Is anyone else still watching?? I'm enjoying this for some reason *hides* E2 made me a little crazy, first normalizing all her suspicions and then subverting them all over again. WHAT IS HAPPENING!

Oh, I'm definitely still watching ahahaha it's like indulging in a little makjang treat for an hour or two each week. I'm not usually a fan of shows with cheating husbands (hits a bit close to home with some family stuff) but oh my gosh this is fun. Also I'm a suckered for stalker shows.

Right?? Fun fact a crazy guy once found me off the internet in Korea and came to the church I was at one Sunday after sending me creepy messages for a few weeks. I'd blocked him and didn't think anything would come of it.. but then there he was- so I left the area and deleted my FB account and everything. We told the police. I thought I was in the clear, but then like a year and a half ago after I'd gotten married and everything he sent me messages not as a friend on messenger.. I blocked him again and have been very careful about posting anything with location online since and making sure only friends get to see my posts on social media

Has it been a hot minute in dramaland since we got an evil twin in the mix-up. I am liking the duality of Son Ho-jun.

Lee Ki-taek don't even try - even Ji Chang-wook cannot carry off shredded jeans, so you should not even think about it in your dreams. Although I must admit to finding you a wee bit swoony and maybe low-key shipping you with Jang Nara. But my friend you have strong strong competition against the evil one and let me tell you one look from him is enough to burn you to ashes.

So yes, honest / double dealing aside gimme the other one!!

Why do I feel with each episode my comment would be - "It's getting weirder and weirder". I knew those pills were iffy but now its like is anything she sees "real"? The stalker is and so is the evil twin apparently. Also are there twin daughters as well? That is the deal with the 2FL - didn't get scholarship money / living expenses from Daddy dearest?
A strong, powerful FL, at the top of her game, but about to be de-throned by her own illness, adulterous husband Maestra vibes anyone?

Episodes 3-4

So ... I'm the only Bean watching this, huh. Okay then. After episode 3 and thinking about Maestra comparisons I was wondering if FL's diagnosis / medical condition is real or medicine induced. Also is there really an evil twin or she is just imagining it. But then the pursuer was captured on camera. And we keep seeing the evil twin in T-shirt + coat combos keeping a watch while sitting in his car. I felt as if the hubby doesn't know and the evil twin keeps visiting their home disguised himself as the hubby. But then does the daughter know or is she also a twin.

The end of episode 3 was chilling and I'm happy we didn't have to wait for another week. But then beginning of episode 4 was... well what was it ... 🤷‍♀️

Halfway through episode 4, I had an epiphany that I should NOT try to think / overthink or try to guess the plot / logic. After all what we have here is a very competent and self-made FL who is being manipulated / gaslit by those closest to her but let me just trust her and go where the drama takes me. And the drama paid off that trust with JACKPOT!! 🎰 I do believe I have plunged head first into the Perfect Marriage Revenge of 2024!! 👏

The 2FL and her first meeting with the FL was heartbreaking but their warmth and instant understanding and laughter was so heartwarming and healing. Needless to say I warmed up quite a bit to the 2FL after that.

My no. 1 question is WAE ... why is the FL so important that she is manipulated by everybody around her. But okay even if there are no answers I'm okay, this is a fun ride so let me list out the things I really really really liked.

The silver fox Park Ho San is HOT! 🔥 😍 He has a good game. That poor cop was a bloody mess - beaten to a pulp. I liked that. Hehe. Also he was suspiciously eyeing the 2FL and seemed surprised to see her in her father's office.

Son Ho Jun is Hot HOT!! 🔥 🔥 😍 Both twins or not twin or whatever, he is a double patty burger of hotness. I'm not sure if there was actually a twin or if he is actually dead or maybe there were secretly triplets. OMO. But the fact that hubby placed that stalker in FL's office, manipulated the camera feed and is making X-rated movies with 2FL is all sus. Also is he the one sending random texts to FL.

Lee Ki Taek is hot, Hot, HOT!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥰 There was some secret rendezvous with the FL seven years ago. Was it like Fated, is the daughter his. How bad does the ML have it for you if he let's you smash his car to stop yours instead of you know just pulling the emergency brake. Well why would we do such mundane things in dramand.

Why does the 2FL think the daughter is hers. Why does her father support the FL but not her.

So yes, we are all set for next week. While I was not too happy about her NOT confronting the cheating husband earlier on, I loved the dinner table awkwardness with the 2FL and her...

I’m not sure what happened to the comments I’ve been making all along, huh. It’s a mystery. First, I love Jang Nara, she is an amazing actor. And I’m loving the rookie-ish actor playing Tae O. He has a Curious backstory and I am still not sure he is trustworthy. So, ep 5, random comments, so there is no twin (at least living)? Soon Young and Yoon Jon are having an affair? I think that’s clear. The father is a bad guy, or a good guy? This is unclear. What Jae Won believes is happening, - is it accurate or is it skewed because she isn’t taking her medication? How did she get this far in her career if her perspective is really that off? That much of a blur? I hate Yoon Jin! I am also kind of suspicious of Jae Won’s secretary, her boyfriend Seung Gu’s accident and involvement in stalking Jae Won is also unclear. I am intrigued but also confused about what to believe. Then there is the insurance guy all over the place. The drama hasn’t completely fallen to soap opera yeti, because I like the suspense and tension. Hopefully my comments will be more organized and helpful next time!

So, our "Forbidden High Key Shipping" Cult members, I have just caught up to the most recent episode and am current. Wondering how you feel about the ship with the latest reveals?

I'm still all in but sad that her marriage didn't work out for the reasons it didn't. Seemed liked he was once a great husband.

Anyway now that the marriage is dead, I'm ALL IN for our (sinking? sailing?) ship. No way it happens during these 16 episodes, more like she will have a fresh start?

1

Hehe right? Normally I actually have a super hard time with any sort of adultery loveline, but given the premise of the drama and the good feedback I thought I'd try it out. After the first episode the husband literally just kind of gave me an 'ick' vibe after first meeting him, but I really liked the friend. I don't know if that's the writing, premise or directorial magic, but Tae oh gives off serious male lead vibes

2

@greenfields I laughed way too hard on your 'marriage is dead' phrase (was it intentional?) but I do see potential ( I mean would you look at them pairing up for the revenge treat?)

I was almost thinking of resigning from the cult , but glad I didn't. Let's see where it goes.

P. S: I guess we can get rid of the 'forbidden' now, you know ;)

1

@emilyhewett - wrote this before I realized it was not just figuratively dead but would go on to - literally - be dead.

I mean, instead of talking to her, he went on a crazy revenge spree. What kind of man does that. I think clearly, we are ALL IN for the ship. Even if the marriage wasn't (literally) dead.

1

Agreed. He had some inferiority complex which made him assume the worse without even communicating with his wife. We can agree that he wasn't a very good husband, but he was certainly a good father, such a loss for Arin :(

1

Episode 5
Well, well!! Whatever I was expecting to come out of that "boss move" of the FL at the end of episode 4 was not this. Really was the husband always this cruel. It was so sad and frankly triggering to see him gaslight her so effortlessly. I had to actually stop watching when I saw her looking at the pesticide in the wardrobe and saying that she ... I know it was a dialogue but still, sigh. And why am I thinking that her psychiatrist is illusory. Just be well Jae-won, take care of yourself. Drama and all is okay, should I really be watching this ... it is very triggering for me.

Well I'm so glad I decided to pick it up again. 😊 I love Jang Nara and so here I am again. After barely managing to watch 10 mins of the episode on Saturday I decided to give it another try.

It is difficult to make out, as there do not seem to be any visual indicators (that I can make out) of the things Jae-won are real or imagined but gosh did I lol when she poisoned her husband with pesticide - or imagined it - rather vividly at that. The husband sure seems a creep. I don't know if he actually loves Yoon-jinor even his daughter - is she even his or is she Yoon Te-oh's daughter and why is he so insistent about having her custody. If anything Perfect Marriage Revenge has made us hone our speculation skills while drama watching.

The painter lady is pretty shameless herself but I have a sneaking suspicion that despite the husband's declarations of love in front of Jae-won, he's not as invested in the relationship, she even called him out for it.

Hmm, didn't get why husband was filming himself with the painter but thank you! I'm sure Jae-won will use it well. 👍

The meeting of Jae-won and Te-oh at her first presentation was so cute. TMI with strangers - sounds legit. He spoke about having depression too, but was it real or just to comfort her because there is a childhood connection isn't there - he seems to be having her school name tag with her original name.

I'm really confused about the step father now. Did she imagine him poisoning the mother last week or did he actually do it. 😳 He seems to have really supported her during her childhood.

Nam Tae-joo continues to be the cool silver fox. Beating up people effortlessly. What is his connection with the cheating painter's father? He had gone to meet his last week and now the evil Chaebol seems to have a hand in covering up the stalker's death. Also what is this evil Chaebol's deal of supporting FL over his own daughter. Hmm, too many threads.

I love love love Jang Nara (I doubt anyone else could carry off that white dress) and that power move bringing the cheating couple on their knees one literally one figuratively was so cool. 🥰 Aah! but it's only episode 5 so they'll get away with it (for now) isn't it. 🤣

Episode 6
This drama is really see-sawing with us. It is to Son Ho-jun's credit as an actor that I cried along with the cheating husband. He's so good with the daughter I'm almost convinced she's not his. 😛

Painter lady is such a creep. Why is she so obsessed with the daughter. First going to her school last episode as her to-be new mother and now dressing up like Jae-won to scare the poor kid. Did she tell her "I'm your mom".

Omo, omo, omo isn't Te-oh the cutest ever. ☺ Oh! what a sweety. And Jae-won's finally cottoned on and is teasing him. Hee. This is a relationship dynamic I like.

So the journalist already knows about Jae-won's previous life. Hmm.

What is it that has made the husband so bitter. Did he actually say he wants Jae-won to b in pain or did she imagine it.

Painter lady is shady huh, no surprises here I guess.

Uh oh! who's DNA Test is that and what does it say. 😳 We have no wait till next week for that! Oooh! what a ride.

One thing is really troubling me. They seem to be using FL's mental health as a method in storytelling. We don't know if it's real or aggravated because of iffy medication. I'm almost convinced her psychiatrist is K-drama pulling The Sixth Sense on us.
- Who is threatening the FL,
- Was the stalker really "real",
- Who pushed the colleague in hospital off the roof,
- Is the painter lady the real vllain.

Let's catch up next week.

I'm expecting some kinda twist ( a pretty huge one) in the storytelling, like you said -it might be all in her head or maybe her past holds a very grave secret. I don't know, but I'm more interested in this drama than another Saturday-Sunday one I have to admit.

I’m left a bit perplexed after ep 6. The vague but dark clouds where Jae Won asks“What did I do in the past?” and her father telling Sun Yeong that he can’t tell him anything about Jae Won just yet, plus Sun Yeong telling a confused Jae Won that he wants her to experience the pain of the hell he lives in, topped off with DNA paternity test results in a Manila envelope, phew! That’s a big load for viewers to carry. And I’ve only scratched the surface with unanswered twists and questions. Right?

Ep 7 :
So...the DNA test result wasn't a red herring AND she was unconscious during...., I mean how worse can it be?
Your spouse supposedly cheats on you, so what do u do? Cheat back & then play the victim. Amazing 👏

I have no words left for the friend ( or snake, which is more suitable) so let's stop here.

I have no idea what they are doing with the 'mental illness' plot but they'd most probably use it as a mean to get 'forgiveness' from the husband & help them get together again 🙂.

And last but not the least, the divorce doesn't seem to happen anytime soon ( RIP my ' Forbidden High Key ship' 😭 ) . Things are happening pretty fast, so I wonder with what they'd fill the remaining half of the show.

The twists and turns on this one are insane, but surprisingly fun. I also think it's quite well written. The story is told from Jae Won's perspective, but Jae Won isn't a reliable narrator - at all. She's unwell, she needs help - and she CAN do all this while being a girl boss (though she'd need to find a new investor, the shady Minister-to-be would likely abandon her), she's not willing to admit it and seek help.

I LOVE how they depicted her memory loss in episode 8. The only time the amnesia trope(?) is done well. She's sick. She's forgotten the last few days and the events that led to them. Just like how she must have forgotten the night she slept with another man (we all know it's Tae Oh). It's not that she was drunk and forgot. It's that she mixed alcohol and her medication, did stupid and uncomfortable things and her brain wiped her memory in order to protect her.

Not condoning Jae Won and her hubby's way of taking revenge was complete trash, but uff - the writing is good. Rarely have I seen such a completely unreliable narrator.

Okay, just reading Beanie interpretation that she was raped and that's a whole new line of thinking I didn't really consider. Somehow thought she would have been in her senses? But ugh - now no longer on the Tae Oh ship if THIS is what happened.

And if not, then I'm fully on the Tae Oh ship.

Also episode 7 not 8. Still waiting for Viki subs,

1

Required fields are marked *

I thought she was completely blacked out when she supposedly slept with another man? I ...don't think it's Tae Oh because Tae Oh wouldn't do something like that to an unconscious woman ( I mean I want them together, but not like this).
But it would be actually interesting if she really did those somewhat consciously but 'chose' to forget it which her brain gladly allowed.
Yup, she is SUCH a girl boss. But in this episode it was pathetic to see how she was guilt tripping herself to the point her brain chose to erase the memories, again.

2

Required fields are marked *

Agreed on all fronts! I made my comment before reading through Beanie’s thoughts and didn’t consider that it may have been rape / that wasn’t capable of consenting. Somehow, I thought that she may have entered the room while semi unconscious but was okay when she cheated. Kind of doesn’t make sense when I consider that it’s all the same night. You’re right if so.

Thoughts in no particular order:

In an early ep Jae Won referred to being bipolar. In ep 7 She reads up on if a child can inherit a parent's condition - and hints at her mother having mental illness.
Poor little Ah Rin, worried over her parents' issues.

Yoon Jin - will she now have to get rid of her father's former employee because he knows her too well?

Jae Won mixing prescription drugs and alcohol to that extent that she blacked out is dangerously irresponsible on so many levels. I can't trust her memory (or lack thereof) that she didn't willingly sleep with someone. But, it may have been rape-we don't know yet.

Ehat a crazy conversation Jae Won with her father about the time her mother used her as collateral for her gambling debt and he rescued her. Followed by a vague memory that she may have done something similar to Ah Rim and Soon yong rescues her?

Where is a good doctor/psychiatrist in all this? I mean all those bottles of pills ... things are getting scary when Jae Won can't keep track in any compartment of her life.

This really is a well-written story. Can't wait for ep8.

Seven years ago at her product launch, she didn’t willingly get plastered. She tried to resist but was pressured to drink by her former friend’s dad. That was deliberate as he must have known she was on medication and once she was on a roll, she became unable to stop until she became unaware of her surroundings. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the rapist.

+1 - I think you struck the nail on head. It's not _fun_ watching a woman feel afraid for her safety. On the other hand, it's almost triggering. Not at all sure how I feel about this show anymore - because now that fear is turning into things like rape, possible murder of her mom, women backstabbing women, emotionally abusive husbands, and more.

The women backstabbing women trope irks me so much. In dreamland, it's either giddy & cuddly friendships between women or all jealousy & backstabbing. Ep 8 the Kwons are dangerous, both Young Ik and his painter daughter Yoon Jin. It seems as if Young Ik has positioned his daughter to replace Jae Won at work and in marriage, no less. And he was in on setting Jae Won up to ruin her reputation by getting her drunk and then Yoon Jin’s ex boyfriend raped her. Te O has been busy helping soon Young piece together the details of that night when Devere debuted and Jae Won was raped. And Yoon Jin has also been found out as the one who almost killed Seung Guy, again with her father’s cover up. Young Ik really has it out for Jae Won, but is it personally or is it to get his daughter in a powerful position as Jae Won’s classmate who didn’t fare as well as she did?
I do question hiding Jae Won’s illness for 20 yrs from Soon Young calling It headache medicine and mood swings. Jae Won’s father helped her hide the illness that she has, just like her mother suffered from. It’s sad to isolate oneself with cover up and lies and not face the illness with honest treatment and support.
I love Jang Nara’s acting, she is expressive and completely believable in her self-protective amnesia with memory gaps and personality changes. I hope the title of the drama points to a real happy ending, but how?
I can’t ship Te O and Jae won because I want her and Soon Young to work through the pain and damage for themselves and for Ah rim.

The logical, more realistic side of myself agrees with you and says that working through the pain would be worth it IF I felt like Jang Na Ra and her cheating/gaslighting husband would be able to work towards a happy, healthy relationship with new boundaries set, forgiveness given and major refocusing on different priorities in life. If he just straight up says he's gonna keep cheating and they wreck each other, then I dunno. That's a hard one.

And then the part of me that's just enjoying the fireworks really loves the chemistry between her and Te-Oh and wishes they'd been cast as the leads in the first place or that if they don't end up together here (which I don't see happening realistically) that they get cast together in a different drama as romantic leads because DANG they have chemistry. Or maybe it's just him dripping "I'm interested and invested and will make sacrifices to help and protect you" out his ears.

This drama had a difficult topic from the beginning - FL's mother wanted to kill her by drowning her when she was a child. You can't do anything worse to a person than kill them. FL remembers this. Not only did someone want to kill her, but it was her mother, the person for whom her child should be the most important thing in the world. There is no greater tragedy and breaking of taboos than the murder of one's own child. But for me this drama is too soap opera. In fact, it's hard for me to take it seriously and experience it emotionally, because I feel like the script is playing with the audience and treats serious topics as entertainment. Mental illness is treated here on an equal footing with classic amnesia in dramas.

I see what Yoon Jin is trying to do here ( just dinner table talks, you know 🙄) but leave Tae Oh out of this (ok I admit, I love him a bit too much ) . Whatever feeling he might harbour is just a one sided thing ( or so I think, unless something from the past comes up again) so don't try to make everyone uncomfortable.

Episode 9, 10:

So they killed Sun Young out of NOWHERE? I thought it was a red herring & he was actually alive, but guess what? We got murder mystery on top of soap opera. Well, I'm not quite pissed, I'm just having fun following the crazy ride.

Also, I wonder what's with the psychiatrist friend? Was she her hallucination? What other conditions Jae on has? Don't tell me she has split personality, too ( aren't they overdoing it a bit with her mental issues? )

I thought I knew in what direction the show was going, but I have no idea anymore. Let's see show, how crazy can you get 👏

Interesting story but a big hole in it is how FL manages to lead a successful company.

Just watched episodes 9 and 10. Jang Na-ra is such a good actress. She is amazing showing vulnerability and strenght at the same time.

This drama/character seems written for her.

But how does she compartmentalise? These are horrendous roles full of extreme distress, sorrow and agitation. I hope she manages to have a healthy psyche despite her painful roles.

For sure. That’s a lovely wish.
I have stopped watching this as it has stressed me and I have enough of that in RL.

It's totally understandable that you dropped it.
The last two episodes have been a little hard to watch in some moments, but I'm hooked on this story and I want to watch how it ends.
The plot has more layers than an onion, and it seems it's only half peeled so far.

It's true that she seems to be quite type-cast 😅
Probably because she is very good at these roles.
I hope her real life is the opposite.

A memory loss drug and alcohol would make it such that even if you were told what happened you wouldn't be able to remember . There must be more to it.

Ep : 11, 12

First of all, I wish Jae On will get proper treatment after all these craziness subdue. The way she has been going all out with the mental state she has, is SUPER unhealthy ( ummm so who cares about health anyway , only revenge is real 🙂)

This week the show completely headed into the makjang territory & I'm loving Jae On's badass era so much ( Jang Nara be slaying out there).

After knowing her psychiatrist friend was actually her hallucination, I feel creeped out every time I see them together (almost horror vibes 🥶).

And yet another reason why you shouldn't take life lessons from soap operas: You have strangers breaking into your house several times ,so what do you do? Shut the windows & close the door ( only to find out there are several other pathways , oops) & NEVER take any other security measures ( police, who? )

Also do I see a flicker of hope in my ship? Ok, I should stop here.

I'm still loving the show even though it's hard to watch at times. Hope we are heading for an actual happy ending, our heroine deserves it more than anyone.

Episodes 11 and 12.
I miss Seo Ho Jun. Imo, the show is less interesting and more boring without him.
But Jang Na Ra is still great in this role.
I'm not shipping her with SML, even though he seems to be a nice guy who really cares for her.

I just finished 13 and 14 and I am with you as far as not shipping her withTae Ho, although he's over-the-top caring and involved in her life. Lot's of dark stuff going on, but Jang Nara is just such a great actor!

Although ...my heart kind of fluttered when Tae O threw back the curtains, rolled up his sleeves, and cleaned Jae Won's house. When she arrived, with a smile he asked her, "What do you think?"
Heart fluttery!

Finale :
( Keeping my thoughts short as I'm quite busy with tests rn)

The show had its flaws but damn, i loved the ending. The perfect portrayal of a happy ending - not rushed, not forced , they took their time to heal & go on with life. However, I find Yun Jin's death a bit too much poetic ( with the obvious truck of doom cameo 🤦‍♀️). Anyway, I'm really happy for Jae Won for overcoming the odreal & coming out as a winner.

PS: Where the squad at? Our ship actually sailed!!! I'm glad that they didn't push it further, but gave us enough hope for the future. Now I can sleep in peace 😊

Truck of Doom for the win, but Yoon Jin was let off easy. I struggled to finish this, but ToD raised a smile for me in the last episode ("Hello, ToD, my old friend...") The drama started as a kind of thriller and then went revenge and then ended up as a meditation on mental health and I stopped caring round about the time Soon Young died. Shame.
