LOLOL BIG BANG COMMERCIAL HI-ITE FINALLY ON!!!! (delay ftw)

I'm still shocked about the Popularity awards turning out the way they were. I'm looking for upsets later on.

Oh neat, a commercial for swine flu preparation!!

And after a few minutes, we begin Part 2 of the MBC Drama Awards . . .

But not before ANOTHER BIG BANG BEER COMMERCIAL HI-ITE!!!

SNSD CM . . . too many of them, really. Get the sense that Yoon-ah hogs the camera a bit.

Watching Moon Geun Young CM and realizing that Go Hyung Jung really looks like a 39-year old MGY.

Rain looks so peaceful. Peaceful. Rain. Sigh.

FINALLY, Part 2's started up . . .

Yoon Sang Hyun is singing a ballad from Queen of Housewives right now.

You know, I think Go Hyun Jung hasn't stepped out of her Mishil character yet. Her stare is intense and unnerving.

The QOH table seems to really enjoy each other's company. Some are singing along. And Sun Woo Sun must be friends with YSH. Really kind look for him.

Ahhh, poor YSH. Right after singing, he has to go straight to presentation with Park Ye Jin (new dress!!)

One of the hosts is talking with Kim Nam Joo and working the QOH table right now.

Watching the QOH table and realizing that Oh Ji Ho isn't here. I guess he's either knee deep in Chuno filming or KBS Drama Awards is prepping something cool for their Chuno promotional bit during their show.

Do feel this year is kinda sad for MBC. Literally there seems to be only two tables here: QSD and QOH. Haven't seen any representation from Friend Our Legend, Return of Iljimae, Tamra, etc. etc.

Geez, they're loving on the Queen of Housewives table. Ok, YSH is a cutie, but honestly - move along people, nothing to see here.

Ohh, fangirls cheering for the QSD table...KNG looks tired. Cute but tired. okay, that was funny. Totally different body language from the QOH table, too. Crikey, Yushin looks way better in modern clothes.

And now to the Table of QSD . . .

Go Hyung Jung . . . looking glamorous (which is rare). . and giggly. Crowd's screaming something and there's a fun back-and-forth between her and the crowd and the host.
Yoo Seung Ho . . . Park Ye Jin's all GIGGLY for her son Chun Chu. LOL Already works it like a smooth criminal.
Kim Nam Gil . . . (screams for audience) . . . looks kinda lost, melancholy and awkward. Waved to Kang Nam Gil (Eugene's dad in Creating Destiny)
Uhm Tae Woong . . . is sex. SO GLAD he looks all normal now.
Lee Yo Won . . . chatty, fun and very professional. Seemed to tease Kim Nam Gil a bit.

WOW, SOHWA LOOKS LIKE THAT?!? She looks . . . healthy! :D

Chil-soo looks like a dorky engineer dad type. So different from the Terminator lol.

Oh wow, is Chil-soo shedding tears or getting choked up?? Wow. Wonder what he's saying. Wow.

Jung Ae-ri and Kang Nam Gil also won awards. Not sure for what though.

POOR BIDAM (errr Kim Nam Gil I mean) WON!!! YAYYYY!!!! KNG definitely looks tired or melancholy, feels out of sorts with all the screaming. :D
Choi Chul Ho (of QOH)

(uhhh, Friend Our Legend got shut out. Binnie and Kim Min Joon were both nominated too. Maybe Top Excellence?)

FEMALE EXCELLENCE AWARD . . .

Lee Hye Young (QOH)
Go Na Eun (Assorted Gems) <-- most emotional speech tonight, a lot of tears

Park Ye Jin was also nominated but didn't win. Kinda feel bad for her, because she's the host for this show. I mean, Choi Jung Won won a KBS acting award because she hosted last year's KBS AWwrds show.

Uhm Tae Wong and an actress from Assorted Gems presenting MOST POPULAR DRAMA. I could be mistaken, but she has a HUGE CRUSH for the UTW. It's adorable, she's hiding behind her card!

QSD won 82.8% of the vote. No real surprise.
But . . .Tamra finished 2nd with 7%. Like I said, the Tamra Netizens were seriously organized!

They just ran thru the Daesangs since 2001. Still rather awkward to see two for 2008 Daesang. Yikes. Guys -- don't do it again this year. DON'T DO IT. :(

Lee Mi Hook (IMPOSSIBLY GLAMOROUS . . . and giving a shoutout to her Actress partner GHJ) and Park Hae Jin presenting . . .

MALE TOP EXCELLENCE AWARD

Uhm Tae Woong . . . happy, laughing, personable (maybe a little drinky drinky?)
Yoon Sang Hyun . . . made a joke to the audience. looked like he may start tearing up. seemed very sincere and grateful in his speech.

FEMALE TOP EXCELLENCE AWARD

Kim Nam Joo. Okay, THIS was the most emotional speech of night. Cried big time.
Lee Yo Won.

Congratulations to Go Hyung Jung. She high-fivesd Kim Nam Gil when she was announced as the winner LOLOL!!

Hmm, kinda strange. She wants to get off the stage, but the host keeps pulling her back LOL. Okay, we get it MBC -- you've been pimping GHJ all night, we know she's going to win the Daesang, we know she's your big star. But the girl just wants to pick up her hardware and go home already!!

Ughhh awkward. I mean, I love GHJ, but she turns into a giggly schoolgirl up there. Just let it go.

Phew!! Glad the show's over. You know, maybe I have such rosy memories of 2007 (when the Yi San crew was goofing it up) , but the MBC Awards show may be the least fun of the three.

"Seriously – the QOH table was WAY happier than the QSD table."

Except for Uhm Tae Woong and Go Hyung Jung, they looked REALLY REALLY tired. No surprise, given that the show finished last week.

I kinda wished MBC would have spread the awards out a bit more. With how they were covering the awards show, it felt like MBC literally had only 3 shows this year. Moreover, it felt a bit like only the people from the 2 shows were at the gathering. Everybody else decided to go to the KBS or SBS bash.

Also, I started feeling uncomfortable with how they were kinda promoting Go Hyung Jung all night. Sure, it's not that different from their Song Seung Heon treatment last year, but GHJ reacted in a giggly teenager sort of way . . . which was first cute, then it got progressively uneasy.

I suspect that since she apparently rarely goes to award shows, that GHJ simply doesn't like them and gets nervous. Alot of actors don't like award shows apparently since they have to be themselves instead of their characters. Or so the only person I know with similar hardware tells me.

Brilliant work, belleza and momosan!! I love the play by play!

I wonder how much the tears and the sobbing during acceptances are manufactured. I will only accept sobbing if, during closeups, I see the nostrils flaring in and out like you can see horses' nostrils flaring during a horse race.

Nostrils flaring like winded horses? Real cries of joy.

Calm nose? Fake crying.

(hmm, i might have to retract this as a theory if we have any plastic surgeons in the house who can verify whether plastic noses can flare... if not, then my test might not be applicable across the board...)

@ 189 serendipity

I was just being silly, of course KSA is spectacutar, and I can easily expand my Five Tigers to be Ten Tigers and feel less like I've missed out a fave of mine.

Anyways, it was more the pairings I was going for. And I stand by my choice of Lee Junki, as much as he's a total prettymanboy goofball at times, he always commits to his characters a thousand percent, and I've never walked away from a Junki show thinking he was not delivering (I have walked away thinking the plot and writing and direction wasn't delivering). Have you seen The King and the Clown?

Time Between Dog and Wolf is a fave drama of mine, somewhere near the top of the list, and it moved up with each re-watch (I've seen it 3 times now). The first time I saw it, I was okay, really kinda meh, about it. Then I picked it up months and months later, and suddenly really got into it, and loved it by the end. And finally, on my third rewatch, I *get* the drama even more. I think with all the slickness of IRIS, a few comments is that it's all style with no heart. For a spy/revenge drama, TBDAW is all heart. Doesn't hurt that Junki looks freaking fantabulous in this drama, or that he is paired up with Nam Sang-mi, who can do no wrong in my eyes (I loved her in Bad Family).

Anyways, it may not be for everyone, but TBDAW was a winner for me. ;-)

Oh, and I'm totally with you on reminiscing about young Andy Lau. In ROCH, he still had his baby fat in his cheeks, for crissakes he was so young! And he really really carried the drama, his was the heart and soul of that story, since his love interest was a literal block of ice (no kidding, Louis Cha, you make a woman be renowned as the most beautiful being on this planet, and then you give her the personality of a BLOCK OF ICE, yeah, no wonder @ mookie mentioned your tendency to jack your female leads).

Anyways, my fave Andy performances was his turn in ROCH, his turn in Duke with Tony (Tony is Andy's twisted doppleganger in career trajectory), and lastly, his turn in God of Gamblers II. Infernal Affairs and his more blockbuster works, I'm not a fan of. He also did a good turn in Shanghai Grand with Leslie. It's clear Andy is better as a second lead later in his career as he just doesn't have the natural acting gravitas without seeming like he's trying too hard.

Still, young Andy, like young Tony, and young Leslie, is and always will have a special place in my heart. Love that so many OT-ers watched these boys become men in the 80s.

@samsooki,

"I wonder how much the tears and the sobbing during acceptances are manufactured."

Hmm, that's a fair point. Kim Nam Joo was definitely emotional, but it mostly came from her voice not her facial expression. Hmm. Whereas it's not surprising for the rookie actresses to cry up there, as this is their first real recognition.

@momosan,

"GHJ simply doesn’t like them and gets nervous."

True, true. When I saw her on Golden Fishery, she was in laughing fits. She kinda comes across as a teenager in that way, I guess. Her reaction to winning the award was kinda childish in an endearing sort of way. She was like "Borat win!! high five!!" :D

I kinda wish J-dorama would do a TV Awards show, instead of merely publishing them in a newspaper.

Thank you so much for the play by play! Though I do wish they had spread the awards around as well. But Alcheon won Best Newcomer---AWESOME! And I bow in presence of LJK's star power. Actually I kind of wonder sometimes whether in terms of Asia (and not just Japan) whether LJK's staying power is greater than a lot the main Hallyu stars. Also am glad that Tamra has won a lot of popularity awards!

@serendipity
The only experience I had of watching Jay Chou act was watching Initial D and it wasn't that good. But the fact that I was watching it in Chinese w/o subs made it really difficult to watch since I understood only half of it. I've heard much better things about his second movie that he produced and acted in called Secret. But it seems like he's not the main actor in this Twdrama, and the rest seems like newcomers maybe?

On CitC, I won't spoil the ending...but I thought it was perfect and it really depends on how you view it and some people might not agree. But would love to hear your thoughts on it once you finish :)

Hmm, not sure which show I want to do tonight (and TVants isn't fast enough to switch back and forth.)

KBS will have stars from Iris, BBF, MFL, and probably a short blurb promoting Chuno (Oh Ji Ho was a no-show for the MBC, so presumably he's getting ready for his big Chuno promo. And we got Jang Hyuk too.) YSH was such a darling during the MBC show, that I want to see him again. Kinda hoping for Lee Min Ho and YEH to present together.

SBS will have YAB, BL, Temptation of Wife, and Angel Temptation. I might see So Ji Sup and Han Ji Min and WE"RE GOING TO HAVE LIVE ANJELL and and and . . .

Sigh. SO hard, you know? Actually come to think of it, the fact that Bae Soo Bin, Go Soo, and So Ji Sup (*gasp* Belleza just had one!) are going to do the same show doesn't make it tough at all. But then again, Jang Hyuk, Lee Byung Hun, and Lee Min Ho. (And theoretically, we may see Song Hye Kyo -- from last year's World That They Live In -- AND Kim Tae Hee present on the same show. WITH my deadbeat father-of-my-children LEE BYUNG HUNG in the audience. This will never happen EVER again!!) Omo omo!! :(

"Actually I kind of wonder sometimes whether in terms of Asia (and not just Japan) whether LJK’s staying power is greater than a lot the main Hallyu stars."

Among the 20-something actors, the big three in China are Rain, Hyun Bin, and Lee Jung Ki. I think Lee Jung Ki is ahead of Binnie. It's kind of a shame that each will be facing military duty soon. That pretty much leaves Jang Geon Suk alone as the top-20 something Hallyu star.

belleza, you could put one in TVU and the other in LiveStation. I just tried it on my computer and it'll stream both at the same time but the effect is slightly bizarre with the sound on. With the sound off it's doable but still pretty weird. OTOH, whatever the heck they are playing on SBS right now is being uber-dramatic in a soap opera way.

my friends, is how it's supposed to sound.....(well, without the stupid ad at the beginning)
I realize I may be the only person in the group who knows their Dru Hill - unless someone my age from Baltimore is on here - but seriously....if you've ever heard Dru Hill do this a capella, you are now devoutly wishing they had picked another song.

Please please k-pop groups - do not murder Dru Hill songs - if you do this again in public, I'll send the link along to them and they'll be on the next plane out of BWI to smack you upside the head. They are a little busy now since their new albums are in production - do not make me do it. Just don't go there. That is all.

(and now the denizens of dramabeans are wondering just why someone with the moniker momosan knows her Dru Hill - let's just say I've had a long and misspent life, including a stint not far from the actual Dru Hill.....LOL!...I've listened to these guys since they worked at the Inner Harbor)
