HOLY SH*T I SPIT MY DRINK WATCHING THAT SCENE FROM CAPTIVATING THE KING EPISODE 4!

Omg I can’t remember the last time I was genuinely shocked at what happened in a drama. Yo I did not see that coming

For me it was recently, also on an episode 4. I didn’t think that it would happen so soon, though. Very, very pleasantly suprised! It touched all the right notes for me.

Saaame though. I started this drama thinking “ok, this is cute.. it’s like a what if spin off surrounding the prince that returned from the Qing in My Dearest”

And then Mong woo turned themselves I and was almost tortured by the guy who wanted to marry her (RIP all his hopes and dreams). And then our ML decided he would ascend the throne and I have no idea what’s going on from there.

I wish I had a better idea of what was going on in his head. He seemed so genuine whenever he portrayed his loyalty to his brother. But he also IS a rather crafty person imo, and I don’t want to disregard what the two wispy bearded men said “he was just testing the waters/our loyalty”. The only thing that gives me hope is the interaction we didn’t get to see: what did he ask the court lady for help with? Speaking of which, poor court lady. She just seems so terrified that one of these men in power is going to force himself on her.

And then the betrayal!!! Once we got to the end of episode 4, I had successfully reset my expectations. This isn’t just a cute she falls in love with the prince drama. This is a REVENNNGE drama in which she falls in love and knows she shouldn’t. I’m so here for it, too. Glad they’re staying on theme with the baduk scenes.

A roller coaster of emotions indeed!

It took me a while to finish as I was watching during my work breaks lol but omg it was crazy. I felt her pain when he said he doesn’t need friends now that he’s King.

I also want to know what’s going on in his head. He seemed really genuine to me too even when he slashed the bad guy but he became questionable after that. Like he’s planned all of this before. At least like a backup plan if it’s not his plan all along. I felt betrayed too when he just let Hee-soo be taken and punished. I was with Hee-soo there.

It was sad to see him look more like his brother after three years though. He’s lost amd lonely. Not like his confident and assured self from before.
