I need a fan, too! 🫦🔥
And Yes, how can I resist a man who looks at me like that picture in the middle? (Though he looks so serious as if he is acknowledging that we are going to the front together and probably won’t return. But so be it, then).
Whew! May I borrow your fan? It’s an unusually warm October day suddenly.
I watched Fated to Love You but I do not remember that Jang Hyuk having his trousers removed by a man 👀 Calvin Klein underwear scene. Clearly I need to have my eyes checked. What episode is that in?
I don’t remember that detail either. But he and that lady were set up with drugs first, so someone may have “helped” them along with the clothes too, unless it’s actually a woman’s hands.
It was probably overwritten in my memory by the subsequent 5,000 episodes of noble idiocy, plus there are so many “sexual assault played for laughs” scenes in kdramas that I have a hard time keeping track. I hope he got a Calvin Klein endorsement deal out of it, at least. (In real life I’ve avoided CK-branded products for decades out of lingering disgust with their pedophile-themed ads in the 90s.)
I appreciate nice abs – and the work that goes into maintaining them – as much as the next person, but a glimpse of muscular, well-shaped legs is a too-rare treat in dramas. I guess what I’m saying is I disapprove of everything in this picture except JH. I’m a hypocrite. 😂
In this scene JH was lovingly and carefully filmed.
Best to enjoy the treat and forget the rest coz it is a wild world!
Also, I vehemently agree with all the points you disagree with.
Even Jungkook can’t make me sway.
I thought that was probably what you meant. ONe thing is to think “Oh, that’s really not important” but I wouldn’t imagine you’d be all: “There simply isn’t enough fun sexual assaults in K-drama!” ๐
So of the pro et contra positions, I assumed you were contra.
This drugging an otp and locking them in a hotel room (by 2FL) is a standard trope in Chinese web novels.
Then the FL either has amnesia or dies (courtesy 2FL) and time slips to a previous time and determines to (1) regain her memories or not die (as applicable), and (2) beat the 2FL with her plot armor and / or prior knowledge of (now) future events (as applicable).
All this is 5-7 chapters in a 2000+ chapter novel.
Rest is lovey dovey times with the tsundere ML, happy times with their usually super genius child or children who bring the leads together with a side of kimchi slapping the 2FL.
While the entire story as such starts from the “drug n’ sex” combo it is treated as a mere plot point to bring the otp together as “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that one night stands result in everlasting love“.
Coming from that background I wasn’t per se against Fated to Love You premise from the outset but obviously in the drama this became a major plot point and hence strongly objectionable. I was unable to watch the drama though I love both Jang Hyuk and Jang Na-ra to bits. The otp neither felt destined /fated nor organic given the circumstances.
Somehow, I only see your explanation now, and I am really happy to be wiser and also troubled that this is just a common trope to be thrown left and right. I suppose it must be “having sex without being responsible for having it happen” that makes the trope popular, not “it’s totally okay to drug rape”, but still …
Well, apart from it being another way to confirm that “real women” don’t want to have sex, it only happens to them.
…
That aside (or at least left on a shelf for now), I really came back to look at these pictures, especially the black/white one, where he has wrinkles like and his beautiful mood is reflected in each of them. D*mn, he is beautiful.
A recent discussion of botox made me think about how few wrinkles he has in most films, when he is in his forties, (in Wok of Love, he will have been 41), and it’s not that I’m crazy about loose skin all over one’s face, but really, is the lines at his eyes and at his mouth only making my heart ache?
Isn’t the Jang Hyuk with lines in his face at least as attractive as the smooth-faced one?
But of course, always.
That is why I specially requested you to kindly tag me in all your posts.
I enjoy how beautifully you re-work / edit the gifs and your brilliant commentary is the cherry on top.

I don’t know what that path is, but Yes. Just have him look at me with those eyes and that somehow-it-looks-like-how-a-child-with-braces-does-but-anyway-is-grown-up-irresistible smile and I will tread that primrose path for sure. Of dalliance.
Thanks for the Shakespearean context and thinking about it. Jan Hyuk would make a great Shakespearean actor. (I wonder if he has ever tackled a Shakespearean role? I wouldnโt be surprised if he has.)
Probably my favorite JH drama (and often overlooked) is KBSโs A BEAUTIFUL MIND (2016) (Viki US) with FL Park So-dam). It was my first JH drama and he played the part of emotion-less Neurosurgeon Dr. Lee Young-oh perfectly. The 2 episode cut still irks.
And also, I once wrote an assignment on “the performative” in Hamlet, especially his monologue “Ay, so, God bโ wiโ ye. Now I am alone” herein three pages about the use of the word “villain” throughout the play.
SIgh. I miss being university nerdy.
Oh ho!! @CecilieDK I would absolutely love to read that.
I don’t miss university and my mother’s copy of the First Folio has a place of pride on my bedside book shelf. 😃
I can’t find it right now, it seems. Anyways, it was a first-year assignment, so for reading I would rather recommend a five-pages synopsis on “Trappings”, or some of the things I wrote about Dickens, that were pretty fun, I think. Like, in my thesis I used five pages to write about the first sentence in “Our Mutual Friend” because that sentence is so crazy that I burst out laughing when I first read it.
I you want any of that, tell me what part you’d like and give me an email adress here or on the slightly more private tag list document (I can erase it after I’ve seen it).
Jang Hyuk would make a great Hamlet, considering his supreme pining skills, though I would much rather see him as the ML in “Much ado about nothing” that ends well. Also, the main couple is supposed to be grown-ups, whereas Romeo and Juliet are almost or completely children.
Actually, a great Romeo would be Rowoon. And they could underline all the comic aspects of that play. Romeo is a bit like Shin-yu in the way he wallows in his own pining.
What … really!! Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite-ist play ever.
It is closely matched by The Rivals (1775) byย Richard Sheridan and guess what Cecilie – it has “errand boys” in it. 🤣 Also Mrs. Malaprop based on whom the word “malapropism” was coined.
Fwiw, Monday I returned to the States from a trip that included a tour of England and Scotland. I added some days back in London at the end.
On the tour we stopped in Stratford-Upon-Avon and visited WSโs childhood home.
Later back in London I visited the Charles Dickens Home/Museum on Doughty Street where he lived from 1837 to 1839 and wrote โOliver Twistโ.
Much like Kenneth Branagh I think Jang Hyuk too would make a good Benedict and a great Hamlet but I really, truly think he would be 💜 mesmerizing and unforgettable 💜 as King Lear.
But imagine how cool a 12th Night version with Korean heart-throbs (or maybe just one person who plays both) as Cesario and Viola, but with either a European or otherwise maybe a Thai director.
It could be the same person playing both twins – you know all the roles were played by men and boys, originally.

Otherwise, are there a girl and a boy who look like each other a bit?
For me, King Lear is more like Kim Won-hae. Or maybe … It’s just that I don’t like King Lear, but when played well, he is a tragi-comic has-been. Who has probably tyrannised his daughters earlier, so it is kind of a revenge massacre tragi-comedy.
But I guess you’re right, Jang-hyuk could play all that, even if it would be hard for the audience to concentrate on the “has-been” aspect.
