Maybe it looked better on paper and the actors themselves were privy to the characters motivations- who, what, why and when so it makes sense to them. However as a viewer there feels like a big disconnect. As much as they spent big to make the show look pretty, at the end of the day there is only so much an actor can do to fix the problems of the script, the foundation of any show.
We should have this as a tag line every time we are disappointed by a drama and question the actor’s choice. They will be known as mortgage payment dramas.
One of my favorite quotes is by Michael Caine about the Jaws sequel he starred in. “I have never seen it but by all accounts it is terrible,” he wrote in a memoir. “However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.” Zing!
Every time! At the end of the day as long as they know they did their best with their parts they can walk away guilt free. They learn who to avoid working with writer and PD wise through these processes. It’s when they are just going through the motions they owe it to their fans who sit through the show just for them but then feel doubly disappointed if they feel their bias let them down too.
You’re right of course. Out of the 100 scripts he received after The Red Sleeve, Junho chose King, the Land by Netflix. So guess that speaks for itself. 🤷♀️
Honestly it’s possible King the land didn’t look bad on the script but translated poorly on screen. It had a lot going for it but in the he end they chose to focus on the fluff. I’m sure Scipt changes are nothing new in dranaland.
Red Sleeve too could have gone wrong in wrong hands. As it is, episode 17 was a disaster.
Same with My Dearest. The up and down graph might have looked fab on paper but it was a snooze fest for long stretches of time.
Your comment scared me and I ran to mdl to check what is Namkoong Min doing next. 😂 Apparently its Doctor Prisoner 2. Ugh okay then.
@indyfan Although we have been somewhat desensitized by the Korean T-humor this was another level of cringe. Really what was erm romantic or fluff about that. 😳

Impossible to believe it cost 20 billion won. It would be interesting to know how much was spent on the development of the script and the writers.

He’s a young guy and needs to put food on the table. Also a hefty paycheck weighs more than a lightweight script

I remember an actor from my country was asked the same question: Why did you follow your previous hit with this dud? His answer was: I need to eat.

I doubt he’s lacking for choice when it comes to scripts. But Disney probably does pay a lot more.
