A spring date for Nam Joo-hyuk, Han Ji-min in JTBC’s The Light in Your Eyes

This looks like it could be a cute little drama. JTBC’s upcoming The Light in Your Eyes is gearing up for its release in about two and a half weeks’ time, and the show has given us a new trailer and some stills to whet our appetites for what promises to be a light romance sprinkled with a fantastical touch.

This latest trailer really focuses on Nam Joo-hyuk’s (Bride of the Water God 2017) character, who tells us that there isn’t a neighborhood in Jeju Island that he hasn’t lived in. That would be because of his deadbeat dad, whose constant money troubles force the family to constantly uproot around the island. That would explain why Nam Joo-hyuk’s character has to work so many part-time positions, from the more common convenience store clerk, to doing manual labor in a factory.

He says, “I didn’t know what it meant to grow fond of your neighborhood.” But that might just change when he comes across Han Ji-min’s (Familiar Wife) character, with whom he exchanges several shy smiles with throughout the teaser. He declares that he has grown fond of “this neighborhood” as he snatches a shot of soju from a morose-looking Han Ji-min. She adds that the area is quite pretty come spring, when “lots of flowers bloom.” The trailer ends as Nam Joo-hyuk determinedly replies that they should watch the spring together.

I’m a little disappointed to see that Kim Hye-ja (The Way, Dear My Friends) doesn’t appear in the teaser, because I’m eager to see how her part in this dual-actress role affects the dynamic between her character and Nam Joo-hyuk. But these stills do more to make me look forward to this show, because Sohn Ho-joon (My Secret Terrius) playing unemployed slacker older brother to Kim Hye-ja? That’s pure comedic gold right there.

The Light in Your Eyes will air on JTBC’s Monday-Tuesday slot, premiering on February 11.

I totally understand your reservation abut HJM, but as @ndlessjoie said, she played her character in Familiar Wife with so much whimsy and pathos now I am really looking forward to watching her in this next project!

I was never impressed by NJH and HJM until I watched Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo with NJH and Miss Baek with HJM. I changed my view on them. I guess they are actors who can really shine depending on the characters. So, I'm having high hopes for them.

I'm shocked that y'all prefer a mediocre actor over an experienced one that knows her craft- oh wait but he is cute. Darn, I'm not paying attention again.

This looks good! A lot of softness and sweetness with the life struggles of these characters.

NJH fits these boy-next-door type of characters more. He is not a great actor with a lot of range, but fortunately this character seems to fall within his range. Just by the way he reacts/interacts to the lead female in the trailer, I already ship the OTP.

It really does look like it'll be a nice little show. I like everyone in it. I'm curious about how the fantasy elements will come into play because we haven't been given much of a clue about it yet but I'm looking forward to it. Tone is more melancholy and thoughtful than I anticipated. Looking forward to it and hope it's well-received and good.

I ADORE/LOVE Han Ji-min! I've never seen Nam Joo-hyuk in anything except Cheese in the Trap but the premise sounds really good. Plus Son Ho-joon is always great, so I'll definitely be checking this out if for no other reason than to see him interact with Kim Hye-ja and for HJM of course.

Nam Joo-hyuk is well casted in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and his character is one of the many wonderful reasons to check out the show. I highly recommend it if you are in the mood for college rom-com featuring a strong heroine, adorable and well-drawn friendships and family dynamics, and of course......so much so much cute!

Oh, NJH's character seems emotional and somber. Also, rofl at the description that SHJ is KHJ's older brother 😂. I bet there's gonna be lots of funny scenes between these two but then punch us with feels. February 11,marked!

I really liked Han Ji Min in Familiar Wife, so I'm excited about this show! Nam Joo Hyuk not so sure about. He was so cute in WFKBJ, but then Bride of Habaek happened...Looking forward to checking it out anyways.

Boy, you let me more than down with Bride of the Water God. I hope this role suits you. I see more chemistry among these two and NJH plays a good guy-next-door down to earth role. I hope this doesn't turn into a typical noona romance!

omg really? thinking back, he wasn't soo bad. it was the story. and the writing. But I do still think he lacked chemistry with the lead. or the love story premise didnt make sense. My memory is foggy! I'm glad you enjoyed the drama though, because despite it all, I like the actor.

I thought the sets were beautiful as well as the music and you're right about the writing, the story, the lack of chemistry...

For me, it was the lack of chemistry and everyone in the recaps sh*tting on it. Mostly it was the leads just didn't work together.

@ndlessjoie, that's what I did and continue to do. BOTWG taught me that. lol.

For goodness sake... I am all for noon a romances, but can we PLEASE find an actress younger than 35 to pair with a very young man in his early-mid 20's one of these days? I get it, he is playing older, and she is playing younger....but at some point, it becomes unbelievable unless it is central to the story. I don't dislike HJM but I hate this pairing. NJH is so cute, but he has not developed an air of maturity that could stand up next to a 36 year old woman and make the pairing believable. She is obviously IN her 30's and he barely looks old enough to drive a car.

Fwiw. NJH will be 25 on Feb. 22, 2019.
Correct. HJM is 36 years old.

Hey, I said early-mid 20's. I knew he was 24😋 I still think 36 is too old to pass as an ingenue. It bugs me like crazy.

I was about to sing "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" by Aaliyah, but in light of the current R. Kelly scandal, it might not be the best soundtrack...

All this to say, 36 is truly just a state of mind. It's not like she's 70, playing a woman in her 30s.

I will be 42 in a month, and I'm fine with a noona romance, but I don't like a 36 year old as an ingenue. It puts me off. It's my personal opinion. I think it's weird that they would not cast a younger actress in this role. I mean, let's be real. I will probably watch it, bcuz I love fluffy romance, but it's my prayer to the drma gods that next time they will cast him with a younger actress again. He was sparkling with LSK.

1

@kellibean I had to google the meaning of "ingenue" to understand what your point of contention was... and now I get it. Yup, I absolutely agree with that fact that there's nothing more annoying than a bumbling pure-as-a-newborn 30-something-year-old . I concede.

1

YES! I am 36 and I completely agree with you!

I remember back about a year ago the chatter about the age difference between Yoon Doo-joon (27 at the time) and Kim So-Hyun (18 at the time) in RADIO ROMANCE. Some people who had watched KSH grow up as a child actor seemed to be uncomfortable. (Actually when it aired there were a couple of drinking scenes with KSH that made a lot of us uncomfortable.)
Maybe I am one of the few who enjoyed RR. I think in some ways the age difference did affect RR. From watching bts videos I think YDY made a point of being gentle with KSH.

I wasn't at all bothered by RR. As long as everyone is of consenting age, I am fine with an age difference. I'm not bothered by Clean with passion for now either. Both the leading women are of legal age and have been working professionally for a number of years. They are not children, and can play 25 at least. I wasn't worried about the age difference in My Ajusshi, and wish they had left the storyline as they intended. Even if that meant a love line. What I can't stand is Dramaland dressing 35-40 year old women up in Peter pan collars and casting them as ingenue parts along side 23-25 year old young men. It's not believable.

Nam Joo Hyuk get better after winning the new actor at dragon bell awards. Idk, but every actor/tress always getting better at small screen after winning that award. It's still the first semester of this year, but many drama look so promising

i love NJH but i feel as an actor he still needs guidance and direction. He did really well for Weightlifting Fairy and not too great for Bride of Habek and Scarlet Heart. On the whole, i reckon he has got great potential, he just needs to own the roles to bring it to the next level

This is not a genre I am particularly drawn to and am not familiar with the work of the three leads. However, SHJ has a couple of very funny teasers on his Instagram page.
SHJ maybe the hook that gets me watching.

Sohn Ho-joon should have turned this down. He deserves a lead role, or at least be second lead to someone better than him.

I really like NJh. I feel like his smile is very friendly and tender. He is also very cute. 😍

I am not a fan of Noona romances but what bothers me MOST here is the 12 year age gap! Boy and girl, girl and boy don't care it is just too icky!!! The same reason why I didn't watch Clean with Passion, even though I LOVE both actors. It is hard when actors look their age and the gap looks more profound.
