My attempt to branch out from the Untamed includes watching Guardian (which I’d heard conflicting things about) and Special Labor Inspector Jo (which is wacky fun so far). Let’s see if this sticks 🙂

      Guardian starts off a bit rough for me but I’ll stick with it for a few more episodes before I decide

    Yea guardian can be conflicting… They went with a different concept than the novel due Chinese censorship….when I watched again after reading the novel… I realized the main leads are acting out the novel characters while the rest are acting out drama script… If that makes sense… I also recommend some of the Guardian crack vids on YouTube they are the best…

      Ha! I actually watched one of those crack videos, which made me want to watch the drama. Ohhh I see. That might explains a weird feeling I have watching the characters interact. I’m gonna give it a few more episodes before I decide i think.

        Yep.. The thing is guardian got lucky with real good actors for main leads…. And the production team supported what they were doing by following the novel more… There are a lot of Easter eggs that the team drops in the series.. As hint to the couple’s relationship which they cldnt do openly…. Like I said the novel readers got it while watching.. That made it interesting..

        If you are interested in the novel… Although I’ll warn you it’s not completely translated… And the translation gets updated once a month😖 but on bright side. It’s 85% complete… And really good

          oh thanks for the link! I’m interested in the story and if the drama doesn’t work out, I’ll turn to the novel for sure. 😛 I’m really liking the lead actors so far, but the supporting cast is kind of lackluster, especially the new intern guy. His scared face cracks me up bc it’s just ridiculous. But that’s just my initial reaction based on 2 episodes.

            The intern guy is one of the worst drama characters ever. I’m not even kidding. I absolutely hated him. I watched 20 ep. and just couldn’t take it anymore. I liked the main guys and they did a good job but almost everyone else was badly written characters with just as bad actors. The overall plot seemed like it could be interesting and was an interesting idea but just couldn’t keep watching 😅

            @trinpie oh no! this does not bode well. Yea besides the lead actors, the other supporting actors are just bleh. Also, I get that Haixing is a fictional Earth-like planet, but like, can the set design be something else other than a mish-mash of mid-20’s Shanghai aesthetics, badly-done steam-punk-ish props with a sprinkle of modern cars? Wow, I’m already having so many salty feels.

            @strawberry i think the reason the world building doesnt add up is coz the drama converted the supernatural in the novel to science fiction….since they cant depict ghosts and such in modern setting they had to go with aliens….thats why the execution feels a bit mismashed its supposed to be supernatural but the are explaining it away as alien tech…it weirded me out since that aspect was so different than the novel, still i watched it for the leads…

            @raekaddict that makes so much sense! I forgot about the restrictions on supernatural elements in Cdramas. That’s too bad tho. Now I gotta go read the novel.

        yup.. same i think i know which crack videos you talking about..
        there are 3 or 2 from same person and so good..

        but that is all of guardian i watched.. the series was boring up until ep 12 then i dropped it

      welps, I gave up on the drama and was just jumping around watching cute moments bt the two leads. I’ll def read the novel now~ and maybe watch the other crack videos haha

        i think you should give the drama a try after you have made a headway in the novel…like i said the main actors were portraying their role from the novel…so the subtle acting is wonderful to watch….
