Drama viewership ratings for the week of Sep. 9-15, 2019

This week’s ratings chart will be looking a bit empty for two reasons. One, because this week was Korea’s three-day Thanksgiving holiday Chuseok, thus causing pre-emptions. And two, because the new dramas won’t be coming until next week. But for the rest of our dramas, the show must go on!

Numbers for Monday-Tuesday rom-com (and ratings underdog) Let Me Hear Your Song actually went up, with Tuesday’s episode reaching 3.7 percent. Over on cable, youth drama A Moment at Eighteen ended its run on a high note. It didn’t quite reach 4 percent, but at 3.9, it was the drama’s highest rating.

Not much to report for the Wednesday-Thursday lineup, but as you’ll see there, and with the weekend lineup, ratings went down for everything — even the popular Arthdal Chronicles. Sorry, dramaland, but it looks like folks can’t be tuning in during the holidays!

Melo is amazing so far- I love everything about it. And yay for Son Seok-gu and can't wait for his love-line.

Me too! I was so used to Son Seok Gu being professional and upright in suits in Designated Survivor, so I almost died in laughter when he showed up in casual clothes and started cursing like nobody's business in Melo. Can't wait to see him and Eun Jung team up and blow the world away lol.

I didn't know it was getting such low numbers until reading this post, and I'm super surprised. It's not only well-written, but I would have thought it would be really relatable for young Korean women today, not to mention it seems right on trend as far as subject matter. I know JTBC dramas always get lower viewership then the other channels, but I would have expected Melo to be doing better than it is.

The ratings for Devil unfortunately mirrors my patience with the plot and storytelling. I don't mind fantasy, but to me this show lacks logic and continuity.

Imo....Devil is for a niche audience, the story is not mainstream. And the show must be astounding to maintain the niche audience interest...but Devil is going everywhere and also nowhere....it got lost in the world it tried to create. It feels like writernim just threw everything in but did not think of the connections in between to make writernims fantasy world believable. I have my reservations but I'll watch the finale to see if it all somehow makes sense in the end.

Imo, Good acting can only help a drama to some extent, but with a script in shambles, doused in kerosene and set on fire, there's nothing much good acting can do.

I feel bad for all involved, surely this was not the outcome they expected with a huge name cast. Hopefully the ratings increase in the final week and all move on to better projects.

Devil had potential but there's so many problems with the story. I don't like what JKH is doing with the material but fair to say at least he is doing SOMETHING to try to sell it. All the actors are trying really hard but the script is pretty dumb at points.

Justice (KBS) and Doctor Detective (SBS) ended the week before, so the channels waited for the end of Holidays to air their new dramas : When the Camellia Blooms (KBS) and Secret Boutique (SBS). MBC didn't air Welcome 2 Life too.

Be Melodramatic deserves a better rating. Iam in Seoul amd tempted to turn it on this weekend just to boost the ratings by a fraction. The writing is fresh and I adore ensemble stories.

The thing with Melo is that not only does it have very bad ratings it also doesn't have a lot of buzz. The actors just aren't popular so they can't bring in ratings. Literal children like Ong and Jihoon are overshadowing them on popularity. With the new batch of dramas starting this week Melo will disappear even further into oblivion. Just shows that South Korea doesn't care about relatable young people dramas. They also will never watch dramas with unattractive main leads or at least the ones who don't fit into their stereotype of attractive. If they cast trendy attractive young actors like Nam Joo Hyuk, Lee Do Hyun, Go Ara or even a BlackPink member for the same plot the ratings would not be as bad as it is right now. It would have some buzz courtesy of the actors. This is why everyone tries to cast trendy stars rather than write substantial plots.
