Castaways Jung Kyung-ho and Baek Jin-hee in Missing 9

What happens when your onscreen biases are stripped away from their army of stylists, makeup artists, and support staff? What happens when they are separated from civilization itself? Missing 9 makes a drama of variety show Law of the Jungle, except there’s no hope that the shoot will eventually end. Stills have been released of Jung Kyung-ho (One More Time Happy Ending), who stars as a has-been idol band leader who has hit rock bottom, and Baek Jin-hee (My Daughter Geum Sa-wol), who co-stars as his new stylist.

It all starts with the testimony of the only known survivor of a plane crash containing some of the top figures in the entertainment industry. The unexpected accident paralyzes the nation in fear for its most beloved celebrities. The survivor, played by Baek Jin-hee, holds the only key to the truth of their disappearance.

Her story begins with nine people becoming stranded when their plane crash-lands on an uninhabited island. Without social strictures or mores in place, heightened tension and stress cause them to slowly break down to reveal their core human natures. Jung Kyung-ho is set to show how his character, one down-on-his-luck diva, can transform into a determined, soulful leader in the face of hardship. It won’t be easy because all around him, a dark psychological battle for survival commences, while a thrilling mystery unfolds.

With Han Jung-hoon, the writer of Bad Guys and Police Unit 38 onboard, I’m sure each episode will keep me glued to the edge of my chair. MBC’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Missing 9 begins airing next January.

How messed up is it that I became 100% more excited for this show once we found out that people would die?

Side note: They better make the cast look like actual castaways on an island and not just some slightly-dirty pretty people that still have magical access to bb cream and eyeliner.

haha! Me too! Though I hope the deaths aren't frivolous. The only thing more frustrating than everyone surviving a life-threatening situation is a show killing off someone it hasn't made us care about.

But I also have to admit, because I am still very superficial, Jung Kyung-ho's hair color also raised my interest in this show. ^.^

Hahaha I thought the same thing. The moment it turned dark was when my interest was raised!

Honestly, I think I'm getting more bloodthirsty. I was disappointed when Hwarang's teasers didn't have more blood/emphasis on the WARRIOR part of Hwarang.

Maybe this drama will give me the bloodshed I'm craving.

Perhaps I should go back and watch dramas like Gaksital and White Christmas... lol.

Ditto re: side note. Let's hope that if any time lapses on the island, they'll let JKH's roots grow out. None of that, "This? Oh, you mean THIS particular shade of copper blond? Chuh. I was born with it."

MTE! Honestly I miss his natural color. I don't like the orange look on guys and all the bleaching makes their hair look crunchy... ?

You forgot shaver for them stubbles. I still can't get over DOTS where Joong-ki and Jin-Goo was held imprisoned for a year but their faces were still smooth af. I'm willing to see dirty Kyung-ho with some facial hair if we are going for realism.

Call me intrigued. This looks good. I hope it delivers on the suspense and mystery, wouldn't be surprised coming from the writer of Bad Guys. I hope it can deliver after all this show went through in order to finally make it to the small screen. I am getting Lost vibes sans the fantasy elements, which is a good thing in my book. I want this show to be some sort of light version of Lord of the Flies. Bring on the psychological games.

ahh. If they do go with a slight Lord of the Flies route...I wonder if their will be a Piggy..and will he die from a falling foam rock? Lol. The only thing I remember from the old movie version.

Well, dang, now I'm wishing Kang Haneul was also in this. Too bad they had that silly plot before when he was offered it.

This is really crazy because I originally thought this was supposed to be a comedy. Wow! If it's more drama and suspense then comedy I'm actually really happy because I have been dying to see Jung Kyung Ho get dramatic again (even if it is with ridiculous hair - AGAIN).

The complete 180 that this drama has done since it was announced earlier this year is amazing. And I'm definitely more excited now.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of commenters writing this drama off because of all the changes it went through + that initial bad rap it got for its idol castings. But I'm honestly really encouraged by how MBC seemed to take into account the negative feedback and adjusted accordingly. I wish more productions would do that. I'll definitely be checking this out now because the cast, writer, and premise seem much more promising.

Gotta say, I actually like that haircolor even if its not the prettiest. It definitely feels like a hair color someone would give an idol even if fans complain it doesnt fit lol

This drama seems very gripping. They gotta maintain the mystery well and engage the viewers.

So ready to see Jung Kyung-ho in an intense, challenging role.

If there really are some castaway deaths, it needs to be done well. I kinda hope JKH will survive and have a good ending though... Don't want the story to be too bleak.

I think they're not really dead but disappear from public. I doubt any writer would kill off not 1 but 8 cast members.. *unless it's sageuk*
But it looks promising since it becomes mystery thriller drama and I adore the leads too!

Could be. If the go "light" we could have people deciding to punt of the pressure of modern life and just stay on the island -- hide out when the rescuers come, or whatever.

Or they go dark with Rashomon-like reveals of how everyone really died, vs what the lone survivor says.

Either way, I've got to at least see episode 1.

Note to the producers of Hwarang: THIS is how you hype a show.

Also oh so excited for this show!! This is getting more interesting with every snippet of news or stills released.

Did they completely changed the script? I thought it was supposed to be a romantic drama/comedy. I was initially interested because of Kang Ha Neul attachment and lost interest when he was no longer on board. But with this new intriguing storyline, I'my interested again.

OK as soon as I saw the writer I was all in! It sounds amazing but an incompetent writer would easily make a big mess of this type if plot.

Now I see why JKH signed up for this. Sorry I doubted you, Sir!

I guess Jung Kyung-Ho's character should NEVER take the plane. Here's a summary of one of his movies taken from Asianwiki - tho I've never watched the movie:

"In the comedy "Fasten Your Seatbelt," Hallyu star Ma Joon-Gyu (Jung Kyoung-Ho) boards a flight that will take him from Tokyo to Seoul. Scandals, chance encounters with the other first class passengers, a past history with a stewardesses on the flight and an oncoming typhoon all lead to complete chaos. Will Ma Joon-Gyu ever make it back to Seoul in one piece?"

I caught this movie on Red months ago! It was a mind-fck, and it obviously didn't treat itself seriously. It was funny in places, though by the end of the movie, you'll find yourself asking what actually happened and what the movie was really about. Jung Kyung-ho was still fire af though! As he always is :')

It's a good movie in a really odd way. We practically watched everything unfolded from his perspective, and he was such an unreliable narrator.

The new plot already makes me think of theories. It is interesting thqt Baek Jin Hee's character is the only survivor (maybe she was not one of the supposed targets?). And that most of people in board the flight are from the same agency. It feels as if the plane crash was intentional, as if somebody who has hard feelings toward the company, maneuvered the event as act of revenge.
Or it could have been orchestrated bu the higher ups to draw the nation's attention away from a big scandal.
Anyway, whatever the behind story, I will definitely check Missing 9 out!

Whether he was the oddball but loveable CEO of Falling for Innocence, or the scary scary sexy Paksa from Cruel City, you just believe him.
Should I go watch One More Happy Ending?

I am hoping for a plot twist where everyone who dodn't survive just gave up on fame and went on being anonymous people doing what they want without the bonds of fa,e. It's a longshot but it eases the dread I feel that the characters are already dead even before I watch it.
