Ok beanies, I need some good recommendations. I am only watching Her Private Life and am looking for something I can binge. Nothing too heavy nor too rom com-y (HPL is giving me enough of that) – and without a crap ending!!!
I haven’t really been watching all that many kdramas as of late. Just finished The Fiery Priest and before that the only dramas I can remember completing are The Light in Your Eyes and Kingdom. Any help appreciated!!
Do you watch Japanese dramas, because I’ve been telling everyone to watch Bokura wa Kiseki de Dekite Iru (English title is Miracles).
About a professor of animal behavior, who is on the autism spectrum, and is insatiably curious about the natural world. I absolutely loved this drama. Low key (and I mean very very very low key) romance, a birth secret (but the reveal makes you go, “of course”) and a turtle named George.
Probably my favorite Japanese drama. It’s a nice exploration of how our differences influence our relationships as well as our own perceptions of how we fit into the world.
I wish had something as quirky and good to recommend but for jdramas that I also liked there is Okusama wa, Tori Atsukai Chui (Caution: Hazardous Wife) about an assassin who decides to retire and be a housewife, but well, housewifing is a bit dull. You can find this one on Viki.
Then there is Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata (Ending Planner). This one is about a man who takes over his family’s funeral parlor business, which he hated, when his father dies. The parlor takes in bodies from the police, and he starts investigating their unsolved deaths. In addition to the episodic mysteries, there is also an overarching family story, and once again, a very very low key romance.
Have you seen Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu? It shares a lot of similarities to Because This is Our First Life, but yet is not the same. The actors do a dance at the end of each episode that is delightful. The drama itself is good too, but then I love a good contract relationship.
If you find anything else like Miracles, please pass it along. I almost, kind of wish, they would do a sequel. George and Kazuki’s return from (redacted due to spoileriness) would be interesting.
Thanks for the recommendations egads! I haven’t watched many j dramas so these are all new to me, will definitely check them out. While it’s not Miracles, there is an amazon prime j drama called Tokyo Girls that I liked a lot when I watched it last year. It’s about the various stages in a woman’s life, each stage represented by the Tokyo neighbourhood she lives in. I wanted to revisit it when I got the chance, and seeing that I’m struggling to recollect more, maybe that time is now 😅
I’m not sure if you’ve seen Just Between Lovers but I think it might fits in with what you’re looking for! 🙂 Life on Mars is also great~ With Jung Kyung-ho and Park Sung-woo’s new drama coming soon, I might rewatch LOM for their bromance.
Since you watched The Fiery Priest, I recommend you My Fellow Citizens. It is currently airing but so far the writing is good. It makes politics interesting, characters are well written and hilarious and you can feel the love of the main couple even if they don’t have many fluffy moments.
My dad is watching this one as well. I think I might put it on my list, but will wait till it’s over. I need a guarantee that I won’t be burned by the ending. lol

How about a SFD rewatch? 😉
I’m enjoying Special Labor Inspector Jo because it’s light and fun (sort of like imagining Chief Kim as a civil servant). But it hasn’t ended yet…

I’m not sure I can handle rewatching SFD. It was sooooo good, but definitely not an easy watch in many ways.
