-actors? Very interesting! SM in comparison seems to have a TON - there was a list on reddit floating around somewhere about how almost every SM group had at least one idol-actor/actress.

JYP prefer to promote the whole group as one than promoting one or 2 members more than the others.

The thing is I don't think most idols who go into acting actually want to do it. D.O and Im Siwan do a great job, Sooyoung always looks like she is enjoying herself. At least, it seems like they took a few acting classes. Then you have Suzy and Yoona who have been improving since 2007.

“Then you have Suzy and Yoona who have been improving since 2007.”

Lmaooo! I really LOVED Suzy in ‘Start Up’ and Yoona in ‘King The Land’ but this comment is hilarious!!🤣

Because being an idol is crazy :
- They're all underweight;
- Crazy schedules;
- Difficult dances that are hard on the body;
- Saseang fans;
- They have to do a lof of fan services (call, vlog, fan sign, etc.).

It's a job after a certain age is more complicated too.

I neve saw her act and im not a fan of Blackpink
but the theme. and zombies (yes, you say zombie, you see my head pop out anywhere.) and Parasite writer.
I have no idea. Park Jung Min, I havent seen him in anything either but with that kind of vast experience he would prob carry it alone, and seems like his character has 80% of the weight here as well.

I do hope the female character is not a helpless princess in need of resque but knows how to fend for herself.

but could they plz not hurt the zombies? they did nothing wrong.

She was decent in "Snowdrop," especially considering it was her first role. Being paired with a pro like JHI probably helped, but she also seemed very competent in scenes without him. She has potential to be better than a couple of other idol-turned-actresses I can think of whose names rhyme with Darren and Boy.

Alrighty you've got to put my out of my misery - got Boy almost immediately but Darren is taking me an embarrassing amount of time. I've exhausted my mental list - can you give us another clue?

I somehow doubt that Jisoo will be the second coming of Uhm Jung-hwa.

At least the drama will receive a ton of media coverage now and who knows....it could be good.

The story seems simple/basic, coming from Parasite writer. It's odd. I'm hoping there's more to it.

The pairing is odd too, but half of it is probably from Coupang's insistence. They need subscribers.
