Strong Girl Nam-soon w4 top post (#1):
We are more than halfway through this drama now. And there is so much to clean up.
Our heroin is not very good at hiding, to be honest.

Si-oh’s secretary is really mad at her and tries to get at her, seemingly without Si-oh suspecting she does anything but show her how the coffee machine works.

***

***
She is very concerned about the frustrated, baffled Russian henchman, though, who didn’t catch her after the almost useless break-in. (They got a trace of Si-oh’s past, but they don’t know yet). So, these scenes are kinda sweet. I am warming up to some heartbreak in the comments, so I am taking some of the cute stuff up here. Please bear with me.

If you think that is kind of sweet, then hold my bear. Russian bear. 😉

PS: I tried to take some scenes without subtitles and found out that with subtitles off, they subtitle the White Bear here in Korean.
PPS: I get hooked up on making the gifs, and get so tired that I am not very funny in my text. If you are so inclined, you are very welcome to add mirth in the comments, it will be deeply appreciated.

Mama Geum-ju does her useless parody of being smart in the Rich Kid’s Club. (But really, it is a bit of a relief that for once, this self-righteous blabbering is shown as the idiocy it is – all K-dram heroes do it, but mostly it is just shown as “being heroic”).
Anyway, this moment happens between Nam-soon and Si-oh … is this love in his look, or is it him thinking that she talks like a daughter to a mother? I think it’s both, maybe.

While GJ is spending time being dumb in the meeting room, Hee-sik is doing slightly better outside in the club, making up excuses for fetching Mr. VIP’s polishing cloth.

Someone mentioned learning about what it’s like to be a mother as a reason to watch this drama, which made me scoff a bit, TBH. But this time, they really got hold of something. This scene actually moved me.

Teenage girl can be scalpel sharp when they start seeing their parents from a point outside the family. What is lacking here is of course that, having not come to terms with many mistakes of their own yet, they are self-righteously merciless and land their verbal punches with a strength that well compares to Nam-soon’s physical strength. Ouch.

Midst all her uselessness, kind Geum-ju is actually giving Hwaja hope and prompting her to later risk her life, lying to save Nam-soon. Hwaja lies a good deal more convincing than our strong heroins. The secret is to lie as close to the truth as possible.

What do you think of my idea that Hwaja is actually in Nam-soon’s family, and is strong but not very strong, since she has been brought up to do bad things? And how about the idea that Si-oh is really her brother?
He is bad, but … my heart breaks for that guy. Is he little Binbin or is he the boy who let himself get beaten to help a starving fellow?
And does he look hot now, as a grown-up?

    Everybody dies
Is this Hamlet or what? Grandma – while we snickled at her treatment of the gangster car, we have all had our misgivings at her ruthless behaviour towards her boyfriend, right? Grandma is a type the world knows to well – except usually they don’t have superpowers. Does her husband die here?

And our dear, neglected Nam-sin … is he dead? Please don’t be dead, Nam-sin!

    ***
Ehm … the women of this family heal quickly, don’t they? Mum is not really dead either, is she?

This was all ep. 9. So there will be some (but not as many) gifs for ep. 10, too.

OH no, I have written “Week 4” all the way through these comments. It’s 5, obviously. Episode 9 and 10.

    AHhhh I missed this one!
It ought to have been above the one with Hwaja lying. But here goes heartbreak for sure: Look at Si-oh’s beautiful, hurt, scary face.

If I have cut the heartbreak a bit short in the gif above, I have collected it here, so you and I can dwell on it. Looking, you can feel how it becomes hard to speak, when you realize that the innocent, straightforward forcefield of a girl that was opening up your heart (though it is still filled with fear and aggression) is most likely spying on you.

    .
Phew, nobody died. For today I have varied selection of gifs ranging from Si-oh being cute, to Si-oh being sad, to Si-oh being a little bit scary, and even going into territory of Nam-soon feeling that something terrible must have happened to child-Si-oh and Hee-sik feeling terribly jealous.
What I notice is that even if I for the first time actually perceived something other than stage directions between our main couple, the moments were you can feel a heart opening, or hesitating to dare being open – the moments where you see a face change to softness – they happen with Si-oh. If you want to go beyond banter and cuteness, it’s still only with our villain boy it happens.
Here is the first of those last six pictures to show that:

Yes, fun things happen with sweet Nam-soon’s face, but it is in the eye of the beholder … look at that sweet beholder!
And this discussion about light and shadow – it is really important to Si-oh.

Hee-sik has a hard time with this villain that even his colleagues agree is “handsome” and “alluring” …

… Even having to look him straight in his beautiful face all the d*mn time!
