Kam Woo-sung courted to be Lee Young-ae’s leading man

Now that Lee Young-ae (Dae Jang Geum) has confirmed her drama comeback in the biopic Saimdang, The Herstory, the casting rounds have begun to find her leading man. The offer is currently out to Kam Woo-sung (My Spring Days) to co-star, which would mark his first sageuk in five years since he headlined King Geunchogo.
Saimdang is a Joseon-era historical drama about real-life artist, poet, and calligrapher Shin Saimdang, known as Wise Mother. She lived in the 16th century, and the drama will be set in both her lifetime and the present day, with Lee Young-ae playing dual roles. She’ll be a present-day historian who discovers a secret in Shin Saimdang’s life and sets out to unravel the mystery. She then also plays Shin Saimdang in the past, as the drama explores her unusual life as an educated woman in Joseon, and tells the story of her epic love.
Kam Woo-sung has been cast to play her central love interest, a fictional character invented for the drama. He’s a carefree soul trapped by the strictures of his life, and just when he’s on the verge of suffocating, a young woman hops over his wall and enters his life, changing it forever.
I don’t know about chemistry, but both actors are from the same era (they debuted in the early nineties) and it seems like a good match from two seasoned actors who have each headlined big sageuks before. I have a feeling that this show did half its work in getting Lee Young-ae to sign on. Making the thing is a cakewalk after that, right?
Writer Park Eun-ryung of Women Next Door, Second Propose, and Saving Go Bong-shil Ajumma is penning the script, and Saimdang begins shooting in June for a broadcast next year on SBS.

I'm ok with him being cast as I've heard good things about him, and the pairing itself has potential, but I hope it doesn't focus on the romance. Wouldn't it undermine the spirit of praising her vast accomplishments if the plot devolves into a love story?

Hmm. This is, um, such a flattering picture of the guy. He really DOES look like he's from another era, though at first glance I'd place him in the 70s, not 90s. LOL.
I can't say anything about his acting (which I imagine must be awesome), since I can't recall where I've seen him before, but...I was rather hoping for a dappier fellow to play opposite Lee Yong-Ae.

The actor was unknown to me until I saw him in My Spring Days, which he was great in.
His acting style is a bit different in that it's more calm, with less urgency, but certainly not lacking in feeling.
This style certainly worked in My Spring Days and if this new story calls for someone with these characteristics, then he'll be well-suited for the role.

Kam Woo-Sung should be playing the role of an artist in his own series, not being an appendage to another actor. He's too talented to not be the main attraction.

This is INSANE, I can't even begin with my words of adoration, praises and excitement! I love Lee Young-ae and that about summarizes all the thing I have for dramaland. Then, you put Kam Woo-sung into the picture, AS Lee Young-ae's leading man? Oh man, I have never felt more alive in recent kdrama news! This is beyond amazing, and I am excited to see this happen. Make it happen. Omg!

And BTW, just to clarify things, I think a pairing of Kam Woo-Sung with Lee Young-Ae is definitely something worthy of excitement. I *loved* her in "Lady Vengeance." I just get tired of the insult of Mr. Kam always being so embarrassingly underrated. I guess it doesn't pay to make your roles fit so well that people don't think you're acting.

Kam Woo-sun brings so much heart, warmth, vulnerability and strength to this roles in Alone in Love and My Spring Days; he will be Lee Young-Ae's compatible counter part. His singing resembles his acting style too.
