What’s your dramaland catnip? Tell us your stories!

And now for something new!

We’ve been wanting to open up the site to more diverse kinds of topics and posts (within the realm of dramas, that is), and also to give you guys, the readers of Dramabeans, more opportunities to have your thoughts heard. One avenue we want to open up is reader-submitted stories and personal accounts, whether it’s to talk about your favorite types of dramas or how dramas have affected your lives.

To that end, we’re kicking off a Theme of the Month series: Every month, we’ll post a topic or prompt, and invite you to write in your submissions. We’ll post these submissions (as well as those from our own staff) throughout the month. The following month, we’ll pick a new theme and lather, rinse, repeat.

We’re kicking off our first month with the theme “Dramaland Catnip,” which is any kind of trope, idea, plot point, or other story element that has an immediate, strong (and even irrational) pull on you and gets you to watch. Are you a sucker for a certain kind of romantic trope? Is it an entire genre, like action-thrillers, or is it an irrelevant but strangely appealing detail, like a hero’s mane of glory? We want to hear your stories!

To submit:

  • Email your submissions to hello@dramabeans.com. If you have a registered Dramabeans account, include your handle so we can link to it.
  • Include at least 1 image, though more is preferred.
  • Suggested length is between 500 and 1,000 words.
  • Deadline: We will post these on a rolling basis, so we’re taking submissions now. We will cut off accepting submissions on June 25. If you miss this month, join us for a new theme in July!

oh I have to think about it, what drives me crazzzzzyy and is irresistable. and what I obsess over. actors losing themselves in the game, witty sense of humor /irony, when I start worrying over character and get too invested in their fate, the desire to protect.

actually, wait. Catnip affects people differently than cats. It makes us calm. so which drama should I write about? the calming ones or the ones that drive cats crazy, I mean, turn me crazy as a cat at the smell of catnip? If I had a cat I would totally write about the dramas that turn cats crazy, that is, if there are any such dramas.

Do you think the drama Imaginary Cat can make cats go crazy?

No. that´s not all it takes. cats can ignore a martian takeover and two zombie apocalypses before they blink.

So hijinks equal to laser pointers ans cardbord boxes? I have to think about this.

Then I guess my cats were simple minded who only needed one yearn ball to go nuts.

cmon you cannot be comparing a glorious, fluffy ball of yard to a measly apocalypse? One lives among gods, the other just ...cleans the air.

oh I miss that Imaginary Cat so much...hehe

Can it be as well an idea for a drama which has never been done, and the description of how it could be developed? Maybe some producer team would read our ideas and some writer out there can take them to be made into a very brand new production??? That would be cool ?

Whoaaaaa...
My personal faves are stories like SWDBS and WLFKBJ--where the male leads don't over-patronize female leads. #GirlPower
Anyway, gonna submit mine too!

For me it has to a story which is romance centric, dark with a cool/cold handsome male lead. Examples would be heartless city. But I wish for happy endings. Healer was a great watch!

My catnip is the hero who doesn't realize he's in love and misinterprets it as a physical health problem. Totally ridiculous in real life, but pure catnip in a drama! Best Love and Flower Boy Ramen Shop spring to mind, but I'm sure there are others...

I have a drama catnip. That would be two brothers pining for same girl. That is Snow White Sweet Love as an example. Recently, there is Queen for Seven Days. There is of course Scarlet Heart Ryeo. And I cannot forget My Girl, although they are technically cousins.

Please write about this catnip. I want to hear about your thoughts and reader's comments

What a cast! I don't know what's like Choi Yu-hwa as an actress is but she is definitely gorgeous in the stills.
"She uses Ondal’s heart to advance her own goals, but in the process, falls in love herself." A dramaland catnip trope for me.
However, I decided to stay calm about this drama and show little enthusiasm for it, because I don't want to get burned again by the dear kdrama writers.
