Kwak Si Yang: I spoke too soon about his latest drama being plausibly good (now its fighting to stay decent) and sadly it seems he’s playing yet another ‘grey’ character (or so the writer thinks) that’s actually an antagonist. Maybe there’ll be a character growth moment (if they go full villain mode it’s stupid but who knows) and he changes but having all lead characters being idealists for a drama on the idol industry seems tone-deaf when the show has had openers with actual failed idols. I’m not sure where the show intends to go with the romance (frankly there wasn’t a need for one but hey it’s a drama so we gotta shove one in) since the kiss seemed to be the scandal the female lead was aiming for but they had the other male lead watching on and I’m getting the usual love-triangle nonsense vibes.

He did get a new drama offer playing yet another lead-that’s-actually-a-sidekick character and frankly speaking it seems as though he’ll be relegated to minor-lead roles at best for his career, which is sad when you realise that he can only get billed as the first male lead if his costars are basically doing acting internships (I mean, no shade intended but the difference in acting experience is staggering and it kinda shows).

Here’s a clip of him doing variety (seems like he’s the replacement after one of the previous members found themselves in a scandal): he portrays himself to be rather chill in real life which is a contrast to his acting repertoire of the serious-guy archetype villain or not. I did watch the next episode where he starts interacting with the other semi-permanent members and it was cringe to say the least. But hey, Son Suk Gu is guesting in the following episode so that’s more motivation to watch the show.
