I have discovered a new crack that I love with all my heart. I can’t stop expressing how much I love this drama. It gives me all the feelings from warmth, to happiness, to tears. This found family and their love for each other is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in a long time. They defend, protect and love each other so fiercely. And at the center of this family is the worlds most amazing dad who loves these children so deeply. I can’t express how much I love this drama. It gives me so many feelings. I highly suggest Go Ahead to everyone. I love love love this drama and this family. 💕

    I am coming in on this post very late in the day but I couldnโ€™t see this and not comment. I loved this drama. It was quite an adventure watching them go through a lot of trauma and distress along side the happy times. It was very well written and the acting was outstanding. I loved the two dadโ€™s commitment to making this work although emotionally struggling the policeman learnt a lot from the restaurant owner on how to be available for the children as and when they needed it at a deeper level than than being a physical presence in their lives.

      Yes! I love how jealous Wohuan, or Boyfriend as we’ve dubbed him in the discord channel, gets of Shiqi (aka Girlfriend) 😂 we were joking that Boyfriend got his fancy ribbons and braids and nice clothes after Girlfriend returned because he had to actually work for Jian’s affection after she returned.

      I love boyfriends and Jian’s (aka Tender Boy) relationship. It’s totally straight but so sweet and cute how much they do care and love each other. It’s a healthy example of a loving bromance. 😍

My current obsession Ancient Detective. I highly suggest this to anyone who likes costume cdramas. The characters and their relationships with each other are such a joy to watch and makes this drama so cracktastic.

I love that the ML, Jian Buzhi, has no martial arts skills and needs his best friend and lover to protect him. It’s a unique twist to most period cdramas out there where the ML is almost always very skilled at martial arts.

The first few cases aren’t all that interesting and it’s hard to figure out who is the culprit since the murderers usually used magical martial art skills to do them. But ultimately it was the characters that made this drama so enjoyable. I love the threesome (and later foursome). They are so much fun together. Even the side characters you meet are all fun, different and endearing.

You have the sweet and tender Jian Buzhi, who is the glue of the group. He might not be able to fight or protect himself but everyone looks up to him as an example of goodness and strength. He is trying to carry on his father’s legacy to uphold justice by solving crimes with his intelligence, bravery and skills.

Then there is the brash, loyal but lovable Zhao Wohuan who meets Jian and within the first few minutes decides he will be his protector. His journey from being an untrained swordsman to being a force to be reckoned with is rewarding. Him and Jian have a beautiful and healthy bromance together that I absolutely love, which is built upon trust, brotherhood and love.

The last main character is the kickass Zhan Shiqi. She may seem like a cold and emotionless assassin at first but she just wants to live her life being the woman she was never allowed to be as an assassin. She is highly skilled and protects her lover Jian without question. The relationship between Shiqi and Jian is sweet and tender. No grand confessions of love between them, but their love is real and strong.

I really wish this did well, both because I would have loved a second season (it ended very well but a scene at the very end opened it up to a 2nd season) and because these talented actors deserve to be recognized. I’m heartbroken that most of these actors have no future dramas, or they are small side parts. 💔 But I definitely suggest this drama!

    Ancient Detective is an underrated gem. It has garnered good reviews everywhere but didn’t enjoy half the popularity as dozens of C dramas out there which paled in comparison in terms of quality. It isn’t big budget but that doesn’t mean the production quality is bad. Everything was very tastefully done and I love the aesthetics.

    I enjoyed the cases more than I expected because I find most C crime shows boring. This one is pretty old school, giving me vibes of Agatha Christie. Although it got a little tad repetitive at one point, the whole crime mystery thing was well done. I was pleasantly surprised that they managed to tie up all the cases to the main plot with as little plotholes possible.

    Most of all, the cast is amazing! I enjoy the bromance between the two male leads so much! They are cute beyond words. I have seen my fair share of drama bromance. This is one of the very best. It’s straight, bucking the trend of BL these days but not less enjoyable. The rivalry between Zhao Wohuan and Shiqi over the position of being Jian Buzhi’s protector is hilarious. A departure from the usual male leads fighting over the girl or vice versa.

    Besides the Trio, the other side characters were interesting as well and well acted. For a relatively new and young cast, I’d give them top marks. Kudos too to the scriptwriter for these awesome characters.
    I have little hope that they will do Season 2. Look at C drama record, they seldom do seasons and even if they do, they take forever. Nonetheless, it’s a great drama and easily one of my top dramas for 2020, even if the year hasn’t ended.

    Thanks for this Trin! Just like any good Wuxia stories the relationships between the characters in Ancient Detective are wonderful. I was continually surprised that even a few of the tertiary characters in this drama have depth and even growth. I am hopeful for a second season, at least it looks like the writer of the original story is indicating that there will be!

I\’m currently 15 episodes into Fake Princess and I\’m really enjoying this drama ❤️ I just saw Eleanor in My Love, Enlighten Me which got me interested in seeing this drama, and she is just as great in this. Her character is strong, smart, independent and loyal. Her ML is adorable, kind, and trusting and perfectly played by Zhao Yi Qin. Iโ€™ve never seen him in a drama before but he is also a very talented actor. But their romance is so sweet and even though some drama worked its way into their romance both characters chose to trust each other and their love. I even like the side characters and their romances. The drama overall is sweet and fun with a super adorable OTP that I highly suggest. I mean, look at them!

    I’ve watched Fake Princess to episode 5 and I agree it’s a enjoyable watch as female lead is so clever and make lead is a total mushir and trusts easily which is a good thing here! But, this drama didn’t make me loose my sleep to bone watch or anything so it’s just a way watch. I started watching this drama as I liked the ML in Salute to my youthv and FL in My love, enlighten me.

      Oh it’s not my favorite drama out there but it’s still really fun and enjoyable! And I love both the main characters (and actors) so that helps!

      I was looking forward to My Girl because I thought it was a gender reversal (she was the CEO he is her personal assistant) but he is the CEO and she has mental health issues and I lost interest when I learned that. But after seeing this I think I’ll give it a go for the ML.

Day 15: Best Drama Villain

This was really hard for me because I was trying to decide between a villain who is logically the better villain, and the other who is one of my favorite characters but not necessarily the better villain. Unsurprisingly both antagonists have a similar trajectory so I clearly have a villain type. But I ultimately went with the illogical choice because I love his character so much and that is Runyu from Ashes of Love.

His character is more than him being the antagonist, he had a full and heartbreaking story. His trajectory from being the sweet and patient Night Deity, to actively working against his brother the main character makes sense. He wasn\’t evil for the sake of being evil. He starts out caring and loving his younger brother, but due to the way he is treated, and some horrific and horrible situations he is put through, he turns bitter and hateful. These events jade him and turns him into someone who will fight tooth and nail for the last thing he feels he deserves, the kind woman who showed him compassion and caring. But even that isn\’t his and by the end he has turned her into an idea of salvation he is desperate not to lose. He may have been the villain but he broke my heart.

    I actually found him pitiful more than โ€˜evilโ€™….. The only thing I wasnโ€™t impressed with was how he used Jin Mi to kill Xu Feng, and then tried to justify it ☹️☹️☹️☹️ The confrontation scene between Run Yu & Jin Mi, though sad, is actually one of my favourite parts of the entire drama. I never questioned whether he loves her or notโ€”I really believe that he doesโ€” but his love took a backseat to his own resentful heart the moment he used Jin Mi into manipulating the whole marriage situation in front of Water God and the moment he cooked up the plan to use Jin Mi to kill Xu Feng 😱

      He’s definitely an antagonist but he was never ‘evil’. And he definitely did bad things which is why he was an antagonist. And yes by the end he was more in love with the idea of her than in love with her. He had built up in his mind what it would mean if she loved him and I think he loved that more than her. He felt like he could only achieve happiness through her.

Day 14: Most Underrated Drama

It’s a crime that Mother didn’t get more recognition then what it got. It was a beautiful and heart wrenching drama about the love between mothers and daughters. Hye-Na may not have been Soo-Jin’s biological daughter, but that didn’t stop her from loving her just as deeply and risking everything to save and protect her. And not just this relationship, but the relationship between Soo-Jin and her mother was beautifully heartbreaking. The whole drama was brilliantly written, directed and acted and I highly suggest everyone go watch this amazing drama.

            Exactly how I feel!
            The actors fit their roles so well. Bright and Win made the simple romance work <3 I got hooked after seeing the first episode. The OSTs are good, too. I love Wat's voice ;A: and when Tine starts singing with him? Ah~ my heart. I want more of this as well. Hope we get another BL with the same vibe.

That would be Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. Had a cute OTP with good chemistry but everything else outside of that was awful.

      That was the issue, the writing was so disjointed and terrible. The gangsters, the poorly written gay man (whose sexuality was just a joke), the jarring genre shift to the psychopath, the 2MLs whole identity was being a cop and had no personality outside of that, and the constant bathroom humor.

      AMH was a gem though ❤

        Yep agree to everything you said. Also, I went into to this show ready to have a severe second male lead syndrome because of Jisoo, but Jisoo totally under performed in this drama. I want to forget he was in this drama. And every single episode I fell for Ahn Min Hyuk.

Day 11: Worst Kiss

This is an easy one because every kiss from Love O2O was nightmare inducing, especially the first kiss. What confuses me about the kisses is her expressions don’t match what she is supposed to be emoting. In their first kiss they are already dating but she looks like she is in pain mixed with confusion, like why is this man I’m dating kissing me. You later find out she was embarrassed but the actress (who is a pretty awful actress) failed miserably in showing that. And sadly she looks this horribly awkward in every scene 🙄 it doesn’t help that I hate this drama and only finished it because I was hate watching it.

Since I don’t want to be alone in my misery I’ll kindly allow everyone else to view this nightmare inducing kiss.

Honorable Mention: Almost every Park Shin Hye kiss

Day 10: Favorite Kiss

This would be every kiss in Witch\’s Romance. This was my first ever Park Seo-Joon drama so I didn\’t know how talented this man\’s mouth could be until later *cough*. But I rewatched so many kiss scenes in this drama, especially the spilled beer, lick kiss. I love passionate, well-done kisses and this hit the spot. I love this drama but I don\’t remember a lot of the drama outside of the kisses 😅 one thing that really stood out to me was a lot of dramas at the time only showed wooden, press yours lips sedately together kisses. So I was shockingly surprised when they showed so much passion on the screen. I think it\’s time to rewatch some kiss scenes 😚

Day 9: Favorite Secondary Couple

This definitely is Cha Hyeon and Seol Ji-hwan from Search WWW. I loved this relationship more than the main OTP. I already had a major girl crush on Scarlett so when she went all adorably fangirl on Ji-Hwan I couldn\’t help but fall even more in love with her. And I loved that SJH was so sweet towards Scarlett. What started out as thankfulness at her help and dedication, slowly turned into a sweet romance. I could watch a whole drama of these 2 being adorable together.

It also managed to introduced the very talented Lee Jae-wook to me. ❤
