My Strange Hero releases new poetic teaser

A new teaser has been released for Yoo Seung-ho’s (I’m Not a Robot) upcoming drama Revenge Returns. Featuring Jo Boa (Temperature of Love) and Yoo Seung-ho, this drama is a rom-com about two childhood sweethearts who meet again when they are bitter enemies. The key incident that makes Yoo Seung-ho turn his back on Jo Boa is when he is accused of assault during his school days. She doesn’t stand up for him, and he ends up being expelled.

Years later, she, the once-model-student, is a struggling unemployed person who barely gets hired as a temp teacher at the high school she once attended. There, she meets Yoo Seung-ho again, and a whole bunch of hijinks occur. Surprisingly though, the teaser gave a much more melo, romantic feeling than I would expect from a comedy. Jo Boa narrates throughout as scenes of her and Yoo Seung-ho falling in love in high school are shown. Her lines are modified excerpts from Pablo Neruda’s Poetry:

“And it was at that age … Poetry arrived
in search of me. I don’t know, I don’t know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I don’t know how or when,”

“I did not know what to say, my mouth
had no way
with names,
my eyes were blind,
and something started in my soul…”

The pink, blush tone of the teaser evokes memories of first love and innocence, although there are glimpses of some tragedy in the teaser. And in the last scene, we see them meeting on the school rooftop again as adults.

Monday-Tuesday drama Revenge Returns begins to air on December 12 on SBS.

Is it just me or does Jo Bo Ah's voice sound a lot like Chae Soo Bin's (Yoo Seung Ho's co-star in "I'm Not A Robot"?

I could get behind that.

I must be behind the times (or getting old). I didn't get your yearly Christmas present comment at all. Can you 'splain?
By the by, I just watched the first hour of The Last Empress and the one word I'd use to describe it: delicious. Deliciously evil emperor and his mistress. Is the emperor a bad person or a good person doing bad things? Jang Nara is perfect for the slapstick they used so far. It's kind of all-over-the-place, but in a good way. I'd say it's rather campy but not overtly so. If they keep this up I'm really gonna like it.

Jumping in because I saw your comment on The Last Empress. And I gotta say "delicious" is the perfect word for it. XD I really enjoyed it, I have no idea why!

It's giving me the same vibe as the black humor in "Heard It Through The Grapevine". Except it's a bit more dangerous and serious.

I haven't seen that one, so I can't quite comment. But so far, they're all SUCH terrible people or SUCH terribly innocent people, it's so laughable. But somehow delicious. XD

Last year he was in I'm Not a Robot about this time. And as everyone knows that's pretty well my favourite drama.

So (assuming this is good), that would be a yearly YSH drama for me to unwrap and enjoy at Christmastime.

Ah, I see. What was I watching last Christmastime? I've no clue. I did watch most of I'm Not a Robot and loved the first 3/4 of it.
The most promising drama for me right now is the first hour (and who can judge how good a drama will be after only an hour!) of Last Empress, despite the fact I don't like Jang Nara.
And the Chinese drama "An Oriental Odyssey". Hmm, bot of these dramas are on the campy spectrum. Interesting.

Or rather the roles Jang Nara keeps being given, playing to slapstick humor.

Slapstick makjang modern sageuk.
It's like they put all my most-hated things in one drama but then cast Jang Nara in it, who I like.
*sigh*

Greenfields said the same thing. I'm almost curious as to just how much I'll hate it. Like... will I loathe every minute of it or just dislike the majority of it?

2

I really liked it up until Jang Nara's slapstick scene. Then I hated it. For a few moments. Then I really liked it again. I'm assuming the slapstick won't last (I hope). It goes from one extreme to the other: murder/slapstick/steamy sex/murder/slapstick, etc.

Yoo Seung-ho has the most adorable smile ever.

I thought this was just a revenge drama, didn't realize it was a comedic one. I'll no doubt give it a try. I like the idea of one of the main characters coming for revenge but falling in love instead.

If they want to be more risque, they should use the Pablo Neruda line "I want to do with you what spring does with cherry trees."

It’s okay... 8 spent my middle school/high school days studying Shakespearean sexual innuendos —which are way worse, btw— 😂😂😂😅😅😅

2

@bebeswtz My ten year old just read Romeo and Juliet and I had to explain all the Shakespearian words for sex, rape, and molestation. Not a sheltered child, that one.

4

Yes! I got more excited reading Pablo Neruda than the other bits of this news.. hehe. Will they be interceding bits of poetry in the drama, I wonder?

Well, not shipping them (yet), they could be blood-related.

Anyway, I'm not familiar with this Yoo Seung-who actor, but I did like Jo Boa in SUFBB and Surplus Princess, so I'm hoping for the best for her.
