Status of Coffee Prince, Yoon Eun Hye’s health

I’m not in the habit of reporting news, but there seems to be a lot of interest and confusion in what’s going on with the end of Coffee Prince.

A few days ago (the articles I’ve seen are dated August 8; keep in mind Korea’s more than a half-day ahead of the States), the media was reporting that Coffee Prince was extended two episodes — but the story would end on the 17th episode, with the 18th reserved for a “special broadcast,” presumably a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the series, NGs, etc.

In the first of the following articles, dated August 9, it was clarified that Yoon Eun Hye has not yet confirmed participation in the extended episodes.

On the same day, dated a few hours later, the second article explains that Yoon Eun Hye is experiencing severe headaches that are sending her to the hospital in her off-camera hours.

On the 9th, someone close to her said that Yoon Eun Hye had been frequently experiencing very severe headaches. According to the source, she hasn’t complained while filming, but she’s had the headaches often and her general condition isn’t good.

Her fatigue has been growing to the extent that she went to the hospital to receive a medical examination. It isn’t so severe that she cannot film, but it’s plain to see that she’s having a very difficult time on set. If her condition continues to worsen, it’s unclear if the extension of the series will be able to proceed. They will finalize plans of whether to extend the series after she has received approval from a doctor that she is fine.

(Just note that these reports are now about a day old; I’m sure there will be periodic updates, so don’t freak out!)

Oh no! I hope she's okay. Didn't she already experienced something similiar when she couldn't participate in Que Sera Sera? Hope she'll get well soon.

There's speculation that this is related to her ongoing legal issues with her management company. It's no secret that they've been very reluctant to release their biggest star, and have been very aggressively refusing to release her from her contract. (If I remember correctly -- and don't quote me on this -- I think the consensus is that they've been mismanaging their clients. Kim Jung Hoon is also reportedly attempting to be released from his contract, to similar resistance.) The status of her contract issue is yet unresolved.

Hi javabeans! Thanks for sharing this bit of news. I hope that it isn't serious. I'm sure that filming Coffee Prince is really taxing, Eun Hye has really outdone herself in this series and she comes out very strong as Eun Chan and I really thank her for giving us a character that we have grown to love from Day 1. I hope that she will get better soon and that this won't affect the conclusion of the series. CP is a not a Drama that we will forget as soon as the last episode is aired. I'm sure that it will stay for a long time in our treasure chest of favorites-- it has almost taken on an eternal glow for me ---LOL. It's just so special--- just the right coffee blend! Thanks again!--- the seeming silence after Episode 12--no previews, no English translations yet--is almost apt. Something as beautiful as that is likely to leave most mortals speechless and dazed--- but thank you so much for the summary and your thoughts! Please continue your good work-- reading your posts-- helps me keep sane for the rest of the day! Kudos!

I am very dissipointed in Eight Peeks, ive heard of how they turned their backs on Yoon Eun Hye for Que Sera Sera and about her health issues after that, and now they are not wanting to let her go, but they have to when her contract ends...i am sad to see all of these legal problems are effecting Yoon Eun Hyes health, the production company needs to see that...i hope Yoon Eun Hye feels better soon and the problems are resolved soon!!

Oh dear that's really very worrying. I hear they might be postponing the drama for 2 weeks, and I'd really rather they do that if it helps rather than push on with CP... Sucks when bureaucracy gets in the way of thing :( I hope she gets better soon, meanwhile I might learn some self-control too

Javabeans - yep I like it makes your comments easier to find ;)

Of course we're freaking out @_@ I didn't know about YEH having major health problems until after reading your news summary (then I went over to soompi and found out that YEH also has thyroid & pernicious anemia too... -_-)

Eight peaks sucks, I can't believe they're valuing money more than someone's life. And I hope CP won't push YEH to finish the remaining episodes until she gets better... Thanks for the news *_^

the stress and ongoing legal battle that YEH has with 8 Peaks isn't helping her health. YEH has a severe case of pernicious anemia so I'm pretty sure that what 8 Peaks are doing to her is putting a toll on her mind and body.
She also hasn't been paid for her work in Coffee Prince yet, because MBC didn't know who to make the checks out to because of the legalities. Even her endorsement deals are being affected and rumour has it that she has been paying her manager from her own pocket, eventhough the manager denied it.
8 Peaks refuse to let her go because she is making them so much money. I mean there must be something seriously wrong with the company because Kim Jeon Hoon also want to terminate his contract.

Yoon Eun Hye - If 8 Peaks does not cancel the contract, I will not hesitate to sue... The 2nd certification of contents to 8 Peaks

YEH who's gained enormous popularity through "Coffee Prince" has filed the 2nd certification of contents (COC) to cancel her contractual agreement with her management company, 8 Peaks.
When asked to reveal the information behind the 2nd COC, YEH's side advised, if 8 Peaks refuses to cancel the contract then we will not hesitate to take it further with a lawsuit, suing them for this refusal.

The contents of the 1st COC stated that in January 2007, YEH was confirmed to be starring in the MBC drama "Que Sera Sera" and had even participated and completed the script reading/practising for the upcoming drama shoot. However, 8 Peaks had cancelled YEH's involvement in QSS in order for YEH to star in 8 Peaks' self produced drama.
Consequently, after the cancellation of YEH's QSS involvement, YEH took a 2 day vacation to Kangwon-Do in March. 8 Peaks claimed that they had no knowledge of this so-called incident and spread the news of YEH's irresponsibility online. Hence, promoting a bad image of YEH.

In regards to the above, 8 Peaks has announced that it is "far from the truth".

YEH's manager, Park Geun-Soo has informed us that "the 2nd COC includes evidence to support the disagreeable actions made by 8 peaks. These actions include the inproper
handling and distribution/division of earnings and proceeds as well as the unilateral (one-sided) manner of making and carrying out decisions which have caused immense problems. There are plenty more which we will argue through one by one. Both sides are now at the stage of irrefutable differences, and we both know it will be difficult to settle the separation without the courts."

Park Geun-Soo also added that "YEH still hasnt confirmed the casting contract with Coffe Prince's distribution company MBC, however very soon the contract will be confirmed and complete, with both parties agreeing to 20 million won (approx USD$20,000) per episode.

In response to rumours circulating that Park Geun-Soo is receiving his pay from YEH's own pockets, Park revealed that "this rumour is not true and we havent even looked into YEH's next project. I dont even know how this rumour came about."
Park also frustrated the fact that there are quite a few rumours circulating around due to the strong tensions between YEH and 8 Peaks.

Further to this, In response to the 2nd COC, 8 Peaks has advised that "due to a recent change in business administrator, we have yet to come to understand some issues which were risen in the past. If we had known these issues, this matter wouldnt have gone this far. We will read through the 2nd COC and announce our company's stand point in this matter."

regarding the legal battle, presently, according to a personnel of the legal profession, under such circumstances, the advertising agreement can be signed under YEH's name, however if the company wants to take legal action against the termination of the contract, the sharing of advertisement earnings with the company will be decided by the court. If the court finds that YEH's termination of the contract is legal, all the advertisement earnings will go to YEH, otherwise, the company will gain a portion of the advertisement earnings.

Love the drama and Yeh's health should be first and foremost. I'd rather wait for her to get better 2 weeks, 2 months, whatever the case may be. What I don't want to see is an unfinished drama or a substitute Go-Chan. Fighting, aja, aja!

oon Eun Hye "I'm deeply moved to be loved even when I'm not beautiful"

source: star@mtstarnews.com

credit for eng. translation: smr05 of soompi

I met up with YEH on the 31st of July, at the set of her drama "Coffee Prince".
The first thing I heard from the set was YEH shouting out "hey! we've finished early today! Lets go eat!!"
Through this drama YEH has become South Korea's token tomboy, and it was evident even outside the set that she was still in the character of EunChan, as she was walking like her character with confident strides to greet me.

Reporter: How do you feel about being praised for your acting by the producers and viewers, with comments such as "the level of acting has improved", "YEH has become a smart/sharp actress".

YEH: Oh my... im just thankful that they are watching me favourably. Honestly, its not like this drama is making me out to be beautiful. But thankfully, people are finding "eunchan" adorable, and in turn im receiving the love being reflected off this adorable character.

Reporter: How did you feel when you were presented with the role of "eunchan", of which you had to play a girl disguised as a guy?

YEH: It would be true in saying i did feel a bit burdened by this role. But in so saying, ive been able to present "eunchan" well, with much help and encouragement from the director and my fellow actors (smiles)
You know, before we got into the official shooting of this drama, the staff members and I did a lot of research in terms of how guys act and talk even to the minute details. But ofcourse we didnt forget the fact that both "eunchan" and I are female. And of course the viewers also know that both "eunchan" and I are females, so I really tried hard to combine both the manliness and feminineness into the character of "eunchan". And it seems the fans are viewing it in a favorable way.

YEH made her debut as a singer when she joined the then-famous girl group Baby VOX in 1999 when she was only in middle school.
And only 2 years after making her appearance in drama's she has already made a name for herself as an actress.
YEH has now been recognised for her ability to thoroughly analyze and breakdown her characters and for this has been included in the list of well sought after actresses.

Reporter: This drama has been televised up to episode 10, so far which scene has been the most memorable to you? are you able to pick out a favourite scene?

YEH: Even with the number of episodes that have so far been televised, viewers have said that there have been many memorable scenes. But ill tell you now, there will be many many even more memorable scenes coming up, and from episode 11 and onwards, there will be many sad scenes.

Reporter: Ending remarks

YEH: Once again, i want to thank the viewers for tuning in to "Coffee Prince" despite it being the holiday period. And it would be grateful if you would please continue to love both "Eunchan" and I.

When I asked for a picture, it was again evident that YEH was still in her character. Just before this interview, YEH had finished shooting a scene where she was crying, so her eyes were red and puffy and her face was without any makeup. When I asked for a picture at first she thought "how can i looking like this", but after briefly contemplating, with a big "eunchan-like" smile she asked that we "take her picture well" and striked an "eunchan-like" pose.

i read something about this yesterday as well i just don't remember exactly which forum was it but they mentioned about her being sick since she was a kid and having "pernicious anemia"... i even checked what it was and it's a bit alarming though they said that it used to be deadly in the early days but not in the present time anymore.... and that it says in that article that she's receiving a daily injection for that... i really hope it's not that worse.... well, let's just pray that she gets better!
