You’ve watched The Last Empress and feels that it is so extra, so makjang? 🤭

I present to you ‘Baker King Kim Tak Gu’. I feel you havent expereinced true primetime drama makjang if you havent watched BKKTG. The drama that introduced me to YSY and JW and also catapulted them to ultimate drama fame. It had 50% ratings. Imo, its the makjang of all prime time drama makjangs.

Some stuff i remember from BKKTG, i watched this when it aired back in 2010:
1. Birth secret
2. Missing mum turn rich
3. Underdog male lead
4. Exploding oven
5. Male lead temporarily lost his eyesight
6. Male lead temporarily lost his ability to taste
7. Male lead can still bake with no vision or tastebuds
8. 2nd male lead got the female lead
9. Bromance
10. Bread. Lots and lots of bread. Sometimes theres cake.
11. A scheming mum/stepmum
12. Step bro jealousy
13. Evil plans to get inheritance
14. And much much more…..

The drama was the most searched item in 2010. It also lead to a boom in bakery sales and mushrooming of bakery stores. Apparently audiences where attached to the show because of its underdog vs society theme~ it was the national drama of 2010 and some still remember it till this day. Even YSY gets called takgu now and then by elders on 1n2ds 🤣

P/s: Lets not compare with daily or morning dramas, that is on another scale, its where the epic kimchi slap gif is from. I tried watching a daily drama and boy oh boy i stopped midway. Hahaha 😆

    I have planned to watch this but I’m still struggling with Doctor Romantic (from the same writer of takgu) and now I know it’s a makjang drama. Thanks I think I’ll drop it from my watch list.

      Awww. I didnt mean to steer you away from BKKTG. During the old days it was so much fun waiting for new episodes and wanting to see what will happen to tak gu and also ma jun.

        No, it’s okay. I think I just have to accept that I’m not a fan of this writer. Fox Bride Star was a sinker and so does Romantic Doctor.

    I watched it for Joo Won and honestly I don’t think I could watch it again 😂 So so so makjang! I think I was already grossed out by the opening scene where the master of a house seduced his maid?

    The love line was so uninteresting that I don remember what was it about. Did they both like the same girl but Joo Won ended up with her?

      I think so. Eugene was their childhood friend? But YSY and eugene liked each other. I cant recall how she ended up getting married to majun. Maybe it was for revenge or something. Haha. Its so long ago i cant recall much 🤣

        Yep – Ma Jun offered her revenge against his mother. And of course Yoo Kyung felt she was too flawed for Tak Goo and that she and Ma Jun were very similar.

      @ryunami and @korfan Kimchi slap was from a daily drama : everybody kimchi! 🤣. Baker king had some awesome slaps but i cant find a gif to share hahaha

        @katakwasabi Oh ok, a daily drama. If everything in that particular drama was as extra as that kimchi slap, then that was one over the top drama!

        I did watch Baker King and yes, that one had all kinds of things going on, just like you mentioned!

    Back then, I am loyal viewer of BKKTG
    and now, I’m really enjoying The Last Empress..
    and to make it even better/worse… I also watched Temptation of wife 🙈

    I didn’t realized I have such a long story with makjang drama until this day

    so, does it mean I am (unconsciously) a fan of makjang?? 😱😅

      We are covert makjang fans hahaha. If its done right its highly entertaining. Baker king had not much humor, but i still tuned in to see what happens next. I like the last empress too. I want to see sunny get her revenge and the emperor to fall flat along with yura hehehe

    I actually loved the female lead/second male lead romance – it was so totally dysfunctional.

    Yes my first making drama! This is the reason why my friends are wary about watching kdramas.. I may have ranted about the fact he lost his sight/smell for the bread making. It was an emotional time.
