Drama viewership ratings for the week of Oct. 24-30, 2016

There were a couple new premieres this week, starting with The Man Living in Our House, which replaced the slot previously occupied by Moonlight Drawn By Clouds. Despite Moonlight’s high ratings, viewers never seem tied to a certain timeslot or channel, but The Man still managed to take first with 10.6% in its even episode.

It’s nowhere near the hit that Moonlight was, but I’d say it’s a pretty good start. Without the sageuk competition, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo has finally climbed higher in the ratings, netting just a bit over 10% for its even episode. A far cry from the numbers it pulled in at the beginning of its run, that’s for sure.

In the middle of the week, Shopping King Louis overtook Jealousy Incarnate despite the latter show being closer to its end. I haven’t checked out Louis myself, but now I feel more inclined to, considering how well it’s doing.

And over on the weekend, This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair replaced the slot previously held by Fantastic, to about the same ratings as its predecessor. The K2 seems to be holding steady around the 5% mark at least, so the executives over at tvN must be quite happy.

Agree.

I cannot picture Louie other than Seo In Guk & Bok shil other than Nam Ji Hyun. These two chemistry selling the show. ?

I can't imagine another artiste portraying Louis too....SIG is simply awesome !! He not only put his acting into facial expression but also into his body language etc (including the animations and sound effect it is even more awesome!) (Y) (Y)
Now I feel that 16 episodes is too little ! Can we extend it to more episodes? :P

Does this mean he's officially broken the Reply curse as well?

there was never any curse, it´s just a media-born expression, not a phenomena

Required fields are marked *

Not yet. The curse refers to beating or matching the hype/popularity of the Reply series they starred in.

I don't think them calling it a curse is a bad thing. Like I explained before, IMO, the media calls it a curse because there's no logical explanation for their projects having low ratings. Otherwise they'd just say that "Reply alums ratings are tanking because they suck at acting." But the fact that they have to call it a curse means it's an unexplained bad luck, not a reflection of poor acting ability.

So thrilled too. it's such a good show and Seo In Guk is blowing it out of the park with his acting. It's great to see how it started slow but climbed up in ratings proving hard work does pay off!

Shopping King Louie - from dead last to first! Glad that it continues to rise.

Already watched episode 11, and I still want more of this program.

Great job to Seo In-guk, Nam Ji-hyun, Yoon Sang-hyun, Im Se-mi, their co-artists, Oh Ji-young writer-nim, Lee Sang Yeob director-nim, the whole cast and crew, and of course - MBC.

Well, how does SKL fare compared to W (which was consistent on the top spot)?

W is great but nearing the ending, the plot is rather confusing and no logic at all.....Note Spoilers: And I still don't quite understand how is he going to survive in the real world w/o any identity ?? It's like they NEED to have a happy ending .... being forced to have a happy ending for the couple....

There's a mix-up in the weekend ratings. Laurel Tree Tailors got 24.1%, and Blow Breeze got 11.2%.

1% of Anything also finally broke the 1% mark (tee hee), with its seventh episode getting 1.287% and making it to the daily top ten for cable. But, the rating for the next episode dipped to 0.936%.

Yep, beanie Kender lives in SK. She mentioned somewhere that it's around $10 to subscribe to that channel when there's not much else to watch (for a drama fan?). So you can imagine why that can affect viewers' decision to watch too.

Most Dramas went down compared last week. But I'm not surprised because most Koreans are tuned in to the news about their president's scandal

I'm satisfied with This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair's pilot week. I love the chemistry between the lead roles, and LSG is soooooo good in his character. :D

And thank goodness, The K2 isn't affected! Hooray!

Kind of wish I didn't because now I only have two episodes to watch. ;___; Sighhhh but yes, I have to agree with you--lots of chemistry and I love love love Lee Sang Yeob in his role. So freakin' adorable and BoA is doing quite well! Can't wait for next week. :D

I was surprised to see rating for Blow Breezee! Then I go checked, the number probably for Laurel Tree Tailors, right?

Who knows Flower In Prison will have how many episodes? Because I saw epi 48 and there is no way it could conclude at 50 epi, isn't it? I cannot wait to see Park Eun Bin in a new drama and there will be Lee Tae Hwan too ;)

Speaking of FIP, when I watched epi 48, i really love Seo Ha Joon! I can bear the mediocre acting of Jin Se Yeon if Seo Ha Joon is the main lead. He sure has little experience but god, he is far better than most of the other casts. i am sorry Go Soo oppa, you better don't do sageuk again. Wish SHJ will get more leading roles in the future. I really loved him and Yang Jin Sung in My Son In Law's Woman.

I don't know what other drama made me hook, aside from the recent completed Drinking Solo & FantastiC. I still like K2 simply because Song Yoon Ah.

Poor SBS. But think positively, they just have only one weekend drama, so they can let the big budget just like KBS instead.

Oh they probably are just showing it as filler. The broadcast rights were probably really cheap since it was online already so any rating is good enough.

I really don't know why SBS weekend dramas always too low, it's just like that viewers completely forget about SBS on weekend, they just want to watch KBS and MBC. (I really angry about KBS weekend drama, lowlest KBS weekend drama stills higher than 20% while SBS even can't reach 10% easily).

The multiple versions was a bit of a headache. I wish I'd found out about it earlier as I still can't find some of the earlier Korean aired episodes. Sometimes it was interesting to see what was used where as to story flow, but after a while it just melted down to trying to piece things together better in my head, which viewers shouldn't have to do. Two more double watched episodes to go! :D

Now, if they had done something like the international version was all from Soo's point of view, and the Korean was all from So's, that would have been fascinating! Yet that's not what they did.

I still cannot understand why anyone involved with Moon Lovers that had the power to make such choices thought they could cram the story involved down to 20 episodes. 24 would have been a stretch as it was, given how loathe they were to drop focus on other side stories in order to better adjust to the shorter format.

What a waste of talent and money to wind up with an overall mediocre show rather than produce at the very least a solidly good one. If more of the show was on the level of the petition in the rain scene episode, the entire production had the potential to be impressively amazing. Episodes like that showed the talent and potential was definitely there to carry throughout, which is all the more frustrating.

When the show got it right, it was wondrous. Sadly, they did too much in too little time. I still hold out hope that if/when this is released on DVD, they at least offer a version that does justice overall to what the show could have been out of what they filmed. If they manage to do that, I'll but that in a heartbeat if it comes out in a US format.

I always wonder why people think more episodes of ML equals with more quality result. The writing was a whack, more episodes only prolong the suffering.

Besides I've read somewhere when someone did a math of comparison of C and K version, the difference of the screentime wasn't that large, at least not as much as many portrayed since C version is 30 or 40 minute run compared to 60 min of the K version.

This is just my thinking (not saying everyone feels that way)

We had seen that they had lots of material filmed (Just by looking at the different versions.. Some had extra or lengthened scene, vice versa.. lets say each ep had a few mins of such extra scene in either version.. The whole drama could be re-edited & fit into one compiled version and possibly extend by 1-2ep to fit them all and could address all this discrepancy of multiple versions which led to a certain extent of inconsistency in interpretation & flow of the story between the versions.. (but of course, they were possibly unable to do so since they sold the show for same time international broadcast, so extreme changes cannot be taken.. cant be SBS 21/22 ep yet international stick to 20.. the pacing would be off and there's other factor too.. and probably thats why they could only add/remove/increase/shorten scenes for each ep to make it "better" yet not affecting the overall pace of the plot/story for each ep planned)

And i dont see why there is a need to compare the drama against the chinese version in terms of length (as in, its not suppose to be a 100% ripped off.. or they must cover every single content and pace it accordingly to the chinese version)

Of course, more ep doesnt mean that its necessarily good especially with the editing this drama had shown.. But at least we will get a "fuller package"?

I find the planning should be done better especialy its a pre-produced drama and they are selling for international broadcast (such last min editing that result to multiple versions should be a really big no-no..).. Like whether is 20 ep really enough and to review the number at every phase? And whether is the story developed? (like some audience find Jung relatively underdeveloped and especially at the later part, most of his scenes/actions were questionable or confusing due to missing parts or simply too rushed.. and some dont feel the connection after the many time skip (could more effort be placed in there? but of course, once again this could be limited by the number of episodes parameter in the first place..)

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I would love a "fuller" package too, with the cut scenes from the 2 versions put back into the final version, and maybe some of the cut scenes that did not make it into either version due to episode length, if they help to make a smoother story.

Agree that there is no necessity to compare to Chinese drama in terms of length since the content of the K version is not the same or duplicate of the Chinese version.

But to clarify, the difference in screen time is large, about 6.25 hours which is an additional 30%, and the C version is 45 min per episode.
