- The first poster is out for JTBC’s new medical Doctor Slump, opening up the dusty yearbook to when Park Shin-hye (Sisyphus) and Park Hyung-shik’s (Our Blooming Youth) rivalry began (but we know the true origin story). With youthful zeal, the tagline reveals their teenage motto that there can’t be two number ones in school, just like there’s only one sun in the sky. Also starring Yoon Park (Delightfully Deceitful) and Gong Sung-ha (Daily Dose of Sunshine), the rom-com premieres on January 27. [News1]
- As we head into premiere week for Channel A’s romance Between Him and Her, the promos have been ramping up with another teaser, where Donghae (Oh! Young-shim) and Lee Seol’s (D.P. 2) relationship enters a very rocky season. Launching next week on December 26, the series is written and directed by Park Sang-min (Class of Lies), with PD Lee Yoo-yeon co-directing. [Sports Kyunghyang]
- A new teaser dropped for KBS’s Love Song for Illusion as well, revealing more about the dark fate that entwines our two leads: Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 1) and Hong Ye-ji (2037). The historical fantasy will be airing in the Monday-Tuesday slot, beginning its tale on January 2. [News]
- MBC’s Knight Flower delivered a fantastic poster yet again, slashing the beautiful floral backdrop in addition to our hearts. All will kneel before our moonlighting heroine Honey Lee (One the Woman), who is coming to the save Joseon’s people on January 12. The comedy-sageuk also stars Lee Jong-won (The Golden Spoon), Kim Sang-joong (The Banker), and Lee Ki-woo (Miraculous Brothers). [MBC]
- In the meantime, MBC has also been preparing for the suspense Wonderful World, with Kim Nam-joo (Misty), Cha Eun-woo (Good Day to Be a Dog), Kim Kang-woo (Artificial City), and Im Se-mi (The Worst of Evil) headlining the cast. Slated to broadcast in March 2024, production for the suspense-thriller is being led by PD Lee Seung-young (Tracer) and writer Kim Ji-eun (Lies of Lies). [MBC]
- The promos continue for TV Chosun’s My Happy Ending with a new batch of stills, showcasing our heroine Jang Nara (Family: The Unbreakable Bond) in a tense first meeting with Park Ho-san (Maestra). With PD Jo Soo-won (Today’s Webtoon, Thirty But Seventeen) at the helm and scripts by Baek Sun-hee, the psychological thriller releases later this month on December 30. [Sports Kyunghyang]

Okay, so DR SLUMP is giving me two things:
* confusion about the name (there is a manga of a very different storyline bearing the same name) 🤓
* Anne of Green Gables vibes because of the competing leads 👀 (We know how this is going to end!)
Can’t say I don’t like it, LOL!

Dr Slump wasn't about burn out doctors? Why they are focused on their teenager years? It doesn't suit Park Shin-Hye and Park Hyun-Shik anymore...

They have known each other since school, they competed with each other for first place in academic results and they did not like each other. Years later, the two meet as doctors when they both go through difficult times and fall in love.

Yep. For all his baby face, Hyungsik was legit FUNNY as a teen in HAPPINESS, and that was filmed nearly 3 years ago...
Refusal to hire age appropriate actors here feels like a statement from production team that the only selling point of the drama is its star cast (and perhaps some HEIRS meta while at it).

Nowadays I hardly see child actors for the main leads, even if they are there, they are o ly for some flashbacks . Few years back, child actors used to be in almost 3-4 episodes and they used to be very memorable. I remember watching "Missing you" with Yoon Eun Hye and there Kim so hyun and Yeo Jin goo were so good as the child counterparts that after they showed the grown up version I stopped watching the show because I simply couldn't warm up to the adult actors. I am still waiting for the reunion of these two where they have a happy ending cause that drama had such a tragic ending for them.

@midnight that happened quite often before as well, but kdramas kept adding young cast for years despite the fact... Probably more of a production cost thing, channels seem to be more stingy with budget for dramas nowadays. Or what I've mentioned above.
@kimjojo21 oh, YJG and KSH - and him and KYJ - are everyone's fave child actors pairings, this iconic "love triangle" goes way back to METS era and never got any proper closure to this day lol. What a shame, honestly, you'd think k-producers would be smarter than ignoring such a golden opportunity...

So Yoon Park is also here...Doctor Slump just successfully pulled me into it's slump.
4. One would think Lee Hanee's beauty smile is all friendly and charming and harmless until night comes and she knights their heads.

Class of Lies was a very good drama, but primarily a crime drama, there was no love story. I wonder how the scriptwriter wrote a story about romantic relationships in the new drama.

1. Definitely watching, no question.
2. Definitely not watching unless I hear after the fact that it was amazing and not as depressing as I’m anticipating.
4. Looks super fun, but we’ll see if I need a cooling off period after The Matchmakers.

Why is it called Dr. Slump? I immediately think of someone who can't sit up straight or someone who is in a slump, in which case I don't want him as my doctor.
I can also see why female doctors would fall in love with PHS, though not why he would fall in love with PSH - sorry. I've only found her tolerable in everything I've ever seen her in and just don't get why she lands these roles. Must have an agent worth his/her weight in gold. I am willing to be stunned into submission and publicly admit I was wrong about her capabilities but right now I wish it someone else.
