British state of mind today, I guess. When I was in high school (40 this month 😳) I fell so hard for this album and the Gallagher brothers, lol. I still love it.
I remember hearing this for the first time – I must’ve been in 7th grade? It was a few years after it came out, but I listened to it nonstop for years. Still put it on occasionally, but it’s dropped off my go-to list. The Gallagher brothers are an endless source of amusement for me — their feuding is so hilariously childish that I wonder if they’re actually aware how petty they are. I do like Noel’s new stuff, though.
It’s a great album so is Definitely Maybe.
They make me laugh intentionally and unintentionally, especially Noel. He can come up with some great one liners.
I dont know if you ever listen to Desert Island Disc but he was a good guest and Kristy Young is a good interviewer. He touches on the fall out a bit. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b062hplj
I love Definitely Maybe. I think Noel has a slightly better idea of how bonkers they are but they both still allow the other to get under their skin, and I think that’s what makes it so funny. Giving the interview a listen now.
Also, apropos to nothing, if you’re a reader and you like oral histories and fiction I highly recommend Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones & the Six which is an oral history of a fictional band and I couldn’t put it down.
I haven’t read anything by this author, but know she is well liked. I’ll have to check it out. I like an oral history so a fictional account could be fun.
This was the first book by her I’d read too, but I plan on checking out the rest of her stuff now. I have The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo next on my list.
Oh dear Beverly, I’ve been listening Beastie Boys for days because of your last post. I think I’m gonna listen to 90s britpop for the next few days.
Oasis is my youth!
I have the tape/cassete for this album. CD was too expensive for a middle school student in Jakarta in 1990s. I recall I was on diet (meaning I didn’t buy lunch) for a week to buy their cassettes. I still have them but I no longer have the player.
That made me smile. I love how music travels the world and can touch us all. That at one point we were all singing along with these Manchester boys…..over 20 years ago.
