Drama viewership ratings for the week of Dec. 28, 2015–Jan. 3, 2016

The past week was an atypical one, with many of the usual dramas being pre-empted for the Big 3 broadcasters’ many year-end ceremonies — we had the Drama Awards, of course, as well as the Entertainment Awards and music festivals. Most of the Monday-Tuesday dramas aired as usual, except for Tuesday’s Dazzling Temptation episode, which was pre-empted.
Having all the special broadcasts this week means that the regular drama-related competition gets put on hold. Of course, the broadcasters will use any occasion to compete and claim superiority over each other, and we can look at the awards ceremonies’ ratings numbers as a general indication of which events audiences were most interested in, whether it’s because of the dramas they wanted to see awarded, or the stars we all wanted see decked out in their glittering fashions.
Wednesday’s three ceremonies were all of different natures — one drama, one entertainment, one music — and therefore a bit like comparing apples to oranges to pineapples, but in any case MBC came out on top with their Drama Awards. On Thursday, SBS’s Drama Awards edged out KBS’s, which in turn outperformed MBC’s Gayo Daejejeon. Or, if we translate that to Daesang winners, Ji Sung in Kill Me, Heal Me beat out Joo-won in Yong-pal, who beat out the divided honor shared between Kim Soo-hyun in The Producers and Go Doo-shim in Please, Mom. It’s a totally unscientific, irregular comparison, but offhand I’d say it sounds about right to me.

That's a pretty good start. Deong Do Jeon started off at 11.6% too and peak at 19.8%.

Oh My Venus got over 10% several times, Unkind Women had all episodes >10% except Episode 1. King's Face pulled 10% in the last episode. The Producer aired on Fri-Sat, so don't know whether to consider it weekly or weekend drama, but they were great in ratings.
I am looking only at AGB Nielsen and Seoul ratings, because if we look at TNmS Nationwide, Healer would have zero episodes over 10%:D

Unkind Women topped its time slot in Feb-March 2016 and was clocking ratings in the 12 percent range.
But KBS' Monday-Tuesday dramas haven't won the time slot battle in a long time, the last drama that even came close to it was Big Man in 2014.

Watched it on dramacool. Liked the first two eps. Was shocked to see Lee Ji-hoon as the bad guy (after I was so impressed by his awesome singing in the King of mask singer). lol

The Answer Me behind the scenes special that aired on Saturday got ratings of 7.002%. That's crazy high but not surprising since everyone and their grandparents are watching it.

My fav? Watching Ryu Joon-yeol and Park Bo-gum laughing together and all, Ra Mi-ran(JH's mom) says ' At this rate, I wonder Duk-sun could be dumped and Jung-hwan and Taek will date'.

Let's see how cheese in the trap will fare..i'll be very happy if it gets at least half of the ratings reply 1988 got..can't believe it will start today! hope it will turn to be good for PHJ and the cast.
As for the other dramas. probably this week remember continues to lead the time slot as for mon-thu it's no question and i do expect that after OMV is over the ratings at KBS will drop (sorry not expecting something big from moorim school). tho i wonder how much the last episodes of OMV will get.
Count me in with jang young shil. i dnn't really have time for saeguk but i'm curious about it. too bad the subbing will take forever since it is not aired in the weekdays..

Despite of lowest rating, IHAL team managed to bring home 6 awards on SBS Drama Award. :)
Despite of highest rating, Geum Sa Wol really takes forever to be subbed. The latest episode which was subbed was epi 30. Fortunately, im not following every week. I shall wait until it reached epi 40 so can marathon it at once.

Why do people say that weekend dramas tend to have low rating? I saw high rating for weekend dramas here, even up to 30%?

Family (weekend) dramas usually have high ratings. But mini-series have not had high ratings (like Spy). Then again Producer did good -maybe depends on the shows?

So Koreans tend to like weekend family dramas that they got higher ratings than weekdays drama? I always thought some dramas that gather a lot of attention such as Reply 88 or OMV are gonna get higher/st rating, now I know it's not like that.
I asked this because in another comment section in DB, people wrote that weekend dramas are boring and usually have low ratings. DB doesn't do recap for the currently airing weekend dramas, nor do I heard/read any buzz about the dramas, that I assumed those statements were true. Sorry weekend drama :)

Weekend dramas has never been that popular here unless it's those rare ones by tvn like "The Three Musketeers","Ghostess" and the "Answer Me" series.
Weekend family dramas tend to go on forever and no one has the time to follow 100+ eps dramas.

Weekend family dramas normally 50-60 epi which for me still can be followed. But daily drama always more than 100++ episode.

They've cut down to the 50s and 60s in the past couple years but it used to be over 100+ eps. Sageuks could go as long as 300+ episodes.

I have been following weekend drama for few years, and there are some weekend dramas that I really love.
Weekend dramas always been surrounding on family, so more or less the sorry is similar.
Even at the moment, I am following weekend dramas and I Have A lover is the one that I love so much. [you can see it on my name;) ]

I feel so sad that Oh My Venus isn't getting as high ratings as the others. It's a very lighthearted rom-com which fits me just fine. I can do without the drama in a lot of these k-dramas lol...can't wait to watch the last two eps this week. Ep 15 starting in 20 minutes here in S. Korea!! ^^

:). Sadly it's going to be the same as Jeong Do Jeon. KBS will only release 1 eps subbed. Viki will either buy the rights to sub it or we will have to buy the dvds in the end if we want to watch it that bad.

That's what I'm saying. They are weekend dramas that people said as boring, not popular, low rating and such..but then their rating is actually beat up all weekdays drama's rating. I am tempted to start watching the weekend drama because of this rating thing, to see why it's a contradictive fact between people's opinion vs the high rating it got.
