Yoo Seung-ho’s Ruler–Master of the Mask in talks to air on MBC in spring

I think this drama is still a ways off from finalizing its air date, but there’s a new update on the upcoming sageuk Ruler–Master of the Mask, the drama courting Yoo Seung-ho (Remember–Son’s War) to headline. It’s being considered for a Wednesday-Thursday slot in March on MBC, and though the official stance is that nothing’s been decided, it looks like MBC will be its home, because now PD Sohn Hyung-shik (Shine or Go Crazy, Two Weeks) on staff at MBC is attached to direct.
The new fusion sageuk stars Yoo Seung-ho as a crown prince in 18th-century Joseon, who fights a lonely war against a shadow organization. The powerless prince will go up against a secret group of the wealthy, powerful elite who move the country behind the scenes. When they attempt to take control of the water supply and privatize it, the prince will fight them on behalf of the people.
I haven’t seen many dramas take up plots like this, though Yoo Seung-ho’s last movie Kim Seon-dal was about a con artist who tried to sell a river, and Cha Tae-hyun’s sageuk comedy Gone With the Wind was a funny caper all about stealing ice and giving it back to the people, back when ice was a precious commodity. Those were comedies while this drama’s approach seems serious—the prince is said to become a hero because of love, and his war is described as lonely and righteous. Broody and badass Yoo Seung-ho fighting for his people? I could get used to that.
Ruler–Master of the Mask will begin shooting in December, and is currently being considered for a March broadcast on MBC.

I know, let's give the poor boy a break! He cries beautifully, however, but his crying always makes me cry, too, and I really don't need to feel emotionally broken every single episode.

can i once see him being fully happy -with- sunshine -smile and -happy- go- lucky type sweet , a bit cutesy dumbish type guy, without any dark past hauting him and making him miserable. Because i am soooo damn fed up with him crying in every drama i watch him in. He cries so much more than the female lead cry.

Having Yoo Seung Ho back on my screen is a big yes but having to stand and not be able to doanything for 16/20 of seeing him suffer will be killer for my heart...He really chooses sad paths for his drama roles,can't he get the girl and be all smiley,i know he doesn't like romantic stuff as much as tradgedy but hell,my heart can't help it anymore....Curious who is behind the script,the writer can break or shine a story just as much as the actors or maybe even more...Can't wait for the later updates regarding the cast,hope it will be a strong one...Really want powerful scenes and confrontations...Already anticipating the bad guys,who among the great actors will be his foe

YES! Finally, a Yoo Seung Ho drama I want to see! I had to drop Missing You, Remember & even the cat one. I just couldn't get into any of them at all. But this, THIS, I will be able to sink my teeth into! There is still nothing I love better than Yoo Seung Ho as a badass in a sageuk - even as a bad guy - in Warrior Baek Dong Soo. That is still my favorite roll of his after all this time.
So badass GOOD guy in a sageuk kicking butt and taking names! Heck yeah! 'Bout time!

So it s going to air at same time as King Loves with Siwan and Yoona? Cause that drama also start production in December and is supposed to air on MBC in March. I don't think MBC would have two sageuks at the same time.

This sounds interesting,.. but cannot it be half pre-produced.?
OK they can proceed with the pre-produced, but please have somebody to check all aspects including the editing ? i am fully support the idea of pre-produced because the actors and crews won't suffer too much restless nights like live shooting.
I like YSH and this guy always choose heavy roles. I am curious who will be his partner. Hope someone decent!

I've been a fan of Yoo Seung Ho for years now since I watch his movie with Kang So-ra. I had tons of crushes on different Korean/Hallyu stars (I know we all share the same feels, oh goodness, why are they all so handsome??), but YSH still remains as my ultimate bias!!!
I am so happy that he's finally given a somehow "pretty-boy" role and not his usual adult roles <3 DEFINITELY GONNA WATCH THIS.
