Ji Chang-wook and Shim Eun-kyung confirmed for action thriller Invented City

The cast is confirmed and cameras are rolling for the new crime action thriller movie Invented City, which stars Ji Chang-wook (Healer) as an everyman who suddenly finds himself on the run from the law when he gets framed for a murder, and Shim Eun-kyung (Cantabile Tomorrow) as the person who helps him clear his name. Pssh, what’s a tiny little murder rap to the Healer?
The new film from director Park Kwang-hyun of Welcome to Dongmakgol is about an unemployed loser who’s the heroic leader of a team in his virtual gaming world, but a washout in real life. One day he’s accused of murder in an elaborate frame job and his whole life changes overnight, and he sets out to find the truth and fight against the people who set him up.
Shim Eun-kyung plays a genius hacker who helps Ji Chang-wook get to the truth. Hm, a guy fighting a murder charge with a genius hacker fairy on his side? Throw in ninja skills and he’s basically the Healer! Not that I’m complaining about this, mind you, especially from these two actors.
Oh Jung-se (The Lover) co-stars as a secretive public defender, Kim Sang-ho (Doctor Stranger) plays a ruthless man who chases Ji Chang-wook to the bitter end, and Ji Chang-wook’s fellow gamer team members include Kim Ki-chun (Revivre), Ahn Jae-hong (C’est Si Bon), and Kim Min-gyo (SNL Korea).
Invented City is shooting now and plans to hit theaters next year.

Ji Changwook is slowly becoming the next Lee Minho... subpar acting hyped up because of his looks. Healer was basically City Hunter 2.0, and now he's going along with a very similar role.
I like him enough, but he needs to expand his acting range so he isn't marginalised to the same role time and time again.

While in my opinion he's not the best actor in Korea, not yet, his acting is certainly not subpar and not hyped up because of his good looks. If that was the case, he would be famous from long time ago, not only recently because of Empress Ki and Healer that showcased his acting ability and range.
If you have seen all his works, you can see this guy likes to challenge all sorts of roles, nice guy type, villain, reserved type, emotional type, etc..

Agree with @kanz, definitely not the best actor, but definitely not hyped too, even his good looks are noticed much later. And Healer was not hyped too , it was under rated (look at the ratings please)... LMH's drama was a blockbuster (FOV)
YYS and JCW both have good looks (obviously it's an advantage) but they have tried so many different type of roles,good to evil, their acting is very touching, they just blend with the character.

He's not the next Lee Minho...he's been around for 7-8 years since his debut and did not shoot to stardom with his 1st lead drama - the way Lee Minho did. He's had modest success and some ups and downs in his career - even playing 2nd lead villain in 'Five Fingers. He's been slow and steady, improving his craft acting in dramas, musicals, music videos, you name it....If you have seen his dramas esp Empress Ki and Healer, you could never say that his acting is "subpar"

Well LMH didn't shoot to stardom either with his 1st drama. He has been acting for like 3-4 years before he did BOF, which was such a big hit and put his name on the map. But I never liked him until City Hunter. Now I am a fan. Same thing with JCW, I never took notice of him until Healer. Now I can't wait for his project and so looking forward to this film.

Like Lee Min Ho has consolidated his image as a charming rogue, Ji Chang Wook is establishing an image as a slightly damaged man in extraordinary circumstances who is saved by getting involved with a smart and sassy woman. I don't agree that this movie sounds like Healer. JCW's character in this movie is just a normal guy who is jobless, but only good in gaming while Healer has a job that makes him lots of money and he is awesome in fighting. In Healer, there is no face-to-face interaction or romance between Healer and the ajuma hacker. In this movie, I expect some romantic scenes between the young cute hacker girl with JCW's character. I think JCW wants to challenge himself with a different image, so I don't expect any similarity. Good actor doesn't want to repeat himself for similar roles again and again. Anyway, I'm very excited for this movie. I love both of these 2 main leads! Shim Eun Kyung is the queen of box office in 2014, and I'm glad that JCW works with such an excellent actress in his debut movie as the main role. Yay!!!

Thanks for saying that. I don't think this movie will be similar to Healer, either. Just like how Healer, imo, is absolutely not a City Hunter 2... Plus, I trust Ji Chang Wook, he wouldn't accept the role if it's not a new and challenging role. Yes can't wait to see both of them in this movie. I hope the director will do his best with such an awesome casting!

I was thinking, oh dear.... this means we won't see JCW until next year since after this movie he'll probably enter the Military Service. So I wasn't as excited as I'd be if he were appearing in a drama airing this year. Still movie news is better than no news and we know he's been busy in endorsements and fan meets, so he's not invisible by any means.
I watched Sim Eun Kyung in Cantabile Tomorrow and nothing else. I guess her character did not grab me, in fact her character in the beginning grated on me... it was not too bad towards the end but I had ceased to care for the show. So I will take the comments of others for now and trust that she is a good actress and that her pairing with JCW will at least strike good buddy sparks if no loveline. :)

Is it better if this is an action romantic comedy and thriller movie? Anyway, I agree that Shim Eun Kyung and Ji Chang Wook are such a perfect combo. Their acting skills are top-notch, and their personalities are similar too! I remember after Empress Ki, there was some rumor that JCW will act in drama 'Mr. Baek' (a story of a grandpa aging backward to his 30s), but it didn't happen. It's funny that he is now acting with the actress who acted in movie 'Miss Granny'.

Looking forward to seeing Shim Eun Kyung in a new movie. I've seen her in Sunny and Miss Granny and she was awesome. This movie is right up her alley too. She plays oddball really well.
