She Was Pretty: Episode 7

Sung-joon and Hye-jin get stuck with some alone time together in the name of business, and the unexpected opportunity alarms more than just the two of them. Everyone’s feelings are starting to get in the way of their rational thoughts, emotions run high, and at least one of the foursome hits a new low.

EPISODE 7 RECAP

Hye-jin and Sung-joon are forced to ride to the business meeting together, and the drive is awkwardly silent. Every time Hye-jin tries to make conversation or lighten the mood, Sung-joon shushes her, even shooting looks at her when her stomach growls. She wonders, and rightly so, what happened to the nice guy who gave her the onion.

He does at least stop so she can eat, and he even orders a pricey steak dish. HAHA, the restaurant owner is the same actress who plays Chief Editor Kim. Sung-joon repeatedly assures Hye-jin that it’s okay because he’s paying for the food, but oops, we see that he left his wallet on his desk back at Most.

He’s so fussy that he wears an apron to protect his clothes from oil splattering off the grill, but Hye-jin declines — it’s only her employee ID that needs protection. She just slings it around to the back, and digs in.

Sung-joon belatedly realizes the apron he’s been given has a cartoon body of a woman in a bikini on it, but it’s worth it to keep his clothes nice, hee. Hye-jin can’t stop giggling at how he covers the bosom on the apron as they eat. He gets revenge though, pettily shaking the chilly water off his lettuce at her.

Poor Sung-joon realizes he’s without his wallet, and looks like he’d rather die than ask Hye-jin to pay after insisting on the expensive beef. He finally ekes out the request — but Hye-jin’s account has insufficient funds.

The restaurant ajumma assumes they plan to split without paying, so Sung-joon offers to leave his scarf as collateral and pay when Joon-woo and Seul arrive. It’s a collector’s item worth much more than their bill, but the ajumma only sees a rag like the many she already has, and threatens to call the police on them while Sung-joon calls Seul.

But Seul, sly fox, has been driving in the complete opposite direction by “accident” as a ploy to get more alone time with Joon-woo. She says she’ll turn around, but is obviously in no hurry.

Hye-jin calls Ha-ri to send the money, but her phone goes unanswered, and the restaurant ajumma looks ready to fillet her and Sung-joon. Sung-joon doesn’t have anyone to call for help, which Hye-jin thinks is sad.

Next Hye-jin tries to call Shin-hyuk but he’s away from his desk, so Reporter Cha answers his phone. The restaurant ajumma tells her to send money to cover Hye-jin’s bill, but Reporter Cha thinks it’s a scammer and hangs up on her, then forbids anyone else at Most to answer calls from Hye-jin’s phone.

Left without options, Sung-joon and Hye-jin are forced to don ajumma pants and work off the bill. The restaurant owners also have their own cattle farm, so they’re set to shoveling manure. Sung-joon is particularly prissy about the idea, hee.

The two get in a fight while working over whose fault this is, and they end up bumping tushes and knocking each other into the manure. Sung-joon goes into a full-on freakout at touching cow poop, but he sobers up when he sees the ajumma glaring at him. They’re working so hard, Hye-jin doesn’t notice when her treasured employee ID comes off and is left in the dung.

Back at the office, the Most employees order soondae (blood sausage made with intestines) and Shin-hyuk makes faces at it. He’d done the same when he and Hye-jin ate at that street stand, but remembering how much she enjoyed it, he gives it a try now. And promptly spits it back into the bowl.

Sung-joon and Hye-jin hit their stride and get the whole barn clean, and they even almost high-five, ha. As they rest, Sung-joon asks Hye-jin to keep the fact that he cleaned up cow poop a secret, and she agrees just because it would bother him.

They both lie looking at the sky quietly, then both notice the same pretty cloud and frame it with their hands. They don’t notice that they’re doing the same thing, because the ajumma comes to tell them they’ve paid off their bill. But this is when Hye-jin realizes she’s lost her employee ID.

Sung-joon thinks she can just get another one, but it means too much to Hye-jin to just leave it. She runs off to look, but can’t find it anywhere and dejectedly changes back into her own clothes. But when she comes out, Sung-joon hands her the ID, which he says was on the ground.

That must be a lie, because when Hye-jin kisses her ID in relief, he nearly horks. The restaurant ajumma comes by to ask why Sung-joon ransacked the manure pile, and Hye-jin realizes what he did to find her ID, though he stubbornly sticks to his original story.

On the next leg of the trip, Hye-jin explains that this is her first good job, and that she’s always admired people with an ID like this. Every time she looks at it, she feels thankful and proud, and like she belongs. She figures she’s probably overreacting, but Sung-joon has the cutest grin on his face right now.

He says that everyone has something like that, that has special meaning only to them. She asks what his special thing is, and he tells her that it’s “the thing you broke,” meaning his framed puzzle. He holds out his hand, and she tentatively takes it, thinking they’re having a moment… only for him to demand money for the broken frame. HA.

She starts to write down his account number to send the money later, and Sung-joon grins that she’s so gullible. She insists on paying, until he tells her it’s worth about a thousand dollars, then she’s all I’ll take it as a joke, sir! We all saw that giant smile, Sung-joon, don’t try to hide it.

Joon-woo and Seul also stop to eat at a food court, where Seul claims that all the (immaculate) chairs are dirty so she can sit next to Joon-woo. She thinks over her plans to pretend her car has broken down, fake calling for a mechanic, and canoodle under the stars after dark. The heir to Jin Sung Group will be hers!

Sung-joon and Hye-jin arrive at their destination, and Hye-jin goes flying across the beach excitedly, before catching sight of Sung-joon and remembering his admonishment that they’re not on vacation. Awww, he flings his arms out like she did and calls, “Ah, it’s nice!” in this awkwardly adorable voice.

Hye-jin offers to have some money transferred ahead of time for dinner, worriedly asking Sung-joon if he’ll pay her back and causing him to offer an annoyed IOU. HA, this time she was pulling his leg.

Sung-joon takes a call from Ha-ri, but he reminds her he’s on a business trip. She gets a call on the other line from Hye-jin asking for a money transfer which she easily agrees to, but she’s not happy to hear that Hye-jin is on the same business trip with Sung-joon.

Joon-woo is starting to catch onto Seul a bit, wondering why they’re just driving on country roads, when she gets an upset stomach. They see an outhouse in the middle of a field, and Seul about dies of embarrassment to have this happen in front of her conquest. It’s even worse when she has to ask him to bring her some toilet paper.

She finishes up and determines to make the best of it, except that Joon-woo decides to use the restroom before they go and is bowled over by the odor. She tries to run back to the car and trips and falls, and by the time Joon-woo gets to her, she’s having a meltdown. She also hurts her leg which renders her unable to drive, and Joon-woo doesn’t have a license.

Joon-woo gets a call from Shin-hyuk and tells him that they’re stuck, and that they haven’t caught up to Sung-joon and Hye-jin yet. Shin-hyuk realizes that this means Sung-joon and Hye-jin will be spending the night alone together, and doesn’t like the sound of that one bit.

Sung-joon sits at the beach and makes some concept sketches while Hye-jin watches, seeing it come to life on the beach in front of her. His concept is of a single-person vacation, and Hye-jin suggests adding some paper on the table — when you want to share the feeling of this place with someone, you’d want to write a letter.

We see it play out as if Sung-joon were the lonely traveler, sitting on the beach near a bonfire and drinking tea. He writes a letter to the person he would have liked to bring here with him, saying that next time he’ll bring her. Hye-jin says that by adding a connection with someone else into the concept, it would make the vacation idea seem less lonely.

She snaps out of her reverie, but Sung-joon just smiles. He says that he’s had times like that, when a letter excited him, and we see little Sung-joon in America, being bullied by bigger kids. But he’d always gotten letters from a friend in Korea, and being able to write to her had given him the strength to endure.

He says that eventually she stopped writing, and he had a hard time for a long while after that. But he thanks Hye-jin for her good idea, and gives her a real high-five this time. She runs off to play while Sung-joon takes photos, and he smiles every time she’s not looking his way.

At sundown, Sung-joon says it’s time to go, and Hye-jin suddenly stares at him strangely — he called her by name for the first time. He realizes that he’s always called her “Hey Admin,” but asks if that’s not better than how she’s called him “Bullshit Sung-joon.” Touche.

At dinner, Sung-joon fussily picks the peas out of his rice, and Hye-jin laughs, remembering little Sung-joon doing the same thing. She plays with a Rubik’s cube that’s on the table and crows when she gets one side matched, so Sung-joon takes it and says he’ll solve it in thirty seconds. His hands fly, and he slams it down — completely undone, HA.

He says he’s usually great at games, especially Tetris, and he and Hye-jin go nuts together over how much they love it. They get into a good-natured argument about how the music in the game goes, and suddenly the conversation flows easily.

They talk about everything from music to dramas, discovering that they have nearly identical taste (they both love You From Another Star, hee) until the restaurant closes and they have to go. They head to their hotel, both walking as slooowly as possible.

Sung-joon realizes that he never thanked Hye-jin for saving him when he had his panic attack in the street, and tells her about his mother’s death, unaware that she already knows. He wonders why he’s telling her all this, and doesn’t see how deeply moved she seems.

They marvel at the stars, and Hye-jin thinks to herself that he hasn’t changed as much as she originally thought. But her old friend is still in there, and now she regrets hiding from him that first night when they were supposed to meet. She thinks that today, she could maybe tell him the truth.

Joon-woo checks in with Sung-joon to let him know that he and Seul won’t make it to the meeting. When he hangs up, all of Seul’s antics during the day come back to him and he smiles, thinking that she’s kind of cute when she’s off-balance.

Hye-jin decides to come clean and warns Sung-joon that this may shock him. She mentions the saying that memories are more beautiful when left frozen in time, and that she believed it until today. She starts to tell him —

— and hears Shin-hyuk’s voice hollering, “HEY DONGSAENG!” He saunters up to them grinning ear-to-ear and playing Hye-jin’s recording promising to do three favors for him, and demands she produce her promised dinner of sea snails. Okay normally you’re a cutie-pie and I love you, but go away.

Shin-hyuk claims he’s here to take Joon-woo’s and Seul’s place since they couldn’t make it, and Sung-joon doesn’t look happy, he’s allowed to stay. He growls that he doesn’t drink when Shin-hyuk wants to go back out, but when Shin-hyuk says he’ll just drink with Hye-jin, suddenly Sung-joon is all Non-alcoholic drinks are pretty good these days.

They sit on a gorgeous balcony, and Shin-hyuk says that he had to come so fast, he didn’t pack any underwear — does Sung-joon have some he can borrow? HAHAHA. Shin-hyuk whines that if he has to wash and dry his overnight, he’ll have to sleep in the nude… is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Shin-hyuk makes a point to call Hye-jin “dongsaeng” and himself “orabeoni” as often as possible in front of Sung-joon, and Sung-joon gets so flustered he downs a real alcoholic beer. He turns a bit mean again, saying that Hye-jin makes a habit of pretending to be close to people.

Shin-hyuk casually hands Hye-jin the fake spider he’s been trying to scare people with all day, and she finally give him the loud reaction he’s been looking for. He takes it back and holds her hand a lot longer than necessary, until Sung-joon gets fed up and conks him on the head, hard.

They realize that Sung-joon is starting to droop and slur his words, after just a few sips of beer. He mumbles that Shin-hyuk looks sleazy, then nearly topples right out of his chair and they’re left to carry him to bed, again.

Shin-hyuk fixates on Sung-joon’s “sleazy” comment, but reassures his reflection that he’s every handsome, yes he is. He looks through Sung-joon’s camera to see what work ideas he got today, but he frowns at the pictures he sees of Hye-jin. Many pictures of Hye-jin.

When Hye-jin arrives home, Ha-ri wastes no time asking if anything happened with Sung-joon. Hye-jin smiles that it wasn’t uncomfortable, and in fact they became closer because of it. She rushes off to work, saying that there’s a deadline this week and she’ll probably not be around much.

On her way into the office, Sung-joon makes a point to greet her with a smile and call her by name. He seems a friendlier with the rest of the Most team too, even giving them a Fighting! and making them wonder if he’s getting scarier. Hye-jin is all smiles as she greets Onion Head, completely unaware of Shin-hyuk scowling at her.

Sung-joon is too busy to talk when Ha-ri calls him and practically blows her off, but he sends Hye-jin the cutest smile when she leaves food on his desk again. And again, Shin-hyuk sees their silent exchange and looks disappointed and confused.

The Most team works through the night, but in the morning just as they think they’re finished, Sung-joon announces that there’s been a schedule change and the cover shoot will be moved up. Later Hye-jin brings Sung-joon his mail and asks him for some time after the cover shoot — she wants to buy him dinner to pay him back for the broken frame, and she has something to tell him.

She takes Shin-hyuk out to the pojangmacha for dinner, and he asks her what she talked to Sung-joon about earlier. She tells him about the dinner, and he stares at her unnervingly. She assumes she’s reminding him of his little sister and he goes with it, saying how similar they are.

As he’s paying, Hye-jin sees a picture of an adorable poodle in his wallet, and Shin-hyuk casually tells her that that’s his little sister. What now?? Oh you are in so much trouble, mister. Understandably, Hye-jin is not pleased that the “little sister” she so closely resembles is a dog. He defends himself saying he never actually said his “little sister” was a person, so Hye-jin goes nuts and tries to bite him. HA.

She’s calmer later, and asks why he lied to her about his little sister dying. He thinks about it for a long time, then says all confused, “Jackson. I think I like you.” He explains that he didn’t like it when she said she’s going to tell Sung-joon the truth, that it made him worry they would like each other.

He’d wondered why he was acting like this, but now he knows — he likes her, a lot. Hye-jin looks into his earnest eyes for a long time, then cracks up. She almost fell for it! Shin-hyuk swears up and down that he’s dead serious, but she just storms off, angry at him for teasing her that way.

Sung-joon takes Ha-ri out and starts to tell her about the cow poop, but stops himself. When she pushes, he tells her about the intern who shares her same name, and his face lights up when he talks about how fun she is.

Ha-ri turns serious and asks him right out if he’s only hanging out with her because they’re childhood friends. She wants to know why he hangs out with her, and how he feels about her. Sung-joon looks taken aback and starts to speak, just as Hye-jin walks nearby with Shin-hyuk hot on her heels.

Ha-ri steps in close and kisses Sung-joon, and Shin-hyuk just happens to see them from the corner of his eye. He remembers Ha-ri talking about the shoe that doesn’t fit, and Hye-jin telling him that Sung-joon thinks someone else is his Hye-jin.

He groans as he suddenly understands the full situation, and Hye-jin turns to see what he’s looking at. To stop her, Shin-hyuk whirls her around and into a back hug.

COMMENTS

Well, that escalated quickly. A lot has changed in the last few episodes, but since it felt for a bit like the plot was spinning its wheels, I’ll take quick forward movement over brooding at angsty shoes any day. And I’m glad that Sung-joon finally got a chance to get to know Hye-jin, the real Hye-jin, before Ha-ri pushed him into physical contact. It was sweet to see them connect so quickly, which actually makes sense now that Sung-joon is loosening up around Hye-jin. I think he’s already feeling his connection with Hye-jin and I definitely think he knows that Ha-ri isn’t all she claims to be.

Can we all agree that Nice Sung-joon is absolutely precious? I knew he would be, but the way he was so hateful early on, I was worried. He was so cute, making sure Hye-jin had a nice meal, then shoveling dung and finding her lost ID card despite having a complete meltdown about the dung earlier. His teasing her and wanting to spend as much time talking with her as possible was really sweet, and I’m glad he’s relaxing around Hye-jin so soon after seeming to give up on his interest in her. I was worried that would drag on for a few episodes, but this show is getting better at not lingering on anything for too long. Seeing Sung-joon relax and do nice things for Hye-jin, just to see her smile or get a rise out of her, is making me feel better about him and their potential loveline. I do still hope he explains himself for the horrible things he said about her when they first met at work, though, because they were pretty bad and I don’t think he should get a pass just because he eventually came around to liking her. Just making a point to call her by name isn’t enough — he owes Hye-jin, and the rest of the Most staff, a huge apology.

But it’s even more telling that he’s starting to open up to her, and tell her some pretty personal things. I think that deep down, she at least reminds him of his childhood friend, and the only person he’s ever been close with. He feels safe with her, and therefore he’s able to be vulnerable with her. That’s even more important than the jokes and smiles, because it shows that he feels a true sense of connection. A connection that he doesn’t feel with Ha-ri, and is coming to realize more and more, though I expect him to be stuck in his Zeigarnik Effect for a while longer yet.

On the other hand, I don’t really feel, yet, that Hye-jin’s interest in Sung-joon is romantic. Or if it is, it’s still buried underneath her desire to just have her old friend know her again, and I think she doesn’t even let the possibility of romance with Sung-joon enter her head at this point. She may be spunky and smart, but I don’t think she sees herself as someone a man would find attractive. I’m sure she’s feeling something, especially when Sung-joon told her about his mother and his childhood best friend as if it were the first time and she seemed very touched. But I think that right now, Hye-jin would just be happy if he knew who she was and they resumed their friendship. I think she’s going to be as surprised by her own romantic feelings, as she will be by his.

I can’t quite figure out Shin-hyuk, because he’s such a joker all the time, it’s hard to figure out what he’s really thinking. I think he does like Hye-jin a lot, but sometimes I wonder if that “like” is really romantic at all. He really is very older-brother-like with her, the way he follows her around pulling her pigtails, but I’m not convinced that he truly has romantic feelings for her. But for now anyway, he thinks he likes her, and that’s going to complicate everything a lot. Hye-jin still doesn’t even know if she likes him as a friend all the time, much less as a dating prospect. But I will say Shin-hyuk has an edge over Sung-joon in one way, and that’s that he’s liked Hye-jin from the moment he met her. As mentioned, Sung-joon still has a lot to make up for, and I hope he doesn’t get a pass from Hye-jin just because he’s her old friend. That doesn’t excuse some of the things he said about her.

But regardless, once both men realize their true feelings and recognize each other as rivals, I have a feeling the resulting competition is going to be fierce. These are two very strong alpha-males, and neither of them is going to give up without a fight. Though I can’t help but hope that they manage to end up friends in the end, because the few little hints of bromance have been so cute. Let the games begin!

Looking at how Sungjoon warming toward Haejin, it looks like he finally realize that he doesn't have any obligation to fall for Hari who is suppossedly his first love. Because like what his therapist said, it just a matter of unfinished business and he should move on. He can still treat Hari as his best friend but no one force him to fall for her again. And how I love the fact that he does start to fall for Haejin, even before he knows that this intern is his REAL Kim Haejin.

I have zero patience for Hari. If she wants to confess, do it under her real name. Don't confess under his first love's name so he's forced to accept you. Because she knows damn well he would never turn down his Hye Jin no matter how much he likes someone else. And stop calling him. Her "Wifey" clearly told her this week was their deadline, so clearly the Deputy Chief Editor would be busy, yet she still had the nerve to look hurt when he hung up on her. Ugh. I expected Shin Hyuk to kiss Hye Jin, which would make Hye Jin let out her signature bloodcurdling scream, which would jolt Sung Joon from his daze and stop Hari mid-kiss. I love how quick Shin Hyuk figured out the girls' lie. His class clown is all an act.

I know it's best for Hye Jin to come clean since Sung Joon would feel more betrayed if he finds out on his own or hears it from a third-party like Shin Hyuk, but after their nostalgic conversation into the wee hours of the night, I am terrified of his reaction. He has every right to be angry, though, because he is being played for a fool by both friends. The fallout is going to be brutal. I wish Sung Joon had noticed Hye Jin's eyes welling up at his childhood story. She was obviously heartbroken hearing he was bullied in America, but at the same time, she felt guilty having stopped writing him. Her letters were his only happiness. I died laughing at Sung Joon deliberately slapping Shin Hyuk across the head so he would let go of her hand. What's ironic is Sung Joon had his chance when Hye Jin mortifyingly held his hand in the car that he brushed off as asking for payment for the broken glass. Him thanking her for the food she left in his office with the biggest smile on his face was the cutest.

I love how Shin Hyuk's little sister is Coco. Hye Jin was not sisterzoned after all (maybe dogzoned). Now it makes sense why his "little sister" died when she was six. His straightforward confession was a breath of fresh air, but unfortunately to Hye Jin, he is the Boy Who Cried Wolf. A big thanks for the recap, LollyPip!

This episode was so good,i was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
The connection between them feels so real, i feel bad for shin hyuk. That's the problem with being a jokster even when you're serious no one believes you. Le sigh,i have serious second lead syndrome.
Can't wait for next week.

Not quite sure how to take this show anymore. It's at the halfway point and we don't know anything about anyone except their relationships with each other. Like can't we have some clues about their characters plus romance? I'm at a loss about Sung-joon and thus find it hard to connect with him, even when he's spending time with Hye-jin. Their background past childhood flashbacks is a mystery to me and we're halfway there. Even the romantic parts seem like fillers in the absence of real plot.

But I'll digress to comment about our foursome. Seeing Sung-joon lose sense of timing around Hye-jin, reminiscing about the past makes me wonder if he'll ever really live in the present. He's holding a lot of the past, finding himself more grounded there and absent in the present, it makes him feel unrelatable.
As much as I love Shin-hyuk, bruh, what are you doing blocking this moment? I confess to suffering from Second Lead Syndrome but that interference was annoying, because I even question just how much he really likes her. They have chemistry but to what extent when Hye-jin barely sees him as a man. His jokey, teasing nature is cute at times but to win a girl's heart, please be serious.
Hahaha, Ha-ri is a bonafide disaster of a friend. She's definitely reached an all-time low and I can't even sympathize in her torment. I never bought their friendship (pretty "confident" friend can't help her "self-conscious" friend to dress or act better) from day one though so it's not a surprise.. but that longing to be his girlfriend and not just childhood friend is a new level of pathetic. You have so many guys pining after you but you want the ONE guy your friend likes? Yuck.
I really want to know the real reason for Hye-jin's decline. Her confidence reflects in her clothing, her manners. Is it just because her dad's business failed or is there more to it than that?

Honestly, I feel this drama is quite scattered in plot. Too many things going on yet nothing at all. We still don't really know Shin-hyuk's identity, the reason for Sung-joon's abrasive personality, Ha-ri's mom's whereabouts, Hye-jin's morale decline... and the magazine's progress is lagging.

Whelp. ?☕

I agree this drama has no real plot, just some concepts that are loosely tied together. Jung-Eum and Si-won have been doing all the heavy lifting. Their comedic timing is amazing. The other actors/actresses are just coasting along. Sung-joon's character has real emotional issues and needs professional help in Korea not over the phone in the US. At this point the cute is still covering the cracks, but unfortunately the cracks are just getting larger and larger.

Absolutely! Yeah, phone therapist is some bloke reading psychiatric advice from Ask.com, or WebMD. I'm just wondering when we'll get to the issues all these characters face. They have an avenue to talk about real issues besides first love vs. Present live. Sung-joon's trauma, the bullying, should be talked about soon.

I agree about the amazing chemistry between Jung Eum and Siwon, they are great together! Both seem to be outgoing and funny people, I am tempted to ship them in real life... :D

Oddly though, I feel that the writer has a clear mindset about where s/he wants all these pieces to fit in the puzzle so I want to trust that it will come well together soon.

I agree. I feel like the whole who is Hye Jin thing needs to be cleared up and then the smaller things like individual character problems will be adressed.

I do be believe that all these questions will be answered little by little as the story progress since they are inserting scenes from the past that support the present situations.

One of my biggest complaints about kdramas is the repeated notion that a man can behave like an utter jerk, but nonetheless will fall for the main lead and become a sweetie-pie. Whereas in real life, those type of men usually stay mean because that's who they are and they actually like being cruel to people. This series exacerbates the issue further by having SJ not just be a tremendous ass hat, but also have some serious psychological and behavioral issues. Living so much in the past is not healthy. And while the past versions of the leads are incredibly cute, I like you, have had enough of them. I want forward momentum and character growth. And if I can't get it, I want our heroine with her second lead-- because he at least is interesting, mostly honest, present in the here and now, and willing to take action.

Dear Emi, I think those strange ideas come from a very dangerous place: the dream that love conquers all. Sadly there are people that doesn't want to change and others just CAN'T change.

I have this kind of sad idea that as many good men fall for a beautiful lady that only spells trouble, there is a lot of wonderful ladies trapped in a bad relationship with a man that is selfish and troublesome under the idea that they can change them.

I know this post probably won't be popular, but I ask you dear Beanies to express your toughts about this.

*SPOILERRRRRRR ALLLLLERRRRTTTT******

he kind of did in episode 8.

however I wish they hadn't made him such a rude person at times which makes me uncomfortable. it makes me shudder to think that even if they get together what might happen if something happens between them (like you know relationship/family problems) whether he might revert back to the behaviour which makes me shudder. it probably won't be in the scope of the show obv. but one can't but help let their mind wander.

Spoiler alert, in ep 8 what did they do to her? I kinda like the permed hair and the eczema that she has. It somewhat give her character, and the boyfriend's jeans and loose jumper gives all of the antics. Don't change her to a Ha-ri!!!!!

I actually think this show is spot-on in many aspects, if not more.

We have exactly half the show (8 episodes) left to find out all the back story, so far the drama is on a great pace and if it gave away all the story lines and back stories/mysteries of the story it would be super boring.

The love story is developing slowly and I don't think Sung Joon is grounded in the past at all. He is very much in the present due to the fact that he is falling for another girl that reminds him of his childhood friend (who was his type) even though the "past best friend" is right in front of him.

AND THE SHOW IS F*** HILARIOUS. I HAVEN'T LAUGHED SO MUCH FOR A KDRAMA EVER

Fighting "She was pretty"~~~~~~ LOL

I love the moments of SJ and HJ together, they even forgot the time when they were having a fun conversation in the restaurant. They are really meant for each other. But I just hope that SJ won't get HJ fast. He must work a looooong way to get the girl.

long way or not, I'm already relieved that SJ can fell in love with HJ as the person she already is and not after altering her appearance or whatsoever (which seems to be a motif in most dramas where the woman has to change her appearance in order to feel empowered and thus, more valued or loved.) :)

Shin Hyuk and Ha Ri, doing their second lead best by blocking our leads from bonding.

Poor Ha Ri everything she does to push Sung Joon towards her is so agonising and transparent, she even knows it's not working but can't seem to stop herself.

Sung Joon, sigh. Slowly realising that he likes the weirdo intern, but can't abandon the dream girl first love. I feel weirdly ambivalent about the Hye Jin/Sung Joon connection, because I want to chastise him for holding on to Ha Ri because he thinks she's Hye Jin, but he's falling for the real Hye Jin precisely because she reminds him of the childhood Hye Jin. I don't really know why I'm conflicted about it but it bothers me somehow.

Next episode was amazing and I can't wait for the recap.

I think the writers are smarter than we give them credit for. This show isn't cliche-free, but I think it does poke fun at dramas in general. I loved--LOVED--the phone phishing nonsense because that to me was the writers blatantly telling us viewers that there were absolutely no plot holes, and so they had to scoop cow poop.

And the little details are not just there for no reason. It wasn't like the writers just decided to make Shin-hyuk's sister a dog this episode. They planned it long ago, according to the evidence above.

I 100% agree with you! I think the writer of this drama is super amazing! They kind of remind me of the Hong sisters in the use of metaphors, and their amazing comedic timing.

I love how for example how Hye Jin was piggybacked not only because her shoe's sole came off but also because Si Won's pants ripped. Or how after they show sung joon saying he would pay they cut to his wallet but they also add the guy who works saying whether he left it intentionally. Basically the writer is awesome and they show runs really smoothly.

I loved Siwon in his role today - I thought he was amusing and easy comic relief, and was waiting some depth, and he really delivered it in this episode. It's still awkward and quirky and he speaks his revelation out loud.

I'm finding it hard to comment specifically about this episode without Ep 8 clouding my judgement, oops, so I'll stop here.

I feel that the plot is quite weak. So why was Sung Joon so mean again? So he is mean to everyone except when he meets his first love? All they did in this episode is bring the two leads together and force a connection upon us viewers. Plot wise nothing much has happened at all. Suddenly Shin Hyuk is confessing too but at least he's the only one that doesn't seem to hiding something.

agree. watched ep 8 too though so i understand better. he seems to be really bad at managing pressure. he's the lead so they make him cool lol, but in real life a boss like him wouldn't be worth any tears. And as for his meanness, he's just the type that's prickly, i know so many people who are so loving towards their loved ones but become absolute assess to co-workers/others. it's a lot more normal than it seems... for example, guys who are sweethearts to their baby sisters but are serial cheaters to other women. they often get asked, "what if your sister was treated the same way?" but that doesn't stop them.

His temperament might be linked with childhood traumatic event. After his panic attack, he consulted a doctor overseas. Looks like he's been undergoing therapy back in the US. There are also several scenes showing his OCD. The 3-minute rule and bottle of water in his fridge are some clues as well. Also, Too much stress triggers depression/anxiety disorder. I believe the writer did not make him mean just to be cool. By the way today, Oct 10 is Mental Illness Awareness Day. I am loving how smart the writers here.

I dunno about that. The plot is really straightforward: It's about two friends who get to know each other again despite fears that they've changed. We're now on the buildup stage, the climax is probably Sung Joon dealing with finding out he's been lied to and his deadline approaching, then the resolution after that.

I have no idea where you guys are getting this "There is no plot" nonsense.

I dnt agree that there is no plot, even if there are scenes that seems to be for fan service, still these are vital to the overall development of the characters. There are complaints about KHJ lack of character build up, I think we are through with the building up of the secondary characters, and Ep 9 will focus more on KHJ and her character's ups and down.Let's be patient everyone while enjoying the show.

I don't agree either. The plot as said by jam, kuromitsu, Alexa99, and me is very, very clear. and i don;t understand how the story is going in circles. the story has built to the point where in 8 episodes we have seen hye jin get a job, her make a mistake that moves the plot forward, Ha ri make mistakes while falling in love which might cost her her friendship, sung joon fall in love with the real hye jin without realizing it, and si won build a great friendship with hye jin through jokes but which might ultimately cost him her love because he can't take her seriously. sound like plot development to me. and how all these buildups play out will be the next 8 episodes with the back story.

I feel that y'all want the gratification of a fast get together of the main leads - but that will cause the later episodes to get super boring.

Required fields are marked *

I don't agree at all. I think the plot is quit put together. The emphasis is on relationships more than anything else. Perhaps its just not appealing to you? Who knows? The plot is more like an Ex-Girlfriend Club format. The relationships are the highlight and that's what plays out. Although, I will admit that much hasn't happened there too. However, its stull such an amazing show. I love it.

I love it when shows complete the story they want without the influence of ratings or dissatisfied fans. And yes, we are the consumers of their product, but it's not our creative process that's being compromised. It's not our dreams going down the drain. So yeah.

He is upset because he is back in Korea to meet his friend and indeed he met her but she isn't the same! She's changed his life in a way that only he knows and he is craving for that connection but isn't getting any! He has problems from childhood/ being fat/ bullied/ losing his mother is/was a lot and this pretty girl saved him from all that! Not literally but in a way that helped him boost his ego, self respect and to stand up for himself and to match up to her one day. I completely get his angst. He came with a lot of expectation and yes people change but he is just stuck there...I love his character the most. PSJ is displaying his emotions to the helm and I am watching this just for him. One thing I haven't quite worked out about Hye Jin's transformation and I've seen it mentioned in the comments almost every week, is that her 'ugly' transformation seemed more internal than external. She can't dress, she's a mess in when she's nervous, she doesn't understand polite behaviour when sick?? It's obvious that if she wore some make up, better clothes and did her hair she'd be pretty (much like the actress :) but the internal mess that she became after losing her looks, I'd really like to get know more. I don't want her to have a makeover. I want her to become confident, assertive, perhaps better dressed but I want the ruddy complexion and bad hair to stay.

This, very much. I, for one, am against the makeover. It's not an external thing that can be solved with bb cream and straightening iron. She's got some self-esteem issues that need to be addressed, even more than that. But this show isn't giving us anything deeper than surface level, so a makeover is inevitable.

Obvious PPLs of cows, Rubik’s cube, Tetris, and the night sky aside, another solid episode.

I like how they are able to finally get to know each other, not as old friends or boss and intern, but as new friends who could be more (and will be!). It was sad when Hye-jin made the realization that he would have liked her if she had shown herself that first meeting. And her response to that realization was so mature. Instead of wallowing in regret or beating herself over something she can’t change, she decided to tell the truth. I love her to bits. (Hwang Jung-eum, by the way is so good at making Hye-jin a complete character separate from herself. I know a lot of us complained about her trademark shrieking, but even so, I see Hye-jin as Hye-jin and not as Hwang Jung-eum. I love the faces she makes—conveys so much.)

I'm still on Team Shin-Hyuk on this episode. 'Like' may not be as deep as 'love' but i guess his character is staying true to how it really is in real life. He is not even sure of his true feeling towards Hye-Jin at first but Shin-Hyuk showed interest on her despite her supposed not-so-attractive style. He still found her pretty not only physically, but also within. And for me, that just showed that he is sincere. It's also a plus that Siwon plays the role real well.

Seo-Joon's character, on the other hand, is VERY frustrating. I still hate him being so mean on the past episodes and being adorable in this one is not enough for me to forgive him. Nope. Try harder SeoJoon-ah.

Thank you LollyPip!

LOL! the PPL.... they were not trying to sell us .... er .... cow dung, were they? LOLOL!

It's not bad that we've got cute and funny together with a leeetle coming closer of our leads, because there is actually very little story to tell. It's just a matter of reveal upon reveal and reaction and resolution, and there are 8-9 episodes to go. So I trust that we will not get too many push and pull, blow hot and blow cold scenes of our leads and 2nd leads, who are not quite getting together, not quite telling the truth, and not letting go when they should, just to while the episodes away.

The other thing that I note... I look at Ha Ri and I sigh... she looks so unhappy!! She knows she is not happy, she knows it's not right and she just goes ahead to get hurt and feel bad again. It reminds me of Oh Ha Na's expression whenever she was with Cha Seo Hoo in TTILY and we know how that one ended! :( :)

In Ha Ri's defense, she probably still thinks Hye Jin doesn't want anything to do with sung joon. Sure Hye Jin said she got closer with him during the business trip but Ha Ri has been so far gone at that point. It probably didn't register right.

I also don't think she would have done anything if it weren't for that talk with Shin Hyuk where he said, "he's not illegal, go for it!" Not that I agree with her actions, but to me it seems like this is the first time she's felt something deeper for a man. She probably doesn't know how to handle it appropriately, kind of like a teenagers first love.

That being said, come on, this is by no means a deep show. The blatant change in demeanor between child Hye Jin and adult Hye Jin is the biggest indicator of that. Child Hye Jin went to get her hair done every month so it looks nice and sleek. Adult Hye Jin doesn't seem to care how she looks. Even if you're poor, I'm sure there are things you can do if you care about your looks. White socks with black shoes and high water black pants are definitely not the way to go....

I think the effect of the sudden downward plunge of the family’s situation after the bankruptcy on Hye Jin cannot be discounted as it came during her early adolescent years. Bankruptcy was not just the loss of money, but also a loss of position, reputation and respect. We don’t know if there were legal repercussions. It must have been heart breaking to see her loving, successful father brought so low and a frightening insecure time as that was when she broke off contact with her faraway friend. She became the “Queen of Part Time Jobs” and her father is still only printing flyers, having never recovered professionally. She has been living a hardworking, frugal life and her personality makes her self-sacrificing, forgoing comforts for her loved ones. It isn’t surprising that she has forgone investing in her looks until now.

I usually just lurk, but i must say i agree with Kbas on this. It's easy to just say that a person can't change that much, but I don't think she really changed that much, the core qualities are still there, I think as what Kbas mentioned, a loss of money, position, reputation etc will peg a kid down especially when she is the more sensitive type. Life gets to ya is what i am sayin'. Just glad that at least she did not lose her nice personality as well.

Oh does Jirai means bullshit? Cos I was told that it is more like insane garbage or something...Can anyone confirm that please? :)

Totally agree. I think the show has made it clear that the bankruptcy that happened to Hye Jin's family wasn't just something she could just get up and shake off. It really did affect how she saw herself. Her family never really recovered from the experience. Hye Jin doesn't even realize that she is stiil beautiful.

I'm thinking that Hye-jin was probably bullied a bit after her family's downturn; she couldn't afford to take care of her hair or buy the cute dresses like she used to, and she developed skin issues to boot. These sudden changes in Jr. High in a previously popular, rich, pretty girl would have made her a prime target for spiteful comments.

Over time, perhaps she resigned to no longer being the pretty girl and didn't bother to take care of her appearance even a bit.

"Even if you’re poor, I’m sure there are things you can do if you care about your looks. White socks with black shoes and high water black pants are definitely not the way to go…."

Sure, this is true. But, what if you don't have money for new socks and the only ones you have left are white. Do you stop wearing socks or just say, "Well... maybe I'll have money next week/month/year."

I went from having a career that afforded me to spend money frivolously to having a job that barely covered my bills and now I"ve been jobless for 5 months. Because my last job required me to work 60-70 hours, I didn't have any time to shop for new clothes so the "newest" thing in my wardrobe is three years old. Thankfully, never being a slave to fashion, I've been able to get away with it and hopefully no one is looking too closely at my boots that were put together with gorilla glue not realizing that it expands and turns white. I was the girl who got her eyebrows done every three weeks, then it was only when I was going out and now, I'm using tweezers and a bright lamp trying to get all the strays. Sure, they aren't caterpillars but they aren't the sleek brows of five years ago.

I could go on and on about the before/after but I won't bore you and depress myself any more. All I can say is that when you are constantly stressing about money and worrying about how $5 is better spent on food than on getting your brows threaded, things like fashion and beauty start to fall to the wayside. So I can completely understand Hye Jin's poor fashion choices and ambivalence to beauty. What I can't understand is how she went from being a graceful articulate child to this guffawing LOUD over the top person. The rest of her family seem to be mild mannered and normal so why is she SCREAMING and bowing like a maniac?

I agree, that's the biggest mystery for me. She was such a contained and gracious girl, how did she become so unhinged? It almost feels like we saw a zen monk start behaving like a slapstick comedian. Does not compute. I even have a hard time accepting that she was a kid who played games and got excited about them, all we've seen was that unflappable and serene little girl.

I don't care because I like the show but I'd love if we did learn how that extreme change happened to her.

Well, we do not know what type of part time jobs she had to go through. Life is hard when you are poor and being cute most likely will only help you to look an easy victim.
Moreover, when you are put in a tough environment, you become tougher, no matter how gracious and well mannered you were before. I have been working in different environments and I can swear it is truth. If any of you are left several years working on a oil rig or a fishing boat, no matter how refined you are, you would change.

+100 on this one. I love the way she dresses up too. Nothing ugly about it. Even her hair is pretty the way it is, whats wrong with it not being straight? I don't get what the fuss is all about. I think the ugly part that the show is trying to imply is how the world sees her and how that makes her feel. If anything, I think she's confident with herself.

Oh dear Hari is way beyond the redeemable level for me. Not cool, girl.

It's nice to see Sungjoon being nice not only to Hyejin but to The Most team. He's capable of being kind and it is nice to see that the adorable kid is still there. I get that he was mean to Hyejin and the team because their work were not on par with what he expects (or what the higher-ups expect them to deliver in a few months). Hyejin was so clumsy and insufferable in the first few episodes. If I were the boss, I'd be mad too BUT he was clearly out of line in the way he reprimanded Hyejin (and the staff). I do hope he make amends in a huge way.

This is a kdrama, so a transformation is a given to turn Hyejin from "ugly" to "pretty". I'm not a fan of this. Yes, it would be nice to see Hyejin be more put together than her usual style but I hope (yes I am still hoping) that it will not be central in the drama. She has a lot more important things she needs to work on about herself than transforming how she looks like her confidence and self-worth.

As for dear Shinhyuk, aww that was a very straightforward, cute and refreshing confession. I don't know how my heart can take it when he gets heartbroken. He is so precious. His short moments of sadness and seriousness get me every single time. May he find true love and happiness and continue to be adorable and weird. I hope he does not end up with Hari though. Dude deserves someone better!

Is it wrong that I don't want Hye-Jin to change at all? I can feel a-change a-comin' and I really don't want it to happen. I want Hye-Jin to love herself as she is and everyone else to love her that way too - just like Shin-Hyuk did.

I'm reminded of an old film where the typically goth girl transforms herself into a 'pretty' girl for a day and her best friend becomes smitten with her new look. He wanted to date her from the moment her saw her and despite her true feelings for him, she declined - "Will you still like me when I go back to dressing as I did before? Will you still like me when I'm the real me?" He didn't have a reply.

I really don't want Hye-Jin to change at all.

I think we have enough evidence to show for Hyejin loving herself just as she is. She knows she's not pretty, it can get her down, but she goes on with her life.

However, I cheer for a person's exploration into fashion or beauty, and to fulfil a desire they may have to look better than they used to. It can do wonders to boost someone's self confidence, and someone's outward appearance can change a lot about how they're perceived to individuals or the general public.

It doesn't even have to be for an ugly to pretty transformation - simply changing the shape of your eyebrows, dyeing your hair, interchanging between glasses and contacts - can all give a different 'feel' to a person. You can look 'stronger', more laid back, etc. And of course, make up can do a lot.

Yeah, she's not ugly. But she could certainly make an effort with her personal appearance and grooming.

No one is asking her to do plastic surgery or spend a fortune changing her features, but she could do better than wear a shoe whose soles are about to come off, or all those ugly sweat shirts and jeans that don't really fit well.

If she's in the office she should dress appropriately no matter what her income is. Especially when working for a fashion industry. She's been told off twice about it by her bosses boss. I don't believe you need to spend a large sum of money to look good. But if Hye Jin takes better care with her personal appearance, she'll grow more confident and people around her will respect her a lot more.

Also, she needs to perfect the act of saying NO. Especially to that petty admin assistant that keeps dumping most of her work on Hye Jin and skims by just looking pretty. It honestly pisses. me. off.

But old film scene you quote doesn't have any real parallel to this drama at all (other than the fact that they both have makeovers). Bushy-haired, rosy cheeked and un-trendy Hye-jin is not anymore the "real" Hye-jin than the 12 year old Hye-jin who hated the rain because they ruined her hair treatments and was always dolled-up.

Her makeover to me is a part of her return to loving herself, IMO, because part of the reason she didn't take care of her appearance like she used to was that she seemed to think she was immutably ugly (the other reason is obviously a lack of $$$).

+1 to everyone's comments here. I don't need some complete transformation of Hye Jin because I think her personality shines through regardless. I don't even mind her wardrobe because it akes her look sunny. However, I totally support her straightening her hair and applying some makeup to lighten her red cheeks (which would give her a very cute blush). I hope that when she does get her "makeover" she stays the same anyway. Her personality is too precious.

The scene where SJ and HJ sat down and talked until the restaurant closed was so precious. I love moments like those.

And HR is just...*sigh* she's pissing me off. And I was so sympathetic over her in earlier episodes. I just, don't see why she would risk her long friendship with HJ over SJ. I mean, if she was open about it, that would be okay with me, but she kept lying to both and it's not like she looks happy about the relationship. I mean, she looks like she's feeling the weight of guilt and unhappiness more and more as she kept lying to HJ and SJ.

And what is the purpose of her hanging on to SJ anyway when she knows that she's not the one he cares for. It's kind of obvious how insecure she is, that she has no self-worth personality-wise that she can accept being in a relationship like that. I would have too much pride to hang on to SJ if I was in her case. I know I'd deserve to be loved for who I am.

But considering her family, maybe that's her case, that she has no self-worth. But it's obvious that HJ's family has taken her in so, that's not much of an excuse.

Which is ironic because HJ, despite people looking down on her because she's *cough* ugly, has self-worth and pride. She accepts herself and knows her worth and is not afraid of putting herself out there.

SH is my puppy. It's like he didn't really realize his feelings and it wasn't only until he felt jealousy that he realized what his feelings was. But is it really romantic though?

I just realized Seul is Eun-hee. What a polar opposite role from that in OMG.

I don't know what Ha Ri is thinking bit she must surely know this won't end well. Maybe if he was actually falling for her (which would probably happen in an alternate universe where she's the female lead), but he clearly isn't.

This episode had me smiling and grinning soo much!! I loved (most of) it. I am getting VERY frustrated with Ha-ri, though. This whole thing is getting me very impatient and I just wish someone would confess something already.

Gah, I hate when you watch rom-coms and you KNOW the two leads will be together but it takes so long and all the conflict makes you go crazy. Just give me the cute!!

But then there would be no drama, I guess, haha.

I think the transformation is needed, lbr appearance is people 1st impression, not to be drop dead georgeous lady but at least someone who is look aftrr herself and neat, it's wasn't a out being beauty insode a d outside but understanding your value, hye jin after being ppor and can't afford nice cloth doesn't believe in appearance, that's why she neglected her appearance with thinking only what inside is matter, also think fashion is just for show. People who just meet us has no way to judge us if not for appearance, being look tidy and neat give rrsponsible impression which may lead to better work improvent, esp when what hye jin need are simple care for her hair (doesn't have to be straight) and skin care-i hope she can afford it

I guess I was the only one who cheered when Shin Hyuk showed up (which, btw, I knew he would, cause it's one of those drama laws). I want to prolong the time Seo-Joon doesn't know the truth, so that he will truly like Hye Jin for who she is in the present.
Of course, the more the big reveal is delayed, the bigger the ensuing angst (another drama law). Oh well.

On a side note, Drama Gods, please give Si Won leading role in some awesome production!

Did you guys not notice that the roadside restaurant ahjumma is played by the actress who is also the EDITOR IN CHIEF?? I guess dropping the Italian catchphrases and wacky hair made her unrecognizable.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I don't have a problem with the plot. I don't need more than they're giving us. Structurally speaking, the show is about the relationship dynamics and nothing else. Everyone has had some traumatic experiences that shaped who they are we are still learning them but it's not like KMHM where we were trying to figure out which of the twins was secretly Jisung's step-sibling and the "rightful" heir. We're just slowly learning the characters's stories and what drives them. For me, it's fine. The acting is great, everyone is delivering all those cute and dramatic moments and the comedy is quite good. (Maybe a tad over the top initially but it's fine now.) The workplace situation is just enough to give them some playing field; initially I got a strong Ugly Betty vibe from it and I still do but they're not working that angle to death the way a 26 episode open-ended US show would. We're seeing our heroine's competence and that this is actually a job she does well and everyone is slowly clocking to it.

I don't think your in the minority at all. personally, the plot may not be moving very quickly but there aren't a ton of plot holes or inconsistencies. The show relies on its characters to pull the show together and give it life. Its doing what it set out to do well and much better than was expected.

I agree with you about the plot. I like the pace it's going. It's predictable, but as long as I'm getting the emotional beats, I'm satisfied.

A great drama has a steady plot and interesting character developments. Good dramas have one or the other. The terrible ones have neither. I love the characters here, and that's why I'm watching it. I'm with Hye-jin all the way.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think sung joon really needs to apologize to anyone. It would be nice if he did, but have you ever worked with people who seem like they should be more competent than they are? Work with teens, and then maybe you'll understand. I mean, it's not like the Most team sucks--and Sung Joon knows something they don't know (that the magazine will close)--but to him, they should be trying harder and they just aren't doing what he wants them to do.

Also, he's a moody bitch. But I don't think that's unforgivable, just annoying.

As for Hye Jin...she really DID suck at her job around him. All. The. Time. Like, the worker in me got annoyed with her, too, like WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT? WHY ARE YOU SAYING YOU WILL DO THAT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Yelling at someone who fails at her job no matter how hard she tries is valid if you're not her immediate boss. The immediate boss is the one who's supposed to be like "Let's make you better, together."

Point is, he's a shitty boss when it comes to morale and making people enjoy the workplace, but he's not a shitty person. I don't think he has to apologize for that, because even though he's bad at cheerleading, he's good at making executive decisions and keeping the team on his toes.

Yeah, I think the criticism against SJ is a bit harsh at times. His big freak out in Ep 8 was not purposefully malicious to me or surprising, seeing the emotional turmoil this Ha-ri/Hye-jin dance is putting him through upon the stress of handling a failing magazine and sometimes senseless employees.

Totally agree it's really sad how this lie is actually causing him some serious mental stress, the girls really need to come clean because it's not fair to do this to someone. Tbh although it was Hye Jin's idea it's Ha-ri's fault for carrying the lie on to such an extent.

+1 Yes. However, although I'm willing to be understanding of his behavior towards our heroine, as a viewer it stings. Still, I believe that rather than seeing him as being a terrible person, one has to asses what he's going through and why he'd be the way he is. There's just so much going on. We can't dismiss the outside pressure, psychological trauma, confusion and conflict brought on by the identity lie or the fact that he seems to not be eating properly. He is actually a pretty complex character like the other leads.

actually, yeah you bring up a good point about the mental disabilities comment, I would probably report a boss for something like that. She was doing horribly at her job (as usual), but that was definitely crossing the line. Hands down the worse thing he's said.

But, at the same time, I think it crosses the line to me more because of the political wrongness of it all? Like, to him it's just an insult, but to me there's even more political feelings attached and history attached so he thinks he's on level 4 but to me that's a level 9. Not excusing him, I just think he's sometimes an interesting character to dissect.

I agree. My acceptance of his character doesn't depend on whether or not he gives an apology. Humans do things differently. Apologies, for me personally, have no effect when it comes to larger incidents. I'll say sorry for little things and I'll accept them for little things. But if someone's going to cross me in a hurtful way, apologies won't matter. They need to show, rather than say, that they're sorry.

Sung-joon's made up for his assery in his own way by doing nice things for her. I don't think we need to put him in the stockade.

I don;t know why people have so much pressure and exoectation that sung joon should be a special perfect person when they also want a character flaw,
The bad things about sung joon is he is a shitty boss, a boss with comment that rip you when you did a bad job but make the company keep going, whether you like it or not,

They care with their own way and that kind of boss exist, tough boss, at least he didn't make unneeded circumstances for his own purpose

I loved this episode so, so, so, so much. Seung Joon falling for Hye Jin is literally the cutest thing I have ever seen, I haven't felt this swoony about a male lead pining since Han Gyul in Coffee Prince <33

He's just so ADORABLE with her, my heart. I knew Seung Joon's grin around her was going to be a factor back when the Editor took that picture and said 'it's the first time I've seen your pretty smile!' but I didn't know it would be this glorious wow. His face literally /lights up/.

And Seung Joon's jealousy WOW, that was so satisfying to watch X'D the way he called Shin Hyuk SLEAZY pfffff.

I'm starting to think that Seung Joon's mean side, or temper as it were, only comes out when he's under emotional stress. The way he sniped that Hye Jin specialised in pretending to be close to others sounded incredibly defensive and passive aggressive, and I think it hints at him having some anger management issues. He gets emotionally shake up by Shin Hyuk acting so close to Hye Jin, and instead of trying to stake a claim on her or get her away from him, his reaction is pure anger. Anger at Hye Jin, anger at Shin Hyuk, sniping at her, and hitting him on the head.

I don't know if they plan to give it any attention, or to have him try and tackle his temper, but I'm very interested in it tbh, because this is the first time I've seen a male lead with such a short fuse.

I don't blame him for it though, after seeing those horrible flashbacks in the US. I don't even want to think about little Seung Joon stuck in a foreign country full of bullies and waiting desperately for more letters from his only friend, his only solace, only for them to never come. T-T

Also though...SHIN HYUK, YOU LIARRRRRR. I /knew/ it felt fishy when he suddenly said his little sister had died that ep, I //KNEW// IT, IT ANNOYED ME SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE IT FELT LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO MANIPULATE HER PITY AND I WAS /////RIGHT///// SHIN HYUK YOU ASS.

I love him though, I do. But, like Hye Jin, I get fed up when he takes the jokes too far. Sister revelation aside, I was so happy with him this ep, first because it was really adorable to see him realise he may like Hye Jin, and second because his 'oh shit' when he figured everything out CRACKED ME UP. I was like 'yes son, you gave very bad advice last ep but you can make up for it now'.

And..........Ha Ri. The less I say about her the better at this point tbh I'm just booking out from frustration with her. I do however find it incredibly telling how taken aback he was at Ha Ri wanting to make things clear, and how he was about as responsive as a dead fish to that kiss. Seung Joon's loyalty may make him try to hold on for "Hye Jin"'s sake, but his heart has looooooong booked out of this relationship, if it was ever there (outside of memories) to begin with.

You so get me although I didn't give the dead sister revelation much thought when Shin Hyuk said it some episodes back. I like Shin Hyuk but I totally feel the romantic chemistry between the leads. Honestly, Hari can have Sung Joon, he's wasted on Hye Jin. When that boy is mad, boy is he mean! I know he's the lead and all, but I can't like him because he's just too damn wooden!

> Typical. I wish SH had no romantic feeling for HJ. I just could not relate anything. He's too funny to feel broken hearted and I found the scene he ran at night after finding the HJ's pictures on SJ's camera was unnecessary.

> By the way, do we really have two amore mio ladies here??? Lol

> HR, I forgave you for stealing that puzzle piece but kissing your best friend's supposed-to-be guy is just too much.

> An unresponsive peck on the lips could lead to something if only there is no something else. But, SJ's spending-time-with-HJ memories made him hesitate to respond HR's kiss. What a relief!

> About the plot, ehm, yeah I just keep reminding myself that I'm here for entertainment and to enjoy the show. Sigh..

> And I do really hope SJ will confess at least a tiny part of his feelings towards HJ before she gets a makeover. At least, it's not the appearance which matters when it comes to love, but something more precious within... (but, ah, seem you already know that's not going to happen, ups!)

Wouldn't it be great if Seung Joon was the one to say, "I actually liked your previous look more"? I think we all expect that from Shin Hyuk but what if it came from Seung Joon? He's already in love with her, so the makeover shouldn't even be a big deal! I feel like the makeover is more for herself. We always try to improve ourselves in every aspect, and she's already grown so much professionally, that she felt like now she had to change her appearance to match that growth.

That's how I see the makeover anyway. I wish she hadn't changed so much (straight hair, okay, but the pink cheeks should've stayed), but as long she's still Hye-jin shining through, it really doesn't matter.

I agree with everyone here who's of opinion that Hye jin does NOT need a make over! Girl has great hair and the permanent blush is charming. She needs to be confident and self-assured of her great personality and ability, and a new wardrobe to match her great skills in the job. (pass those mom jeans to Answer Me 1988 ;-)). When her colleague gave her the suitcase for the trip I totally expected JH to change in some head turning outfit that would make Seong-joong see her with lusty eyes. LOL. BUT man I'm glad they didn't go that route!
With that being said, I'm liking the direction the drama is taking, Seong-joon might have shown a petty, shitty personality towards intern JH, now that he's getting to know her he sees this girl who doesn't look remotely close like his old friend is a great person inside that clicks with his. Puberty can change outer appearance, but what's inside can't be moved. So, show, just like SJ is a head turning hottie as an adult, let's be more accepting of HJ's less doll-like looks- leave those in her childhood. They could be like her parents, they're so lovely, wish they had more screen time!

I'm so over HR, she completes the worst rectangle possible that's sacrificing our fave orabeoni. GRUMP

I don't know why but I was against watching this drama. Maybe it was the whole "she was pretty/he wasn't and now the roles have changed. mwhahaha" branding but with all of my dramas ending, I finally decided to watch it and ended up spending the past two days catching up and hitting refresh on dramabeans to read the recap.

I did not expect this to be as funny and charming as it is. Sure, I can't deal with the screeching, whiplash bowing Hye Jin but I'm on board with her friendship with Hari, her clumsiness overshadowing her eagerness and productivity and the many goofy faces of Siwon Choi - who I didn't know about before.

I was howling at the Rubik's Cube scene where SungJoon pretends he can match all the colors than throws it on the table a jumbled mess claiming it was broken and thinking back to Shin Hyuk's puppy mask for HyeJin after we find out his sister was of the canine variety. So many hysterical scenes that come out of nowhere and are just naturally funny wo relying on schtick and all I can say is that I LIVE for Shin Hyuk's dopey faces during the Most creative meetings. It sums up the perfect office buddy who can relay all the joy you're both feeling with a single eyebrow raise at hearing that Friday is going to be an unexpected half day.

This is a soju game. Sake if you must.

Single "Panty!" One shot

Double "Panty, Panty!" Two shots

If one character says "Panty" and the other character also follows with "Panty", double the shots: i.e. "Panty, Panty!" followed by "Panty!" is 6 shots total!

If there are three sentences in a row with "Panty!" dialogue, call an ambulance, because you'll need to redouble: "Panty, Panty!" followed by "Panty!" and then another "Panty!" becomes 4 X 2 X 2 = 16 shots. Best to have drinking snacks during this game to take the edge off.

If a character shows their "panties" then you need to chug a whole mini soju / sake bottle.

By the end you'll be as charming as a drunken Hye-Jin and have cheeks just as rosy as well!

This was a funny episode. I enjoyed watching it. I like the characters' cute interactions and lovely moments so much that they make up for the little plot that is holding this drama together. It'd be nice to delve into why HJ is the way she is today, or SJ's background, or SH's mysterious past, but it seems like the show is wasting too much air time on Hari's sob story (I used to like her but her recent behavior has really turned me off). Hari is just not a good friend to HJ, and the fallout when the truth is revealed is going to be heartbreaking. I'm new to Siwon's acting, and am surprised to find that he's actually quite good! Looking forward to next week's episodes!

HJ and SJ were so cute this ep. Can I say, perfect for each other? If you weren't convinced before, this will make it hard not to feel something. I know Si Won is very popular but I'm not enamoured by him. SH just seems to be more of a friend than a love interest to me. It would have been different if the two leads didn't have chemistry together or SJ was a complete jerk all the time but its not like that. I like who SJ can be and is when he let's himself just be happy.

Unfortunately, Seung Joon has this mean temperament that makes it difficult to know that he can be kind and considerate. I hope he starts to be more reasonable. But then, I've noticed that he seems to close up and return to square one when Ha Ri pushes him to pay her more attention and she totally confuses him because she is just so different from the Hye Jin he knew.

Speaking of Ha Ri: as much as I understand where she is coming from and DON’T hate her, I strongly remain convinced that she is being very unreasonable in her expectations towards Seung Joon. She has allowed herself to fall deeper into a very potentially dangerous situation. We can always argue about who should take responsibility for the current situation BUT she is responsible for perpetuating her side of the lie.

HR can also be quite confusing. She EXPECTS SJ to like her and like her for who she really is, when he does NOT really know her. And she gets upset when he recalls his memories with Hye Jin when in reality, she IS Hye Jin to him. Understandably, he can't be expected to not mention Hye Jin because he thinks that's who Ha Ri is. When you think of everything in totality, her behavior is logical but she is demanding something he can't give her. I’m sorry to say he’ll never love her as Ha Ri.

I absolutely loved him in Kill Me, Heal Me even though I wasn't rooting for him and all my squeeing went to Ji Sung. Someone needs to up his A-game! Park Seo Joon had some stimulating mystery in Kill Me Heal Me that he lacks as a lead in this drama. I don't know, it's just not working for me. Maybe it's the skipping trousers, or the court shoes and just his expressions. He seems to have all the color and life drained out of him. I don't know. Maybe I'm comparing him too unfairly to the more exuberant characters (Hye Jin, Shin Hyuk).

I just want him to be the hero he needs to be. Even if I don't have to like him, he has to come across macho at least!! That said, awesome recap and I love this show!!

I like that he's not "macho." And every comedy needs that straight man who may not be flashy or outrageous but reacts to characters like we would in real life. I agree that he does pale in comparison next to the bigger personalities, but I enjoy watching his subtlety and the quiet moments he portrays as much as (or even more than) the laugh-out-loud moments.

I just want him to be less of a jerk, is what I mean by 'macho'. Such as when you like a girl, you just tell her so (like Shin Hyuk) and not act mean when some other guy is all over her. PSJ's character is KMHM was far more mature in attitude and that's why he impacted so many fans then.

I am sooooo in like with the kdrama, that it is almost toooo much! Could this episode be any more enjoyable? The time alone for Hye Jin and Seung Joon was just the greatest. While, along with all the other viewers I can to a degree understand Ha Ri and some of her machinations, she now is leaning towards the desperate? She has almost anything she could want, but the stability and unquestioning love Hey Jin has. So she feels correct in taking this away from a friend who gives it to her at this level, that needs this to help her (Hey Jin) feel this value from the outside world. Naughty - Naiughty little girl!!

I so love this drama! Best episode ever! (except for the very end) I think this will probably end up being my favorite episode. I have not laughed out loud this much for a kdrama ever. Honorable mentions: Siwon is a scene stealer. He makes me laugh so much. The actress who plays Director Kim/restaurant ajumma is hilarious. Seon Joon is getting more swoon worthy in this ep. (Is it bad that he was in my dreams last night? :D Omo! ) And Hye Jin is just flat out cute! Her smile lights up the room. On the subject of smiles, oh Seon Joon, your smile when you think about Hye Jin, or when you're listening to her and suddenly stop when you realize what you are doing....sigh.... anyways love it!. First time I watched an episode raw, felt like I understood for the most part (not even knowing korean), and died laughing. The acting is so great. Then watched it again with subs and laughing with tears coming to my eyes. I enjoyed the bond that SJ and HJ developed during the trip, though from the ending and previews it looks like it will be short lived. :(.

I've come to realize that Seong Joon closes up around Hye Jin whenever he thinks bout Ha Ri/Hye Jin because he thinks that he probably shouldn't be having any feelings for Hye Jin. Its stressing him out and its stressing me out. AND its only a show! Why am I letting Ha Ri's decisions get to me? Can anyone else relate to me?

Seong Joon doesn't just blow up on Hye Jin for no reason. His behavior is most likely the culmination of all the pressure, confusion and conflicting feelings. I honestly understand why he is the way he is. It doesn't excuse him but it explains his behavior.

@ Camille
I feel ya Camille! Totally agree! She stresses me out too, because she is FULLY taking advantage of his need/desire to reconnect with his first Love. I believe that SJ feels indebted to Hye Jin and wants to be there for her the same way that she was there for him. I don't doubt that he probably was in love with her, and still is (to the past), but is seriously confused because he doesn't feel an ounce of connection to this pretty girl who says she is HJ and has the puzzle piece to prove it, and this connection and feelings for a girl of the same name who by outside appearances he thinks is someone else but has all of the quirks and actions of his real love. All of this angers him because he feels he shouldn't feel this way towards any other than this lady who says she Hye Jin. So he takes it out on the real one, in a sense, blaming her for his inner conflict. ......when HaRi asked about his feelings, he couldn't even answer right away, because he's so confused. I kinda feel that it (his feelings or what he is trying to make himself feel for her) is obligatory at this point, and he feels guilty for that, so who else to take it out on - the one who is causing all of the complications. It's almost as if he were thinking "if you weren't here, or I never met you, then I could stay true to (who I think is) my first Love even if her personality is different. ....YES, HaRi stresses me out. ....Sorry for the long reply, I got on a roll. ;)

No, don't be sorry! You totally get me. Its like Hye Jin is the one who feels the brunt of Ha Ri's actions when she confuses Seong Joon. I'm so over Ha Ri at this point. I want to feel sorry for her but my pity is wasted on her because she is being illogical. But if Hye Jin comes clean about who she is then this mess would be solved since Ha Ri won't be able to do it on her own.

Another amazing episode! Thanks a bunch, LollyPip, for your recaps!!

So many moments of cuteness and absolute hilarity---especially the farm scene with SJ and his "Primo Donald" behavior after falling in the cow dung!!

His hollering outdid HJ's...and we know very well how "loud and screechy" she can be when startled and upset!

Love, loved to bits SH's "mirror moments"!! I keeled over laughing so loud and hard until tears started pouring down my cheeks. He is such a comic talent---the facial expressions...that cheeky wink at himself in the mirror totally bowled me over!!

HJ is quite photogenic...the photos SJ took of her showed how lovely, composed and serene she can be in sweet'n quiet moments.

I hope WHEN she gets made-over, it'll be subtle and not overly done. Her hair is fine curly and those rosy cheeks can be tamed down with make-up. Her eyes are wonderful as they are---no goopy liner please! and her smile, when happy and delighted is gorgeous!

I think that it basically comes down to her attire---she simply needs to update her wardrobe...get away from such frumpy, Mom pants and misshapen tops and sweaters...

Even as she's financially limited with getting new clothes, Hey! Her best gal and housemate is a fashionista---I'm certain HR will generously open her closet if HJ asks!!
