Lee Dong-wook off to basic training next week

Next up: actor Lee Dong-wook is beginning his military service next week. He enlists on August 24.

He had looked at postponing his enlistment date, as he is currently filming Bean Paste, a movie with Lee Yo-won. However, that did not go as hoped, and he will be reporting to the army training facility in Nonsan next week.

As a result, Lee is planning on filming through his very last day, August 23. A source with the film said, “Lee Dong-wook has a tremendous amount of devotion to this movie. The whole staff is touched to see him putting in his all through the very last.”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I just sat there my eyes wide open when I first read the news.
I'm going to have to watch all his dramas of ever a million times until he comes back. Gosh I already miss him. D: He's changed so much for every drama, his acting skills are basically brilliant now. It's sad to see the men go off, one by one, and disappear for two years but it's for the country I guess. :)
We'll all be waiting. <3

I have always liked him but now I love him after Partner. The drama wasn't the greatest but the two leads are so likable and had amazing chemistry. It's the first time in a long time since I went giddy over the romance in a drama. I have become quite jaded so it was nice to be swooning again.

Kim Rae Won, Jo In Sung, Jae Hee, now Lee Dong Wook!!!

The only ray of sunshine is hat Gong Yoo will be released from military at the end of this year! But who knows when his next project is! He deserves some break too.

I have always loved this guy. In fact, I started to be a big fan of him during his My Girl days so this news came to me by surprise even though there were already a lot of rumors about him joining the army. Two years? That's too long! Way too long that I'm already starting to hate this "two-years-of-military-service" thing. :( Anyway, good luck to him! As much as I hate this news, a part of me thinks that it's already time for LDW to go. Two years maybe a LONG time but we can wait, right? See you after two years LDW! August 2011! Yay! :)

This is really depressing, but I knew it was coming soon (after KRW, I had a feeling LDW would be next). I've always enjoyed watching him and totally loved him in Partner (flawed, but LDW was really fun and he and KHJ had such good chemistry).

I swear LDW gets better with age and it feels like his eyes have become more soulful overtime. There were scenes in Partner where he would just convey his feelings with his eyes and you can't help but feel for him. He has improved so much as an actor and I'm going to really, really miss him on screen.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I feel like he just got back to shooting dramas.....and now he's leaving!
I understand that most actors wait until their in their late 20's to go serve their military duty, but wouldn't it be better to get it done earlier?

I'm gonna miss LDW... he was pretty good in Partner, which seems to be his last kdrama before joining the ranks for that two year service...

Ahhh, the mandatory army service... I'm still sad about all the hotties doing their service now... I miss my Shinhwa boys ~

Javabeans, I heard that they still get vacations... but they just can't go on TV? Is that true?

Oh dear - another one! While I knew he had to go eventually - it seems so sudden. My mum is so going to miss him - she recently started watching 'My Girl' and is loving it (I had told her ages ago she would LOVE it. Sheesh mothers!)

This month's crop of enlistments - first Kim Rae Won and now him - is breaking my heart! But then again they will be back - fitter, stronger and (even) sexier! Thank goodness for DVDs. Not to mention those who have already served their military duties - like (Duty Free) KJH (hehe a pun there!), So Ji Sub and Cha Seung Won.

Slightly off topic - has Yosama (BYJ) served his NS yet? Cause think the ajumma's of JP would be heartbroken if he was to enlist.

i always like him after My Girl, and i like him even more after Partner...
agree with most of other opinions, LDW and KJH has good chemistry with each other...

#26 bspanda, did duty free KJH means he didn't have to serve the military?? why??

and to add another question, has Lee Seon Gyun and Yoon Kye Sang served their military duties yet??

I still hope we can hear something from him. Sort of updates? I heard Gong Yoo had this radio program? Not sure though. :(

Still can't get over. But anyway, they all have to serve the military anyway and I think it's time for LDW to go. :( It's just sad that he had to attend military service (for TWO friggin years!) during the peak of his career. Wookie! :(

Yeah... sobs sobs...

Just finished Partner... (Wookie was really good in the last episode!)...and now I have to face the fact that he's leaving for MS soon. And very soon that is... =(

So many actors that I like have left for MS (eg. KRW, JIS...etc), but Wookie is one that I will miss very very much and dearly.

All the best to him and FIGHTING!!

#28 bbm : I think Kang Ji Hwan had finished his duty years ago..when he was still not famous.
He enlisted early - and then he became famous kinda late. But this also happened with Kwon Sang Woo.

I didn't really like him in My Girl - but now I like him in Partner!

2 years from now ( hopefully ) we'll have them back even sexier! :P ( remember Jang Hyuk and Song Seung Hun's comeback images? )

another one who would surely be missed! he's one of my favorites -- is it just me or he lost a lot of weight & since Bittersweet I noticed he's looking tired? he was so cute in My Girl and Loving You (even). anyway, my other favorites like KRW, KJE, and others left a few months ago & now him. Soon Lee dong gun would also be enlisted...most of the gorgeous guys on my list are leaving! come back soon! take care!

Another one?? This 2-years mandatory MS is getting out-of-hand (and annoying). One after another. What's sad is when they have to leave close to the peak or at the peak of their career - kinda anti-climatic. I guess we must look to the positive side. They'll look much better when they come back in 2 years. And we'll have Goong Yoo back soon.

On another note, I admire LDW's dedication. Haish...that's another reason why it's so difficult to let some of these guys go...

I always wondered how BYJ got out of his military duty.

the glasses he used to wear were fake ones not prescription lenses. He did lots advertisements for an eyeglass firm.

It's a mystery.
