I loved Doctor Slump!
It is such a lovely show with one warning: it’s out of bounds for people who are triggered by/ can’t tolerate drinking scenes. This one has the most drinking/drunk scenes in my

Agree way more drinking than medical for a medical drama 🤣. I think you have to willfully ignore the drinking for your own mental health but it’s totally worth it.

Yes, I mean it’s excessive there! But because I could turn a blind eye on that, I could enjoy the story. I completely understand if some will be put off by it, though.

My perspective kinda changed once I knew how much of a cultural thing drinking is in SK. Someone on reditt posted that a doctor (I don’t know how true, I haven’t seen it but it was on one of DS episode discussion boards) said that the doctors do not ask the patients to stop drinking, just ensure that there is enough gap between drinking and medication. Apparently it’s a well known ‘secret’.

      😮

But genuine question, don’t most of them become alcoholic (sorry if this triggers anyone)? The amount of drinking depicted in dramas is outrageous? Or their alcohol is less strong compared to those in other countries? Do you have any idea?

Or it’s just the drama thing not the real thing?

Funny enough, the culture is not to drink everyday. But when you drink you can’t stop at one. There is sort of a peer pressure too about drinking and how much you can hold. So it’s once a month sort of a thing (at least that’s what the articles say).
Liver problems are becoming the second most common disease in SK. However there is very little being done to change the culture. Apparently govt put up some kind of website warning the people how to be ‘careful’ while drinking (as opposed f that ever works). The only thing that they follow stringently is drinking and driving – which I realized the dramas never show. I’ve not seen a single scene where they are driving drunk (cue – cute piggy backing).
I asked my Korean ahjhumas at our local K restaurant last night about this. One of them said ibinge-drinking is quite common but the new generation is not that into it so it’s changing. I found that interesting.
