The premise of #ItaewonClass bugs me. This brilliant 18 yr old girl dedicates her time/”life” to make an average 27 yr guy “amazing” whilst wrestling for his love against another brilliant, beautiful, driven woman who also just happens to love him.

The average dude is worth these two amazing women (well, one woman & one girl) because he’s got integrity, a heart of gold, honour & life has treated him unfairly. Never mind that he’s an ex con and all that, he’s got lots of potential.

I…don’t like it. :/

Also Kwon Na Ra & Kim Da Mi are putting up a superb, compelling performance & that’s the only reason I’m watching. I’m okay on Park Seo Joon. This is not a stunning performance & not his best work – I can imagine a dozen other actors pulling off the same role in the same way.

By ep 5, I think I’ve had enough.

I’m intrigued by the comic book style it has going as well as Kim Da Mi and Lee Joo Young’s characters. And as someone pointed out (@egads I believe), it’s kind of a reverse candy trope (with Park Seo Joon being the candy). I’ll be fast forwarding most of the evil chaebol antics.

Reverse candy is a good observation. It kind of is..but also isn’t? I think Saeroyi somehow still retains a lot of “power” and “autonomy” – as in, it’s still very entrenched in traditional Asian ideas despite being otherwise okay? Like the cool transgender character.

I like what you say about comic book style. Definitely evident in their hairstyles and obvious identification marks. 🙂 Now that you point it out, I sort of see it and it’s nice indeed

Honestly? The moment I heard about the premise my first thought was “the author is a guy”.
Then again, majority of kdramas are two highly successful, charming guys spending time on an average girl with a heart of gold, who was treated unfairly by life.
    *Eye roll*
I would definitely prefer if none of those tropes excited and shows had a realistic, belivable lovelines.
The average girl meets an average guy and they both work hard to become brilliant.
The brilliant Ceo meets a brilliant lawyer or someone with the same outlook on life/goals and they fall in love.
