Shim Eun-kyung courted for Waiting For You

Box-office draw Shim Eun-kyung (Miss Granny, Sunny) is being wooed for the gritty film Waiting For You, about a serial killer who is caught and thrown in the slammer — but justice hasn’t been served, according to the family of the deceased. She’s considering the offer of the central character, who is seven when she loses her father to the murderer, and who waits until he gets released from prison 15 years later to make her move.
The revenge-thirsty part would be a radical departure from her previous bright and cheerful roles, and Shim Eun-kyung is said to be interested in Waiting For You because of the exciting script. As the youngest actress to be dubbed ‘box office queen,’ the young starlet is under immense pressure, but she seems to handle her projects with maturity and ease, and I’m sure she’d inhabit this character with equal aplomb. At 19 (going on 20), she’s already been acting for a decade and has built an impressive resume — I hope she takes this job, as it sounds like it would add a layer of depth to her previous body of work.
Waiting For You will be directed by newbie Mo Hong-jin (a co-writer on Our Town), and once casting is complete, cameras are expected to start rolling in August.

If she does this, does that mean no Nodame?....then I'd rather she do Nodame...she would be fantastic in anything with that range but I want her to try her hand at dramas for a change

Nodame isn't slated to start before late October.
If schedules are respected, she will have enough time to film both.

I want her to do this 'cuz it will broaden her horizon as a actress.
HOWEVER, SHE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR NODAME. I can't imagine anybody else do it like Ueno Juri did...unless they select a brand new K-actress I've never seen before...no existing actress comes to mind to play Nodame.

ARGH does this mean she's not gonna take Nodame? I'm stressed out just thinking of who'll end up taking the role of Nodame if it's not her...
(Although I must say that this project sounds fantastic and given a different circumstances - my puristic views on Nodame makes me critical about its K-remake... - I would love to hear her confirm this movie)

I don't see any problem with IU being nodame. I can totally see nodame in her. I'm more afraid about script of the drama. If IU gets good drama with good characterization then she could kick some ass in field of acting too.But I don't want her to take this role coz I have a feeling that this drama isn't going to be well made.

shim eun-kyung it's 1.000.000 times better than IU in terms on acting, i want a really good actress in nodame's role than a cute girl as IU.
Nodame Cantabile Needs the best actors in Korea, and im sorry but IU is not good for this role.

i wouldn't say like 1000000 times better as you were saying but we all know she is better than IU. nobody here said IU is better actress than her. they just said IU is also suitable actress if incase shim eun kyung rejects it. IU won't be as good as shim eun kyung but still she has capability to manage this role. i would be happy if shim eun kyung acccepts this role. if incase she rejects it i wouldn't mind IU as nodame either

The bigger problem is NOT the female lead, but Joo Woo, who tends to overact all the time and who doesn't have comic timing. They need to find a better actor, if there is any.

Last year I wondered where's she because she's so talented and I wanted to see hee new project. Now, I can see her in headlines more often than any other young actress in her generation. I would prefer her to do Nodame because I want to see her in a longer project than 2 hours movie.

Everyone here thinks she should do Nodame, but personally career-wise I think this movie is a better choice. Nodame sounds like it'll attract more fangirls for JW and possibly make SEK more popular in the whole of Asia (if it becomes a kwave sensation) but for her own sake it's probably better to do good films.

It’s just my opinion, but I want to see her in Nodame. I think they are good couple with Joo Won with their great acting abilities. Nodame is a very important and difficult character, she can shine there.

Omg i just watched Miss Granny and she is so talented. I never heard of this girl before and when i read her resume i was shocked to see all the hit projects she was in.
That`s what happens when Korea overpromotes pretty ,talentless girls like Suzy, but gives real acting jewels like Shim Eun Kyung few mentions.

Yeah, it irks me at times that a show or movie over-promotes the low-talent idols and eye-candy over plot and acting. It happens so often that a lot of the really good younger actors never have a chance because they are competing against the ratings power of idols.

But this girl is HUGE , her movies are more successful than anything any idol has done in acting. So she is not just some random rookie actress, she is a box office draw.
She should be getting CF deals left and right, but she doesn`t fit into Korean `standard of beauty` like Yoona and Suzy so she can have 10 hits in the row , still she won`t get as much attention.
Maybe if she started acting more in dramas. I know movies are much bigger than dramas in Korea, but internationally dramas are what make actors popular. So maybe it wouldn`t be a bad thing for her to do Nodame drama.

I was not referring specifically to this actress - just in general. I have nothing against her, and she seemed OK in the one movie I saw with her in it.

Shim Eun-kyung please take Nodame! You're my only hope against the nightmare that some idol girl would land the role and ruin it for me. I've read the manga, watched and re-watched the series, the anime and all the movies and to say that I love Nodame to bits is an understatement. Ueno Jurie is perfection but I think you would be perfect as well. I wish you all the best and really you're awesome and all that, but, save me!!!

I loved her acting in Bad Guy; whenever I find time to watch some scenes in that series, I always look for her part with Kim Nam Gil. They just looked so natural and love them two! Wish she could do a romcom movie with him, like daddy long legs plot or something like my little bride. *_*
