    MONEY FLOWER’s music is daebak. I posted tracks when it aired, starting on 11/11/2017. (TEMPERATURE OF LOVE, BECAUSE THIS LIFE IS OUR FIRST, and GO BACK COUPLE were also airing then, and you can find those OSTs, too.)

    I also included some pieces of background music.

    Thank you, @pakalanapikake! I just bookmarked this to check out later. You were the first person whose comments made me stand up and say, “YAY!, some smart people here and a good place to find intelligent comments on kdrama!” We had some exchanges several months (a year?) ago, but I got sidetracked by pain issues, surgeries, etc., so kept watching kdramas but didn’t even take a peek at DB. I think even opening OT made me feel guilty that I wasn’t writing anything myself (I mean anything, not just comments on kdramas). Now, I’m slowly reengaging–first by just reading a post or news article here and there and now by sort of participating in OT. Off to Napa, Calif., for a few weeks to see 91-yr-old mother (who looks like my younger sister) and rest of family, but hope to reengage w DB in January when I return.

    Is this too personal? I’m still not really familiar w/the rules, norms, mores of this site. Thanks!

      Aloha, @isbjorn! I recall that we’ve chatted in the past, although I don’t recall the subject(s). I’m glad you’re feeling better, especially after surgery. Sometimes holing up and keeping a low profile is the best medicine. The dark months have historically been the difficult time of year for me, and sometimes I don’t feel too chatty, so I have an idea of what you’ve been through.

      No, this isn’t too personal. We’ve conversed before. I think this is exactly what the fan wall is for. For what it’s worth, my Dad is 92, so we’re probably boomers of a feather, which is nice. I hope you have a lovely time visiting your mother. 😉

      The good news is that you’ve timed your return to coincide with DB’s reemergence from the chrysalis. New Minions have joined the merry band, and more dramas are being recapped. There’s increased coverage of casting news and forthcoming shows, too. Lurking is a good way to get back into the swing of things. Speak up if and when the spirit moves you. 😉

      Thanks for your kind words. I try to contribute to the positive signal-to-noise ratio in discussions here at DramaBeans (despite my tendency to go off on tangents and play FM disc jockey on my fan wall). Sometimes I run out of steam or get bogged down when shows get a little too real and depressing in their realistic portrayals of dysfunction. THE THIRD CHARM was such a one. The performances were so convincing I found myself well and truly bummed out, which is a feather in the cap for the actors and writers, but not so hot for me. 😉 I’ve also recently had a bunch of shows fizzle out or otherwise derail in the homestretch, which is a different kind of letdown. Alas, most of the shows I’m currently watching are not being recapped, but I was pretty active in the recap threads during the fall dramas that recently finished airing.

      1. DAE JAN-GEUM IS WATCHING, epicurean shenanigans w/ the ever-charming Shin Dong-wook and siblings carrying on the family tradition;
      2. GOD’S QUIZ: REBOOT (season 5!) w/ medical examiner Ryu Deok-hwan in his second drama following his return to civilian life;
      3. TOP STAR YOO-BAEK w/ finicky actor Kim Ji-suk exiled to THREE MEALS A DAY: FISHING VILLAGE existence in a 1980s time warp;
      4. PRIEST w/ Yeon Woo-jin, which is not as scary as the excellent GUEST w/ Kim Dong-wook and Kim Jae-wook of COFFEE PRINCE fame, but interesting and watchable;
      5. MAMA FAIRY AND THE WOODCUTTER, w/ Yoon Hyun-min, Moon Chae-won, and Seo Ji-hoon in a Korean take on ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE’S FRACTURED FAIRY TALES;
      6. CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW w/ Yoon Kyun-sang, Kim Yoo-jung, and Song Jae-rim, in which Mr. Clean meets his match in Ms. Pigpen.

        thank you! will put these all on my personal “to-watch” list & bookmarked it for now. and thx for catching me up on DB stuff. hope yr dad is in good health & that you live closer to him than I do to my mother (tho I must admit I ran as far away from Napa as I as fast as I could as soon as I could).

        Happy holidays. I look forward to yr comments in the winter–& hope I’ll continue to be more engaged.

        PS–I LOVED Guest–actually wrote a comment abt it I think (maybe my very first toe in the DB waters this time around)–how great the actors were, maybe? oh, no, how great the woman was. And adored Rocky & Bullwinkle when I was younger so maybe will check out MFATW afterall.

          You’re most welcome, @isbjorn. I mentioned more shows in the MONEY FLOWER & eye acting discussion, too.

          I don’t know if you’re into sageuks, my favorite genre. They have been in drought this year. GRAND PRINCE was pretty good but not great, with excellent performances by Yoon Si-yoon and Joo Sang-wook. YSY has another sageuk coming up with Jo Jung-suk, premiering in February 2019. UGEUMCHI will be set in late Joseon times during the Donghak Peasant Rebellion (during the time period of MR. SUNSHINE).

          Shin Dong-wook has a supporting role in REACH FOR SINCERITY / TOUCH YOUR HEART, slated for the first half of the new year: http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/11/shin-dong-wook-shim-hyung-tak-lee-joon-hyuk-join-tvns-reach-for-sincerity/.

          Thanks for your holiday wishes. Here’s hoping you have a lovely holiday season with your mother. (And that you get back in circulation on DB as your time and energy allow.) I live close to the homeplace, and Dad is well. (Gramps lived to be 102, so he’s got a ways to go.)

          As for GUEST, the entire cast did a dandy job, even the cameo victims of the week. I’m still not sure how it could be so intense without scaring the pants off me.

          MAMA FAIRY is kind of a karmic whodunnit. It’s uneven, but also appealing. I’m finding it less over-the-top than HWAYUGI. Go Du-shim was in it in the beginning as one of Mama Fairy’s two avatars / user interfaces. Alas, she hasn’t been around of late. Too bad, because she’s a wonderful actress.

          Hang loose, and have safe travels. 😉

            Thank you again, @pakalanapikake, yes I love sageuks, but like you, I’ve been upset about the dearth of them lately. I do NOT like Chinese historical dramas at all. Don’t mind, even enjoy, some supernatural elements in sageuks (this does refer to just the K ones, not Chinese historical, right?), but Chinese ones are just too silly/flimsy for my taste.

            I think Ji Sung is in an upcoming Joseon-era movie? I’d love to see that.

            It took me several months, with many dramas in between, but I finally finished HWAYUGI, which I started watching cuz of Cha Seung-Won and Lee Seung-gi. I wanted to smack CSW across the face so often I had to take it in very small doses. And he is one of my fave actors ever (I’m not sure I’ve ever been more moved than by him in High Heels). Also, I do like a lot of the Hong sisters works, so I was hoping for a lot more. Though I did end up liking it by the end.

            You also have a wonderful holiday season. Nice that your dad is so close–and that such longevity runs in the family.

            Just a quick dip into DB today then likely won’t check in till January. See you then!

          Re: @isbjorn December 11, 2018 at 2:57 AM

          This will be waiting for you when you get back from California. Happy New Year in advance. 😉

          I just finished an intense 12-episode OCN sageuk from 2010-11, YAKSHA (“demon”). It is a Joseon-era bloodbath, with a 19 rating, mostly for the arterial spray. It is straightforward, with no folderol or tail-chasing, and only a modicum of noble idiocy. Son Byung-ho, who portrayed the scheming uncle in GRAND PRINCE, played an antagonistic vice premier. Jeon Hye-bin was the leading lady, and I thought she did a good job. Episodes are only about 45 minutes, so they fly by. It was a nice switch from the 75 to 80 minute runtimes of more recent shows. And at only 12 installments, it’s not the huge time investment that 20 (or 50-60!) episodes demands.

          As for HWAYUGI, I watched for Cha Seung-won, Lee Seung-gi, and some of the supporting cast. CSW is one of my faves, too. The Bull Demon King and various other parts of the show were over-the-top for me, too. I’ve seen MAN ON HIGH HEELS, but was more moved by his turn as a death-row murderer who is given 24-hour leave to visit his elderly mother and teenage son whom he hasn’t seen in 15 years in MY SON (2007). The title character is played by Ryu Deok-hwan, who caught my eye as King Gongmin in FAITH. He and CSW are great. Talk about eye acting. There’s a fantasy interlude that reminds me of RDH’s role in WELCOME TO DONGMAKGOL (2005).

            How wonderful to have a note waiting from you, @pakalanapikake, when I got back! California (Napa Valley) was great but I’ve been a bit down since returning; a medical device I have punked out so I had to leave early & sort of haven’t been able to regain my balance or bearings since then. Hope you had a great Christmas & 2019 is being good to you.

            YAKSHA sounds like something I’d really like. Thanks for suggestion. OCN does some amazing shows. unfortunately I don’t know how to find it. Lately just have Viki (inc. Kocowa) & Netflix.

            Saw the movie Burning this week (Lee Chang-Dong’s latest). Best film I’ve seen in years.

            Aloha, @isbjorn, so good to hear from you. I hope you can get your medical device fixed so you’ll be back up to snuff. If it’s possible to hang loose and cut yourself a lot of slack while medicating with Kdramas, give it a try. I’m rooting for you. 😉

            I had a quiet, uneventful Christmas and New Year, which was what I wanted. I spent them immersed in Kdramas, and I think a movie or two. I’m still watching a couple of 2018 dramas that are gradually winding down. Am currently watching CROWNED CLOWN (drama remake of 2012 film MASQUERADE), and just finished all 81 episodes of JUMONG, which is simply magnificent. They don’t make sageuks like that one any longer. Am rewatching LAND OF THE WIND, and enjoying it again. Song Il-kook is simply terrific, especially when charging around on horseback and shooting arrows.

            Will you be watching KINGDOM when it premieres on Netflix next week? I’ve been looking forward to the zombie apocalypse in Joseon. Ju Ji-hoon plays the crown prince. (He was also the lead in MAWANG and PRINCESS HOURS.) 😉

            Re: YAKSHA, I saw it on an unofficial site, WatchAs—. Viki used to have it, but it is no longer available in the US. Older dramas are often hard to find, with or without English subtitles. I just verified that it’s still available, and found Google triggering Firefox to block it. Interesting, because I had no problem this morning when I watched PRIEST raw there. My antivirus blocks one or two servers on WatchA—n, but not all of them have been harmful, apparently. I suspect that Google is just trying to be “helpful,” which itself is a pain in the butt.

            I nearly jumped for joy when I found MAWANG on KBS World TV on YouTube about a year ago — with spiffy new English subtitles. It’s not a sageuk, but it’s an excellent revenge drama. KBS World TV also offers a passel of short drama specials. I’ve watched many of them, and am impressed with the quality of the productions and their casts — and the subtitles.

            @pakalanapikake, thank you so much for reminding me about Kingdom. Love the director & writer so am gonna give it a try, even if it is abt zombies. I did like Ruler: King of the Mask (?), which seems to have a somewhat similar plot but went on way too long. Wicked grandfather controlling behind the scenes & his amazing granddaughter kept me watching. It was also my intro to L, who I since really enjoyed in a short Netflix “Groundhog Day”-type series. Also like songs in that show.

            Speaking of songs, just finished Encounter (what a great supporting cast! I’ll watch anything w Ko Chang-Soek [sp?]) & have to find OST. Was really moved by two of the songs there.

            Thanks for all info in yr reply below, which I can’t seem to reply directly to so am replying here.

            I am such a dope! Just realized that when I reply here, it does come up in proper place in thread. After being away from DB for a while, I seem to have forgotten everything I learned about how to use it! (Or is it just that my brain is getting too tacky from all the sugar I’ve consumed over the years?!)

            Tried Jumong a few times but I think it’s one of the ones whose subtitles were so bad (on Drama Fever, maybe?) I just couldn’t keep watching. Will try again & perhaps can find it w more up-to-date subs.

            I like Crowned Clown a lot so far. My husband liked Masquerade & insists I saw it, but as usual w movies, I fell asleep in most of it so only vaguely remember. Should check out that again; since I’m not so crazy busy these days w work & activism, I don’t so easily conk out as soon as credits roll. I find watching early in the day helps too. BURNING, which I mentioned above is perfect for whenever time of day you are most alert and yearning for something that spurs thought and has much open, magical space inspiring viewer to see carefully, think clearly and journey in one’s own mind.

            Of course, it seems as if you are always on target and at the apex of mental acuity!
