Lee Jong-seok courted for medical drama Beautiful Mind

Apparently dramaland is hellbent on resuscitating Dr. Frankenstein — the drama about a geeeeeenius doctor with a split-personality (though the details of his actual condition are vague, which we’ll get to). It was once courting Kim Soo-hyun to star, then later Yoo Ah-in, but kept getting delayed on KBS’s schedule. It’s looking to make a comeback with a new name, Beautiful Mind, and a new face in Lee Jong-seok (Pinocchio, Doctor Stranger).
The series comes from writer Kim Tae-hee of Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and will be produced by the company behind Records of a Night Watchman and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. It’s about a genius neurosurgeon (because yunno, a regular neurosurgeon isn’t smart enough) who has a frontal lobe lesion that keeps him from feeling emotions. Wait, are we giving our drama heroes medical excuses to be assy now?
They’re calling him a character with a split-personality, but now that we know about his medical condition, I think it might be a general reference to his multiple sides, and perhaps not literally a case of dissociative identity disorder. I know I’ve had my fill of multiple personalities in dramaland, so I’d prefer not to go there if at all possible.
The doc is described as handsome and extraordinarily skilled, with a cold personality. Because of his inability to feel feelings, he’s a lonely and dangerous character. Lee Jong-seok is considering the offer as one of many possible projects, and KBS is still undecided about what timeslot it’ll get. I dunno, I adore Lee Jong-seok and always want him back on my TV, but a retread of his Doctor Stranger character with less emotion? At least there are no spies in this one, right? RIGHT?

@Newbie: Aww, don't feel depressed from the negativity! I think he's a talented actor and really like his acting! I enjoyed watching his dramas and missed having him on my computer screen. So, looking forward to his next project, even if it's not this medical drama (personally I hope he would avoid it after the disaster of Dr. Stranger).

The one time I like LJS was in Secret Garden - he had some mystery then. Only seen him in one other drama, Pinocchio. I don't think he's cut out for dark, twisted roles such as this one. We need a lead with more facets. Not too 'likable' or pretty. Ji Sung did okay with his multiple role, maybe because he has a 'unique' look that can be played around with. I'm so-so with this drama casting.

I love Lee Jong Seok, but after watching the debacle that is Dr. Stranger (in terms of production, writing, lead female urgh) and learning the seemingly preposterous plot of this new drama, I wish he'd steer clear from this one.

im surprised ljs gets this much flack when contemperaries of his age group are so much more lacking. wasnt he the youngest actor to receive a daesang award for highest achievment in acting, when only well seasoned actors 10+ years im their career reveive it ? feels like he gets a lot of jealous hate from fans of his ex co stars for absurd reasons.

Dramabean users won't want to admit it, but they judge him more harshly in general because they don't find him attractive and therefore they don't think he should be this popular. It all comes back to looks, even when you see comments criticizing his acting they always tag on a 'and he's not attractive!!!', it's so transparent. I'll bet you anything if a person they deemed attractive had the level of acting as Jongsuk, they'd be kissing his shoes.

I really dont know why this guy is so "handsomely famous" in korea, they really have different taste... Anyway acting wise he's OK, but due to his looks and appearance he should have limited roles since its not gonna be convincing enough... He's not effective enough, for me , on romantic lead roles... His looks does fit for a vampire terror, or mentally retarded, sorry thou... Unless he will transform a lot!!!

Even if his flower boy looks aren't your taste he's in no way hideously disfigured. I hope he keeps getting amazing roles if it pisses off people like you this much

LOL for haters..if you said he is not goodlooking it's okay although for me and millions people out there he is handsome and charming..but couldn't act?LOL..i saw all his dramas and movies and i can guarantee that he is the most talented actor in his age..and that"s why he won many awards...you see???he acted good in doctor stranger..don"t blame him for bad scenario!!!!!!

Well I m from India and I started my k journey a month back and so far I have watched 10-12 shows hahha. I got addicted to K dramas coz my frnd asked me to watch My Love from another star (I was 1t confused how can I watch whn it is not dubbed in english hah) which I really liked, then I watched secret garden (LOL I didn't knew Lee jong suk then but I loved this show), boys over flower, full house, my gf is gumiho, kill me heal me (Awesome my fav) and so on.. 10 days back I watched Pinocchio- agn on recommendation of sites ad my frnd and I liked it.I mean I m just 10 days old admirer of lee jung suk and I remember his name is in itself a great thing coz I find it difficult to remember korean names. I liked him so much tht I watched his another show I can hear your voice and after tht i watched his bts, videos and found him adorable and cute. Now, after sometime will watch his school show too.. From all the K shows I have watched so far (Some I cannot remember as of now) I really loved four shows the most- My love from another star, secret garden, kill me heal me and pinocchio (I mentioned the name of the shows in order I watched)
So ya without being biased and just very new to K dramas and definitely know lee jong suk as an actor for 10 days and now he is one of my fav. SO, I found him cute and he can act according to me.

M a big fan of lee jong suk,really wana see him make a comeback to drama land bt nt wif beautiful minds.. Ljs is one of d best,reading some of d comment above gave me goosebumbs..even if doctor strangere was nt kul,i loved d fact that e improved....school2013-pinnochoi......e is way too good
