As per the usual “there’s nothing I want to watch in the current line-up of dramas’ mood, I went to rewatch (just from the latter half) “Marriage Contract” for the umpteenth time, and bawled my eyes out for the umpteenth time while doing it….

Dear Dreamland,

We need more dramas like this. We need more dramas that will tug at our heart strings and make us bawl our eyes out, all the same, even in our rewatches.

Pffft!!! We simply need dramas that we WANT to go back and rewatch and feel the same things we felt when we did our first watch.

Sincerely,

Drama fan who is genuinely concerned for the current state of Dramaland

I love Marriage Contract! I cried more on my rewatch than I did originally.

Yea, I think I cried more during my 3rd & 4th rewatch than I did originally, because by then, yes, I know how the plot and the story proceeds, but I’ve been given more understanding, more thought, and more insight to what’s happening and I’m also absorbing more– and therefore, FEELING MORE– of what’s happening in the drama

Same… sometimes shows try to subvert all the cliches and be resfreshingly different/realistic/creative, but they end up feeling… soulless. I need a comfort food drama.

I’ve been on Netflix all morning trying to find a feel-good comfort food docu-series to watch, but to no avail 🙁

So accurate. Even if Kdramaland has been successful in producing good slice of life dramas, some of them are soulless. Same goes for the rom-coms which now don’t even classify as good comfort food.

Oh someone needs to see this. Marriage Contract was a gem and honestly I think the only drama that has made me feel the same (impatient for the next episode and emotional ) after MC would be Go Back Couple. 2018 had some really good shows but the addictive factor for sth genuinely good is no longer there.

Yea, you’re totally right, the addictive factor– or even the factor to even start anything or continue watching anything– isn’t there anymore 🙁

Yes, continuing watching is the biggest issue for me. I have hardly completed a show this year.

Same, my drama-watching/completed list for this year has been all over the place because it feels like I haven’t been able to really commit to any dramas this year

Agree. I haven’t had a show that I’ve truly *needed* to marathon in awhile. (Go Back Couple and INAR were probably my last ones that I’ve felt that way. Probably JBL if I hadn’t live-watched). Half the time I’ve been like “is this episode done yet?”

Yea, I just realized– I haven’t been able to fully finish a drama ever since finishing “Tempted”, and that was way back in March… And even that drama was a pain to get through 🙁 Every drama I’ve started since then has not been completed past episode 5 or 6

Exactly the ffd key is my buddy. They were a few posts regarding King2hearts and Misaeng these past few days and I was reminded how good those shows were. I wonder if its the cliffhangers, better stories or what but I have no urge to watch any of the current or even future shows. Probably the only one I am hoping to be better is Memories of Alhambra. I also wonder What drama would finally bring the Healer craze back to DB? While there have been shows that were popular on DB, there was still none like that.

I’m not even interested in “Memories of Alhambra”, and I admit, it’s because of Park Shin Hye…. Something about her has always rubbed me the wrong way XD I DID manage to finish “Doctors” though XD

Yea, nothing that has already finished airing, or will be airing in the upcoming months to wrap up 2018 interests me T….T

The good ol’ days of healthy debates, discussions, ship wars, and fangirling here on Dramabeans 😀

            There were certainly a few:
            – Just Between Lovers
            – Healer
            – BTIOFL
            – APAD
            – Liar and His Lover
            – Come and Hug Me
            – Are You Human, Too?

Those are the most ‘recent’ ones I can think of

I wonder too. I was talking to some beanies and they were kinda putting down the whole Healer craze, but I was part of that and it was awesome. It wasn’t that it was objectively the best kdrama ever, but it was a solid drama that stayed true to itself from start to finish. But, really it was all about the environment the beanies created that made everyone join in. It was a mix of anaylysis and fan-girling/boying that hasn’t happened to that extent in awhile. (Also it was before the like button and fan wall so that has a lot to do with it too). It just hit the right feels. Liar and His Lover and BTLIOF have come the closest, but there were still such divisions in those (ppl making a deal about like-baiting for LAHL and the ending for BTLIOF).
