Kim Ji-hoon joins The Man Living in Our House as Su Ae’s boyfriend

Aw, Kim Ji-hoon (Jang Bori Is Here) is reuniting with the writer of Flower Boy Next Door — he’s signed on to join her new drama, the upcoming KBS rom-com The Man Living in Our House. I loved him in that quirky series as the shy artist neighbor with no game, and it’s a nice surprise to have him join this new project, since this is also the second drama that writer Kim Eun-jung is adapting from webtoon artist Yoo Hyun-sook’s work.

The series stars Su Ae (Mask) as a prickly flight attendant with a bit of a temper, and Kim Young-kwang (D-Day) as the younger man claiming to be the stepfather who married her mom before she died. He’s a reformed gangster-turned-farmer, and she sets out to prove that he’s a conman with nefarious intentions. Lee Soo-hyuk (Lucky Romance) and Jo Boa (Monster) are the rivals — he’s a wealthy man who only believes in the power of money, and she’s a poor woman who lies to hide her poverty.

Kim Ji-hoon’s role won’t be very big, but it will be pivotal to Su Ae’s character, because he’ll play her boyfriend of nine years whom she expects to marry any day now. He’s described as a successful man who works for a foreign investment firm, and appears on the surface to be first-rate husband material. But in actuality he’s a timid, weak-willed man who is debilitatingly indecisive. I’m already picturing the hilarity that will ensue, thanks to Kim Ji-hoon’s quirks.

He’ll be a character who incites anger and changes the course of the heroine’s life, because he’ll cheat on her and break their promise to marry, sending her into a spiral of depression. It’s part of the reason why she heads back to her hometown, which is where she has to deal with her new stepfather the farmer-conman. So, not a happy role, but I fully expect him to be fun to hate in a really entertaining way.

The Man Living in Our House follows Moonlight Drawn By Clouds on Monday-Tuesday beginning in late October.

Javabeans and girlfriday, I just want to say I've been experiencing a lot of "ad hijacking" where all I'm doing is being on your website on my phone, not tapping/clicking anywhere and it would take me to another ad page or app store. This occurs occasionally on some sites but it happens here very often. Maybe you can pass the words along to your ad people and let them know their ad programs are easily hacked and to do something about it.

Yup the same thing happens to me all the time.

Same here. It doesn't happen on my phone as much as it does when I'm using the laptop. Other websites do occasionally re-direct but on dramabeans it is so frequent I keep clicking the back button 3-4 times while trying to read a recap.

Same here!!! It's very annoying and it only seems to be happening in this site

It's because of the blog site. Adblock is your friend. unfortunately the free version doesn't quite work on mobile phones, it's worth it, though, to pay because those ads are not only annoying but also bring damage to your device.

Why the hell isn't he the lead?? KJH is amazing, what does that guy have over him. I'm already depressed as it is (thanks W).

Agreed. I really like him (I remember some daily drama long ago where he co-stared with Jo Yeo-jung and he fell for her real -heh). Did I read he was depressed with all these new flower boys popping up. Fighting!

So did they become an item or it wasn't reciprocated? They look gorgeous together, hope they will pair up again but this time in a more serious, dark theme.

The lead is supposed to be younger than even Soo Ae's character, I believe. Therefore creating incentive for her character's suspicions.

Nah. With that baby face he can play a character as young as twenty.

Um...I disagree. He certainly does look younger than his 35 years but not as young as 20.

I KNOW. Honestly? This casting situation just sucks for me. I haven't seen Kim Ji-hoon in ages, and it has to be in this sort of role? What a bummer.

I totally agree with you. It is depressing to see Kim Ji-Hoon and Lee Soo-Hyuk in supporting roles and to see Kim Young-kwang as the lead. How can that be? The lead is a mediocre actor, who lacks screen presence. How did they get to choose him?

KJH fans should definitely watch "Joseon X-Files" (if they haven't already) - which was one of the early tvN shows which garnered attention and critical acclaim (and he plays the lead!).

Still (in my book) the best written, acted and filmed K-drama.

KJH also looks better w/ the Joseon mane than w/ a short, modern cut (not that he looks bad that way either).

@bd5, You beat me to it. I was just about to say that I remember KJH most for his performance in JOSEON X-FILES, and that his stint in Flower Boys was not indicative of his potential.

I'm sad he's relegated to second lead status... WHY??? And where has he been??? I'm glad that he's back, too, of course. Anyone who's seen him in JXF would argue he ought to be more popular. In that drama, I couldn't shake off the resemblance with Leslie Cheung.. He was so charismatic in a boyish sort of way, this poster doesn't show it at all.

Even if it is obscure, or cable, he should try to get out there more! He definitely has fans. He need a new manager!

He's back! The news for this drama just keeps getting better and better.

The boyfriend who is meant to propose but ends up with another reminds me of Personal Taste. I loved Kim Ji Suk that role. I expect to love KJH even more here.

It's so stange when after 'Jang Bo Ri' he will cast to be supporting roles.
Why don't cast him to be the main lead. Acting of Kim Young Kwang never better after lof of dramas, he should stick to supporting roles.

When I saw this, I realized that it has been a long time since I have seen Kim Ji-Hoon. What a treat to see him again. Even in rom-com, working with the material that he is offered, he builds lovely, complex characters.

I think there's a lot of potential for Su Ae + Kim Jihoon pairing, if only the premise doesn't require a much younger guy. KJH's hilarity would raise the roof. I haven't seen Su Aae in a comedy but it won't be a problem for a talented actress like her :)

Groan. Now I have to watch at least the first episode of this. Lead guy wouldn't have much screen time yet since it'll be setup for the lead actress, right? Not a fan of hers either, but I'll watch for Kim Jihoon.

This drama sounds a little like the Japanese movie Otoko no Isshou (except there it's a much older man). Guess since the K-drama is based on a webtoon, its all part of the girl returns home and ends up finding a man with a murky past genre :)

Awww I wanted him as the lead. I went to search up his age and Su Ae's age. He's younger than her by one year or so. Why can't he play the main lead? I recalled that the one in the webtoon is around the female lead's age or younger.

I thought that he would end up with bigger roles after Jang Bo Ri. :(

I'm so happy to see him getting a role after such a long dry spell! But I agree, his post-military career is really depressing. I'm really curious what the story behind that is, whether it's incredibly bad management, he's been quietly blackballed, or some other reason.

Am also dissapointed with this news. I've been checking drama news on him once in a while and then this, just a small role. Hope he'll regain his leading man status even on weekend dramas. He's a versatile actor.
