The Midnight Photo Studio is open for business

ENA has started up promos for their fantasy drama Midnight Photo Studio, starring Joo-won (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper) and Kwon Nara (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls). In the teaser that just released, we’re introduced to the mysterious studio that serves ghostly apparitions in the late hours of the night.

Joo-won plays Seo Ki-joo, the photographer and manager of the photo studio. He takes portraits of souls that decided to make a U-turn on their journey to the afterlife. By his side is plucky lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara), who fights for justice of the undead. Together, their studio gives the deceased the closure they need to get back on track to their next life, but this work is easier said than done when it comes to particularly vengeful ghosts.

Thankfully, it isn’t just the two of them keeping their unconventional business afloat. Assistant manager Go Dae-ri, played by Yoo In-soo (Daily Dose of Sunshine), and workplace errand boy Baek Nam-gu, played by Eum Moon-seok (Good Job), offer unrelenting service with a smile to the most disgruntled customers known to man. And they would definitely appreciate it if you left a 5-star Yelp review.

The teaser is a playful rib on the show’s Korean title, which translates directly into sexy photo studio. We open with some romantic jazz and lingering shots of our leads staring into each other’s eyes. The steamy tension builds as Ki-joo positions Bom in front of the camera and prepares to take her photo. But when Ki-joo presses the shutter and Bom transforms into a ghost, the truth is revealed. What makes this business risque isn’t some provocative inclination, but the scandalous nature of their late night customers.

And work could be described as anything but sexy. We see cuts of Ki-joo being chased, choked, and generally inconvenienced by rigors of his job. Still, that’s just a regular day at the Midnight Photo Studio, since the teaser wraps with the team opening the studio for business the next night, ready to do it all again.

Written by Kim Yi-rang (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency) and directed by Song Hyun-wook (The Golden Spoon), Midnight Photo Studio will premiere March 11 on Genie TV and ENA.

Is this going to be third consecutive ENA drama that I will relish? I loved Tell me that you love me and enjoyed Flowers in sands.

I am not sure talent behind the camera but star cast is not too shabby.
Keeping finger crossed for the hat-trick.

Me too. I'm halfway through Tell me that you love me and I love it. Really want to finish Flowers in the sand also. Can we hope for a third winner? I hope!

This looks really different so I am in! Although per recent exchange with @mmmmm re: seasonality... the release date is surprising to me. Feels more like a Fall release 😀

According to something I read, 야한 might also mean sexy in a positive way but also gawdy or taudry. The verb is 야하다.

Thanks for the synopsis @jenzy. This has been on my watchlist forever because of. . . . . this will come as no surprise to many of you. . . my favorite Yoo In Soo. Joo Won is simply icing on the cake.

Han Groo (Marriage Not Dating) was once mentioned in a special appearance role - I believe as Bom's older sister who was murdered. Hope she will appear.

I really hope this is on Netflix.

I already have no access to some of the dramas that Beanies were raving about last year because the streaming services I subscribe to don't have them and those that do are too expensive for my budget.

It’s giving me “Master’s Sun” feels— which I loved—with the comedy turned up a notch, but I don’t mind
