More episodes of Dr. Jin? I’d ask if those producers are high, but if you’ve seen the show, I think you’ll already know.
I particularly wonder at the reasoning because Dr. Jin isn’t pulling super ratings. The fusion-historical-medical-unintentionally-hilarious weekend drama has okay numbers (its most recent episode pulled a 13.2% rating), but those on their own aren’t high enough to merit extension talk. Especially with its direct competitor, A Gentleman’s Dignity, claiming the higher ratings (it broke 20%) and the buzz.
Also, have you SEEN the show? It’s insane. I mean that in as literal a way you can about a drama; there’s brain damage up in that hizzy, or at least I’m thinking there has to be with such a random hodgepodge of genres, stories, and unbalanced tones.
Still, MBC wants two more episodes, and now they’re in the “actor negotiation” phase. The proceedings are reportedly looking promising if you’re going by media reports, though there are rumors that some of the cast members aren’t thusly inclined. One unnamed actor’s management went as far as to say an extension was “impossible,” although it appears the producers and broadcasters really want to get the extra hours.
Story-wise, we’re dealing with rather self-contained episodes and mini-arcs because of the disease-of-the-day format of the show, so I’m thinking it wouldn’t be too much of a trial to whip up a few more conflicts. Er, I mean conflicts that are on par with the show as is, not on par with, you know, a drama that’s actually decently executed.
So, I’m sure the writers can rustle up a few more royals with brain injuries or epidemics sweeping the nation. Dr. Jin has already cobbled together primitive versions of modern medical gear like stethoscopes; maybe he can use the extra week to invent something more complicated. Like a crude pacemaker, or MRI technology. Hey, he’s a resourceful genius; he can make it work. Just don’t ask him to multitask his medical job alongside the romancin’, because we all know which one wins out in that scenario. Hippocratic oath be damned. (“Look, I’ll get back to your brain surgery inaminnit, okay? I’ve just got to finish flirting with my twice-in-a-lifetime honey. Your open head wound will hold.”)
So far the extension is unfinalized and the drama is still slated for its original 20 episodes, of which 14 have aired. The drama to follow is May Queen, the shipping-industry-set series starring Han Ji-hye, Jae Hee, and Kim Jae-won.

S’okay, I was about to go one further and say the podcast was the only entertaining factor but then I realise I haven’t read the recaps and thusly have no idea how much sarcasm and (much-needed) wit was thrown in. Basically, I was confused and exasperated after the first three episodes.

Agree. HeadsNo2 is a divine writer, talented and witty, but there is no chance for anyone in this world to make me want to see SSH, PMY or KJJ on my screen. (But I miss LBS. I hope he’ll return with better co-actors and as the main lead).

i’m loving this drama now. it’s freaky, funny and so left-field that i am curious what the writers will do next. that’s good writing to keep the audience wanting.
I think LBS is better suited as the slightly off-kilter secondary lead (gives him more freedom and range).
Pretty much all the supporting actors are good; too bad the 3 of the 4 leads are about as entertaining as watching water come to a boil.
I think I gave up any thoughts of actually watching the moment I read “fetus in a jar.” Since then I’ve only been reading the recaps, which is more than enough. HeadsNo2 should get a medal for sticking with this show.

1) Yep. Side comments like these make the recaps far more enjoyable than the actually episodes. Because every single damn time something utterly and completely ridiculous happens, I rant. And rant. And rant. And the worst part? I have no one to rant it to. So yay for recaps.
2) Anddddd the writers/producers are high on crack. Really. In previous episodes I was already like, “Man, Jun Hyun Jin&Han Ji Hoon, what are you two guys smoking?”
3) BUT. The very title of this post. Made me go like. “KANGDONNIM! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SMOKING.”

it’s actually one of the most hilarious dramas i’ve ever witnessed with each epis outdoing the outlandish from the previous epis.

NOOO! Please no!! I have no idea where this story is going and I don’t think the writers do either. What they have is more than plenty and maybe reduce by a few episodes if the production team don’t suffer monetarily.
idk about you, but the story is definately starting to slowly move somewhere rather than seeing an episode of only OMG A DISEASE STRUCK, DUN WRY GAIZ JIN WILL SAVE THE DAY thing from Episode 2-10.
Cause those episodes were forgive my language but boring as S. If they put more emphasis on the whole changing history aspect, maybe it would of been more damned.
Now the storys kinda moving into about who HYR is. And after CH opened up about “somehow without the telletubby” warping to the future, we get to think about HYH and his fall off the cliff, instead of another 1 hr of, look guys I made another medical tool for you guys to cure people in this era, and omg let’s use these new tools right away to save someone that “miraculously needed that exact tool to be saved* show.
I’m not fond of the exntension, but if it can show some storyline outside of JH saving the people instead of 2 more hrs of surgery performed by JH, it’s ok to a point.

I actually like this drama better than Big.I switched to Dr Jin when the main actor in Big came back from the States-me hoping the bodies had switched back,said,”uh oh”.I was done.The whole body swap thing between secret garden,I love taeri and all those swap soul dramas is a no no for me so I got to love Dr Jin.I must say,it is not my typical k-drama but I’m desperate cz I don’t like Gaksital or I do, I do that much.hehe

I watched about fifty episodes of Invincible Youth and learned enough about Korean agriculture to be sure that they aren’t toking anything local. This has gotta be some medicinal herb the ‘City Hunter’ team innocently brought up from Malaya.
Or maybe they were exposed to some radiations from Japan.

it was the producers, that mean it from MBC, i think it because MBC dont have high rating drama in their belt after light and shadow finished, they lose to SBS and KBS2 in all time slot,
monday tuesday plot – golden time last place,
wednesday tuesday – i do i do last place,
saturday sunday they also last place but 13% rating still not that bad compare to 7-8% and 8-9% everyweek,
i think the producer want to win that timeslot after A Gentleman’s Dignity finished consider they almost in same rating in first 4 episode with AGD, i think the producer confident enough Dr. Jin will got good rating when AGD finished coz maybe they think many people that watch it first 4 episode maybe want to know how this drama finished compare to new makjang SBS drama that usually have boring story in early episode

If you saw a recent episode, I forget the number, apparently brain injuries and epidemics aren’t the only requirements for Dr. Jin. So, there’s lots of other organs to still gross-out viewers and again….spoiler alert, if you saw the latest “invention”, I’m actually amazed at the ingenuity of the writers to come up with Joseon day equivalents. I’m looking forward to the next
“invention” by Dr. Jin. Surely, an X-ray, at the very least isn’t all that impossible for this genius doctor!
Well, now it makes sense that both Jaejoong and HeadsNo2 were crying in my dream last night, while Cheech & Chong were happier than ever!
It’s one thing to have the luxury of laughing at this awful drama week after week, but the thought of those poor actors being trapped into an extension is just sad. Except for SSH. He deserves what he gets for this one, along with his BFF director.

I’d be most willing to watch out for more episodes of Dr.Jin..I went time-slipped too while watching the series and it’s informative & creative as well, not to mention the powerhouse cast..I’m watching the top rating too but I stopped halfway..I just felt awkward as the cast maybe they’re misfits for the roles..I watched GD to see some appearances of Lee JongHyun, and hear his voice over the end credits per ep. But for me TSDJ suits my taste of drama soju:) with the epic substance and twistedness, I salute the prod staff and the appropriate casting!after watching ep 10, I even predicted that it would be more than 20 eps..I’d love to see more more more of it, and hear JaeJoong’s & SeungHun’s voices in the OST! TSDJ FIGHTING!!!!

Dr. Jin is totally entertaining. It’s unintentionally funny that I can’t stop myself from waiting for upcoming episodes, even though it gets weirder and weirder.

Last Sunday at 11pm. Dr. Jin was only 15% subbed on Viki! That’s to show hw much it sucks. AGD was already 100% subbed by 6pm!! I must agree that the recaps are far more better than watching the drama. It must suck for PMY. I don’t really think she’s a good actress.

Yes I think Jin is bad compared to AGD, but you can have Jin subbed 100% if there was even one person who was into this drama. Just becayse a drama is subbed 100% before another drama, does not mean it is good/bad.
It just means that there are more people or rather more proper translators putting time into AGD over Jin. If you pulled one of those translators from AGD onto Jin, you’d have a subbing rate of 60 AGD, 40 Jin by 3pm.

One drama (AGD) is in current standard Korean and the other (Dr. Jin) is in sageuk speech plus has a lot of medical terms.
AGD is easier for Korean speakers to sub whereas normal Koreans do not go around speaking saguek randomly or using medical terms…..therefore the subbing takes longer.
SKKS was a really popular drama….but even that drama’s episodes were subbed completely by the end of the week….and not a day.
I also don’t think PMY is a good actress….with facial expressions. In this drama, she only cries with a straight face almost all the scenes. But, I am wondering if that is a result of her plastic surgery and not her actually being a bad actress….(?) But, she has complete control over her tone.

I confess I haven’t watched a single episode of this drama because pretty as he may be, Song Seun Heon simply does not have the acting chops to make me want to watch. I have to say though, I really enjoyed the original Japanese dorama. I thought it was well executed and well acted.
I’ve been following Dr. Jin and the writers really have swayed from the original story from this point. I have a feeling they need two more episodes because they wrote themselves into a hole at this point with so many unresolved storylines… Even though they ratings are low, they are probably planning to make more money promoting this drama abroad. So that’s probably why they are asking for an extension as well.
I think they just want an extension so that the show can end on a “higher” note…since AGD is suppose to end on the same date, they’d rather have 2 more episodes without the competition…lol…of course that could backfire if AGD decides to extend as well or if the premiere of the show after AGD is a highly anticipated one….I can’t even say that the storyline will be negatively affected cuz from what we’ve all seen, it can’t possibly get worse than it already is…lol.

Count me as one who would like an extension of the Dr Jin drama. Why? I enjoyed each and every episode shown. Whatever ratings it gained what is that to me? Nothing. I’m an overseas viewer. I found the drama interesting with casts who entertained me and so I’m well satisfied. It’s just that simple. Thanks.
