Ji Chang-wook cast as villain in Five Fingers

Joo Ji-hoon and Ji Chang-wook in one drama? Will the world implode from so much pretty? Ji Chang-wook, star of Bachelor’s Vegetable Store and Warrior Baek Dong-soo, has been cast in his first villain role to date, in the upcoming makjang-fest melodrama Five Fingers, starring Joo Ji-hoon. It actually seems like both are cast against type, which is all the more intriguing.

The 50-episode melodrama from the writer behind A Wife’s Temptation and Temptation of Angels is about a pair of brothers, both with the dream to play the piano. (Hence the fingery title.) Joo Ji-hoon plays the older brother, Yoo Ji-sang, who always had a natural gift for music. But little brother Yoo In-ha (Ji Chang-wook) is the opposite — all effort, no raw talent like his hyung. Little Bro’s passion for playing piano runs deep, but he grows up with a massive inferiority complex because he can never measure up.

Both are heirs to a huge corporation that makes instruments (of course) and Little Bro works for the family company. And then, in some freak accident, he suffers a horrible injury to his left hand and slowly starts to lose his grip on sanity and reason.

Well… I SAID it was makjang. I mean, if you wanna get REALLY crazy, he could get his hand replaced with a demon hand. Ooh, the hand of a genius pianist to compete with Big Bro, right? And then the demon hand makes him do its demony bidding! See, there are still options on the crazy scale. Admittedly, I’m not the audience this show is playing to, but I can see it being an over-the-top kind of fun.

Five Fingers follows A Gentleman’s Dignity and premieres in August on SBS.

I really like Ji Chang-wook but didn't like any of his projects. Warrior Baek Dong Soo was a lot of lost potential. Looks like this will be a miss for me too. Well, he's still young enough to eventually pop up in something worth watching.

Cherkell, where are you?

I feel the same way. Every time I see that adorable smile on this face, I just want to hug him! But I don't have the stomach for most of his dramas. I tried to like Vegetable Store and WBDS, but they just went crazy on me.

@Will work for soju.

Love your name.

Like birdscout I thought he was really sweet in SoSP.

I don't know whether to pay tribute to him or his stylist in making me question whether it was him again in WBDS. I guess it's both.

I liked SoSP but I didn't really get into Vege Store or WBDS.

I don't think this is my cup of tea either but I wish him and the drama all the best.

I've seen him act as a gangster in the T-ara MV and I felt that he was overacting as the bad guy....not menacing at all. Just idiotic.. . I hope he acts better.....here...lol

It's already on a few sites' radars, mostly for requests from Joo Ji Hoon's followers. I'm sure DramaFever will pick it up as well, given that they've always carried the Saturday/Sunday night offerings.

But let's see who actually steps up to the plate. If push comes to shove, I will personally visit every fansubbing group with a case or two of health drinks and get down on my knees to beg and plead... :P

I heard the rumors as soon as BVS ended and they were further complicated by My Precious's picture tweet in mid-May of his hands all bruised and beat up, saying that since he was taking time off to rest and relax, he had resumed practicing the piano (he hadn't played much for the past three years because of his drama and movie work). So we'll have two true musicians as the lead guys... and Eunjung from T-ara as the lead female. Aw crap. ::gritting teeth and watching it for the boys anyway::

The Soompi Forum is already up and going. Sleep is overrated anyway, ne? ;)

P.S. But if this show ever happens to go horribly, horribly wrong, can't you see this show turning into MST3K fodder a la "The Crawling Hand"? Tagline: "It Went Out On A LIMB For Revenge!!!" :P

awww, Wookie Bear is the bad guy? I might have to watch a few episodes of this just to wrap my head around it...I wonder what the likelihood of subs will be. Probably greater than the likelihood of QUICK subs, anyway... I get it. It's a huge commitment, 50 episodes. Why can't I just go to sleep and then wake up speaking Korean? Why????

Cher, I know you're so happy right now! 50 eps of Your Precious!

If My Beloved was going to be in something for 50 eps, I would do the subs myself, translating word by word with the aid of a dictionary and prayer.

Or I could make up subs. (That might be fun.)

I just knew you would be here, cherkell ROFL. "Five Fingers" and "a horrible injury": hm, he must have decided to make meat patties for a party, got his fingers (guess how many?) stuck in the meat blender, and come up with the ultimate FINGER food. Bleah. I just can't see him as a mad villain, I'm sorry to say. He's too cute to be a villain.

It will be interesting to see him in a villain role (always love a good bad guy). Not sure if I can handle 50+ eps, but I did catch him in smile donghae. Although, honestly, I watched mostly because of oh ji eun.

I adore watching that sweet face of his - killer smile!
As for Wookie playing a 'baddie', we got a fair taste of it in the T'ara 2-part MV he did with Eunjung and Ji eung. He really was kinda creepy in that, so can see him doing this role.

Ji Chan Wook is amazing at playing the earnest, hardworking, and kind character type, as shown in Smile Donghae and Bachelors' Veggie Store. But DAMN, he also makes one smoking hot villain!! He was terrifyingly convincing as a baddie in T-ara's MV. I can't wait to see his transformation in Five Fingers. I find it really interesting that his face can look either goodnatured or slightly sinister and malicious, depending on how you look at it~~

Anywho, I LOVE actors that can play both good and evil character roles~~

OMG! I can't believe this! I always wanted to see him as a bad guy. He was just amazing in the few shots of the T-ara video and that short film (forgot the name) that i literally prayed that his next role would be a bad-guy type role.

It sounds so interesting. Oh please!!!! let this one be gooooooodddd.

Ah, would you be talking about "Confession?" For someone who doesn't smoke, drink or swear in real life, that was quite an out-of-character evil turn for him (especially as he filmed that at the same time he started in on "Smile Donghae"). I'm not going to link to it here, but there's a link on my Tumblr if anyone wants to take a look. Warning: NSFW!!! :)

Yeah, shallow but at least I am honest.

Understanding the drama might actually make me hurl something at the screen. On mute, except for the shower scenes. Yup, that would work :-)

Hmm... JJH Post-Army Abs versus JCW Steely Warrior Abs. Right now I'll call it a tie. :D

Oh girlfriend, you KNOW there's going to be a dueling pianos scene or two in there. Put a halo of light behind each of these boys, and I'll never leave my computer ever again...

1

I say both shirtless, one playing the piano in a field of veggies, the other showering atop the piano, AND singing lustily at the top of his voice. The piano's waterproof.

1

I love how somehow all Ji Chang-wook posts end up containing an obscene amount of vegetable oil and suggestive vegetables.

1

Of course -- I would be highly disappointed if they didn't. I'm so happy my fellow Sisters-in-Lust are chiming in as well. REPRESENT!! :D

1

@ will work for soju. I know! I love it too. But I wonder what he'd think if he read it.

"ok, beanies! I'm not ALL about the glistening vegetables and nutritious oil. I have other assets as well, like swords and bows/arrows - have you guys seen how cool I was in WBDS? And there's the T-ara video where I had a gun! How can you girls just completely ignore all that and focus on a celery stick?"

1

Wasn't just a celery stick. There was dip involved too. Lots and lots and gallons of dip... :)

And who says he *doesn't* read the overseas blogs, hm? ::whistling::

1

Celery stick? I coulda sworn it was a cucumber he was holding. No, wait. That was me with the cucumber. Never mind.......
:)

1

* rofl * at the comments :-)

But for your info, it is autumn soon and there are rain showers right? Can't they play a piano in the rain? Like in an outdoor concert. But their shirts becomes soaked :-)

I want to see this. I like music-centric things....I WISH it was a demon hand. Or a "red" hand kind of like the ballerina's red shoes so that it is in fact the thing that he wants most that leads to despair! Buuuut....yeah. And wow, 50 episodes.

I did a 95 episode makjang once, so figure I can take on the world. >__< !!!! *flames of determination*

Jomo darling - when hot guys play the piano they play with just one hand. One hand on the keys, the other free to - well - idk, flip thier hair, or rub thier lips or well... just free cause they are too hot to spend the extra energy needed to use both hands.

While JCW and Lee Mi ho don't exactly look like each other, they do have a similar "look"; but I'd say that JCW actually has the better facial features.

If JCW gets the right project (you know, the fluffy drama that appeals to the tweener set), JCW could be as big as LMH.

Haven't seen LMH in anything so can't compare the 2 w/ regard to their acting skills.

At first I thought, "Him, as the bad guy? Really? I don't think I can buy it." Then you talked about his character losing his mind, and I perked up. I've seen just enough of him acting all crazy (usually with worry, but still) to think this might be worth watching. If I can survive the rest. Maybe I need to watch it with a stiff drink and some pork rinds.
