Drama viewership ratings for the week of November 20-26, 2023

It’s an interesting week of premieres and finales, with A Bloody Lucky Day charging in with its first episode, but then seeing a drop afterwards.

While the mid-week slots continue to be even sadder than usual, over the weekend in the Fri-Sat slots we had both My Demon and The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract premiere — the former debuting losing numbers for its second episode, while the latter does the opposite.

As for our finale, Strong Girl Nam-soon hits double digits as it comes to a close, and Castaway Diva and Perfect Marriage Revenge lean into their penultimate weeks.

Although I did not watch the sequel, I read somewhere that a 3rd part to "Strong Woman/Girl" franchise is in the works. Looking at the ratings I am not surprised.

Apparently it will be Strong Man Jang Choong Don.

I thought so too, but that is what they are planning.

To be blunt: wtf is the point of this show if the man is super strong? Half of the storyline, more than half, relates to it being a woman

@vienibenmio I guess the only point is all that 💸 which the production feels is flying towards them.

Korea and I agree on Strong Girl Nam-soon's 10% ratings. At first, I'd watched Strong Girl before Castaway Diva, but the Castaway episodes became a struggle to get through, so I switched them and started Castaway first to get it over with and saved Strong Girl for last, which infinitely improved my weekends.
The reason why I loved it is because of the OTP (they were a 10!), the drug investigation team (Chamma was a cutie), and villain Ryu Shi-oh, and they were over half the show.

It is quite a chore to complete Castaway Diva. I still did not watch Ep 10

Oh! You think so too. I'm like oh! it's only 20 mins how is the timestamp saying 74 minutes.
Same with PMR. 🤣

The week-end is so full and there will be Welcome to Samdal-ri on JTBC... I still didn't start Goryeo-Khitan War, I think it will have to wait a little bit :p

I hope The Matchmakers's ratings won't suffer too much with Jung Woo-sung's return on TV. This drama deserves so much better!

Not too bad a start for My Demon, though the dip for ep 2 💔 I figured anything with KYJ would pull ratings (from memory Red Sky did quite well despite the plot lol) but apparently not a given? Though, it's been holding number 4 in Netflix's Top 10 which rarely charts K-dramas I feel like so that's a win! Fighting MD team for next week!!

Glad to see The Marriage Contract drama landing very solidly though and Castaway Diva is doing great too - it'd be cool if it hit 10 for its final week at least. Feels like The Dog Show is actually not faring that badly, all things considered with how botched its already slim schedule has been over the past few weeks!

*should clarify, it's my region's Top 10 that rarely charts K-dramas, so was a pleasant surprise to see this quite high up!

But also after looking into it more, it seems like My Demon is charting well internationally & is in the Top 10 list across many countries. Which on reflection, sounds about right for a Song Kang drama, his stuff does tend to do better internationally, I think ?

I have no idea if Song Kang's stuff does better internationally in general (would love to see those data though), but he has been in a lot of Netflix Originals and Exclusives, so maybe people who only have Netflix are just familiar with him and ready to watch more?

He's the favourite son of Netflix since Love Alarm that did really well on Netflix.

My Demon is a simple romcom that wins on the visual side (both leads are good looking), but Park's Marriage has more to offer than simple fluffy romance as it combines time-travelling, thriller, mystery, comedy and family drama. The ending of episode 1 and 2 keep the audience on their toes and guessing what is coming up next. Don't forget that the main actress has a good history in MBC, as she previously acted as Deuk Im in The Red History, thus making her a wonderful bonus in this saeguk fantasy. As for trending, this drama comes third after Smugglers and A Bloody Lucky Day, when it comes to all the OTT in South Korea.

Are both shows airing at the same time?

Yeah I think so, PMC airs at 9:50pm KST and My Demon at 10pm KST, so it's a battle for viewership I suppose.

Good for us we don't have to choose. But it's a shame these shows are competing. They're both fun and deserve a lot of attention.

Yeah I wish they weren't so they'd get more love from SK audience :( And because I love them both it feels like picking between children or something. Maybe with Strong Woman ending and PMR ending soon, some of those viewers will migrate over to both PMC and MD and they'll both get a boost! It'd also be interesting to get viewership data on streaming since PMC is Viki/Viu for international and MD is on Netflix 🤔

I too am glad we don't have to choose and have both on accessible platforms!! (*side eyes Disney*)

I am not surprised with the strong performance showed by the two saeguks as 1. Daeha (true/accurately researched) saeguks are still popular among Koreans, especially when it is aired on a public channel, KBS has been doing it for ages, and these saeguks are hard to find these days (very, very rare) unless it coincides with some anniversary or so. 2. Although fantasy saeguk/fusion saeguks are rather unpopular as compared to daeha and faction saeguks like TRS, it comes after the ever popular My Dearest, plus the drama has two main leads from the The Red Sleeve (the young girl who played Deuk Im when she was small) and Lee Se Young, the actress who won the Best Actress Award through her perfomance as Deuk Im in The Red Sleeve in 2021-2022

Our weekender struggles and this week's episodes really gave us little reason to watch.

I have no idea what has happened with PERFECT MARRIAGE REVENGE other than noting that there are simply too many things loaded into the weekend in general and Saturday in particular.

Its an increase for PMR compared to last week! I count it as a win despite being against other weekend show on bigger networks.

I love the strong start for The Story of Park's Marriage Contract. It was a solid first two episodes.

Glad to see castaway diva and my demon doing well, but did PMR fall precipitously? Man.
LYOL needs to show some movement. Perhaps having HS finally stand up for herself will bring viewers back

LOL I love how consistent Moon Day fans are.

By accident I read PMarriageR ratings as Park's Marriage (EP2) ratings and I got scared for a second LOL.

I'm happy with Park and tabong's Demon ratings! I hope our demon gets that 1% back. Fighting!

I'm always surprised when my experiences are completely opposite to South Korean audiences. I had the exact opposite reactions to My Demon and Park's Marriage Contract. I thought the first ep of the latter was very rough while the second one was a slight improvement. Meanwhile, I was on board the Demon train from start to finish. surprised on the ratings for those two...

Same. I thought My Demon was sharper, don't know how long it can be that way. But I loved Park too, just a tad less. No one can compete with that pink water arch. 🤣
