Choi Won-young to play Choi Ji-woo’s husband in Twenty Again

Ah, we finally find out more about Choi Ji-woo’s husband in her new tvN drama Twenty Again, now that the role has been cast. Choi Won-young (I Remember You) has signed on for the part, which is bound to make the love triangle interesting because he’s so good at being charismatic no matter the character he plays (he’s especially compelling and creepy in his current drama I Remember You). Okay, so admittedly I won’t be THAT conflicted — she might be married to the guy, but come on — Lee Sang-yoon.

The coming-of-age drama stars Choi Ji-woo as a woman who became a wife and mother at 19, and gets a second chance to experience college life when she decides to go back to school twenty years later. Her husband fell in love with her at first sight when she was an 18-year-old dancer, but he’s a professor of psychology who looks down on her for not being college-educated, and eventually asks for a divorce. Well now I’m already rooting for her to stick it to him.

His character is a master at crafting his image, and an intellectual snob who thinks and acts on his own. He believes he’s extremely mature, but he’s actually a person whose actions are quite different from his words. We don’t know if they’ll already be divorced by the time she shows up as a student on his campus, or if winning him over is part of the reason she goes back (or if he’s embarrassed because she goes back to school), but it should make for a pretty good conflict.

Added to that is of course her reunion with first love Lee Sang-yoon, who will be a professor in the theater/film department. I’m just glad to know that he actually has a shot at this romance, given that all we’ve heard in the casting stories until now is that she’d have a husband. Her son (Kim Min-jae) and his girlfriend (Sohn Na-eun) will be her fellow freshman classmates, because yunno, this is dramaland and there’s only one university in the entire world.

Twenty Again follows Oh My Ghostess in August.

I'm glad the husband storyline is turning out this way. It will make it easier to root on the new romance if her ex-husband (or future ex-husband) is a snobbish jerk.

Wow, Choi Won Young is picking up a lot of roles in a very short period of time, lately!! Not that I'm complaining hehe but I must say, my favourite role from him so far is his assistant role from "Kill Me, Heal Me" XD

Ok....this looks interesting and all, but I have so little time for dramas these days, it's kind of depressing...

BUT,
When I pulled up your site, Kang Ji Hwan's photo with the "I'll have your tears for breakfast" banner made my day. I miss KJH, and this pic hadn't come up in awhile....

"Her son and his girlfriend will be her fellow freshman classmates, because yunno, this is dramaland and there’s only one university in the entire world."

LOL. I like the more mature-sounding romance. More importantly, I can see myself rooting for both guys depending on how they are characterized on screen. It's good to root for both sides of the triangle instead of being swept by a fanwar. Now I'm looking forward to the drama.

Okay, yay. Now I can root for Lee Sang Yoon freely and without guilt. I know we all wanted Lee Seo Jin to play the husband, but then that would have been majorly conflicting. Or maybe not at all... But now that the husband has been cast, I'm satisfied. Choi Won Young is a cutie ahjussi but he's not Lee Seo Jin. Also, with the jerk description of his character, I don't think we should be rooting for him. So Mr. Dimples it is.

Kind of sounds like a simplistic version of the marriage in A Wife's Credentials with all the difficult, morally gnarly bits combed out in favor of rom com tropes. Well, I suppose that would be tvN's answer to jTBC. I'm just saying, if we're going to talk about marriages not working out, why not confront the issue of divorce head-on instead of forcing things into your typical love triangle? This show is a long while off and it already feels emotionally disingenuous to have her ex-husband (or soon-to-be ex) presented as the nasty, high-falutin Plan A who finds himself an also-ran, while she's absolved of the stigma of divorce by trying to save the marriage or win him back, when any rational adult should have moved forward and realized she needed to live for herself, on her own terms.

Acclaimed scriptwriter, great casting... this one’s gonna be a winner even before it starts. I’m just really glad its not with the Big 3 as recently I’ve begun to realize cable stations especially TVN and JTBC have been hiring all the great talents and perhaps its because they are cable, they put less pressure on the creatives allowing their true talent really shine and hence one hit production after another. (Reply series, Emergency Couple, Secret Love Affair etc). Even Na PD seems to have flourished given the free hand he is allowed to make the kind of shows he wants to.

Kinda had enough of the rubbish that is executives changing scriptwriters, directors, halfway into productions, story lines taking drastic turns to cater to fanfare and advertisers.

So excited!!! Can’t wait.

Well, now knowing this added information, I'm pretty relieved this isn't the same kind of relationship of the one in 'Angry Mom' ^^U

Oh my goodness, his role as Eugene's husband, then, ex-husband! He's the only thing I remember from that drama. ...... One minute he was making Eugene's life miserable, then he's throwing a tantrum in front of his mother like a spoiled brat, then he'd drink himself into a confused stupor, only to end up pursuing his ex like a clueless adolescent! ..... And he'd do all this with a comedic touch. It was hilarious.

Looking forward to what he's going to do here, because he's been doing a variety of roles lately ..... and they've all been interesting.

Why wasn't Lee Seo Jin cast in this drama? :(If the first love character was a bit short-tempered who'd probably pick on Choi Ji Woo's character, then he'd definitely fit the role! Hahah but yeah, it'd seem more like a reality show than a drama. Anyhow, can't wait for this drama, lovin' the storyline already! :)
