Queen of Divorce : ‘Not’ SML syndrome

Disclaimer: I probably am not making sense.

I won’t call it a second lead syndrome, but I am strangely fascinated by this dude here. Partially due to the fan fiction I am writing in my head.
The drama did a bad job writing him. There is so much potential. Even with this writing, this dude is bringing some delicious second lead angst to the show.
Did he have to be the murderer – nope.
Did he have to try and strangle his ex-wife – NOPE.

But, then you see him flipping and telling his staff to release her by morning, you can tell he loves her in his own convulated way.

This can’t be the face of the man who tried to kill his ex-wife a few hours back right? He literally lost his cool when he heard the fire truck and saw smoke. He rushed to the scene. Only to see this..

He could have been a messed up chaebol son with mommy issues… but, they made him a dumb murderer..

Did I hear his heart break???

p.s. It must be those tailored suits right?? Or was it the abs in Ep 1?

I agree with you Blue and feel his character has been ripped off. This would of been a great show if this character had been written well. He can clearly act, looks good but sadly his plot line is so repetitive and cliche the poor guy just keeps going in circles. I wish we would get some kind of back story of their (FL) relationship as I really can’t understand why they are together in the first place (before she found out she was pregnant) and how the ML was involved.
I feel like dropping this but love the ML, he is so heartwarming.

Ep 6 was the right time to show us the backstory. It seems like all three were from the same law school and he (chaebol) fell for our spunky FL. Their love triangle started in college. but yeah, we also need to know how she ended up with him. Why is the show denying us this??
Clearly, she did know him and gets him. And we see the tension every time they meet.

It’s just a poorly written show. I didn’t like the kiss either, as she was clearly doing it for a reason.

I didn’t like the kiss either, she was exploiting him in that moment and on top of that she knows he really likes her, he does so many little things for her, so to do that was cruel.

So … when are we getting to read that fan fiction. 😊
I think the problem is that the SML role is something that Kang Ki-young would ordinarily do and kill it … just like Oh Min Suk is doing right now. His acting is above the writing and is making him shine. I’m low-key antsy that he’s doing what KKY has been doing his entire career … be the best part of a drama. 😂

It would be nice to get a “story” but 🤷‍♀️

and also such a glorious dead fish expression kiss… Not a single cell was passionate about it, so the only possible explanation is she went it right after eating a bag of raw garlic and didn’t brush her teeth. (and frankly, I feel you, Ki-joon, but you can gift her a bunch of Colgate tubes arranged like a rose bouquet.)

Whatever cute chemistry the leads had died in that kiss 😠

Honestly, it put me off so bad that I can’t bring myself to watch it anymore. It was wrong on all counts, and on top of it, they both looked so uninterested and put off that it bottomline looked painful. Those closed eyes were no of passion, but of prayer – is it over yet?

Thankfully, the next episode showed that it was never designed to be a kiss, so I take back what I said. This was not a dead fish kiss, there was never a kiss in the first place. (Kim Sa-ra, this once, I forgive you)

I know what you mean. The ex-husband’s character has the most charisma in the whole show–even more than the adorably cute ML. However, he’s such a dangerously portrayed and written character–a charismatic narcissist. His love for FL seems based more on his power over her–whenever she is with him, he can dominate and abuse her and he “loves her” only when he can’t have her. We have yet to see a scene (unless it was in this week’s shows I haven’t watched because I dropped the show) where she is happy with him. The attractive narcissist’s appeal is strong, and here, the writers are playing with it a show that is neither a psychological exploration of that dynamic and how to break free (which I could have maybe watched) or a full-on comedy. What was awful was that every time the FL is with the ex, the dynamic always became him being sinister and controlling and her being small and belittled instead of the supposedly kickass person she became after she left him. The show does a very dangerous thing of romanticizing this abusive dynamic (but he loves her!). The drama casted this ex both very well and very poorly because of his charisma.

As the episodes progressed the show wasn’t sure what to do with his character.
Like you said they are not exploring this at all. Even after he tried to kill her she is like ‘ok fine. I won’t go to cops since there was no evidence. Because staying at crime scene when the fire truck and medical help came would have helped instead they flee’. And given how flat everyone else is, I am naturally enjoying his scenes more even though it’s messed up.
Thanks for clarifying this. The narcissist charisma.

I struggle with the overall logic of the show… This is ultimately poorly written altogether, everyone feels a little bit off all the time.
