Question:

What new thing have you done in the name of K-drama?
I answer my text message like Ra Im in Secret Garden.

Has becoming a K-drama watcher made you start eating kimchi, travel to Korea, or switch to soju as your drink of choice? Yes, I have try kimchi cause of the kdramas I have watch. It's a lot more spicier than I thought it would have been that is for sure.

I want to travel to korea as well, I want to visit Han River and see if I can listen into any secretive plans^^

I also want to try soju, every kdrama I ever saw, always have their characters drinking it so now it got me thinking it must be some seriously good drink for them to drink almost everyday like that.

Tell us about some way in which watching dramas has changed your everyday life. I notice that recently I have been making aegyo expressions that I have seen in kdrama. Not only the cute expression but i also notice i say "u wanna die" a lot these days.

I have greater interest in fashion goodies that I see in the dramas, like I start shopping online trying to get some of the clothes i saw in the dramas. Like that cute sweater worn by nana in city hunter.

After watching so many kdramas, I want to learn korean, I want to be able to speak the language before I make my trip to korea.

My taste in music is different too, like recently I watch period drama, warrior baek dong soo, and I love the soundtrack in that drama. I rarely listen to songs like that but after hearing that soundtrack. I start looking around for other songs like that.

I also taken to sitting on the floor a lot like in the kdramas. I have been taking to take off my shoes by the door and putting on my inside shoes now.

Omg! For a while I didnt even know that I was changing in the name of Kdramas. I started saying the little words that I know in Korean in my everyday conversations. Lol now instead of goodbye, I say "Anyo" or when I'm joking around I say "Saraghae". Those kind of one-liners. My Asian friends bug me all the time about it.
I started trying Korean style food too! I immitate at home by mixing rice and mix-match stuff in a bowl to make bibimbap! I know. But whatever, I love it! ;p
Also dramas introduced me to loving variety and the Kpop scene. I love running man and some artists are on my Ipod. Just sayin', I wake up to Right Now by Psy!! lol! I'm in love with the culture and am planning a trip there in the near furture. Yeah!! :D

I actually went out and bought a Korean language textbook and workbook and am slowly teaching myself Korean. I found out that an owner of a local restaurant is from Korea and loves K-dramas too, so every time I go there, we chat about our favorite actors and scenes.

I am planning a kimchi making party with my friends soon! I also tried soju and really did not care for it...but I also tried makgeolli and liked it more than I thought I would!

I have become obsessed with anything and everything Korean. I have started to learn the BEAUTIFUL language, I sometimes use it around my brothers and they think I am the WEIRDEST person on earth. I have over 3000 songs on my iPod and over 1/2 of those songs are K-pop or OSTs from the zillion kdramas I've seen. All I hear is K-pop, on occasion I listen to my native language bands and English ones too. But very rarely. I haven't gone into a Korean restaurant yet, but I have practiced making several Korean dishes. Some are a success and some not so edible. lol. >.< Once after watching Thank You, I went on a Choco Pie hunt and when I found them I bought 2 boxes. And after watching Tazza, I picked up a deck of hwatu cards and played Go Stop, funnest game out there!

As for me, I would say watching K dramas defunitely affected my everyday life 100%.
I started to go to Yakson Myungga in Ktown NYC, because I envied how K stars look so pretty (I know it sounds vanity but hey! Its true! Kdrama stars are pretty). And I thought if I want to be as flawless and pretty as them might as well go to "the place" that makes them pretty. Another thing, In the beginning of 2011 I started to enrol in a language class, ofcourse Korean (한국어). I am in my level 4 now. I want to learn the language simply because I want to understand each dialogue without subtitles. There are also some times that it takes awhile before the dramas get subbed. In addition, there are times that subs get lost in translation. I may still not fluent but atleast I am improving in terms of reading, speaking and understanding the dramas I watch.
Before I get hooked with kpop/kdrama I never liked Korean food, because I simply hate vegetables. But now, I cannot survive without eating korean food atleast once a week. I love bulgogi, kbbq, and surprisingly kimchi! I also started to change my utensils in my apartment, I use stainless chopsticks, stainless rice and side dishes bowls and spoons with long handles. I switched my hair salon too to a Korean salon. My ipod has only kpop and kdrama OST! Lastly, this year my friends and I will be visiting S.Korea to see first hand the places/sights that we usually see in dramas!
These may sound crazy, but I think its fun! It feels like living the Kdrama!

Thanks!

K-dramas? Oh dear lord. It made me obsessively buy kitchen tools to eat just like they do in all the K-dramas. It sort of began with Only You (my first ever k-drama) where I went and bought a stove-top grill so I could learn to make samgyeopsal. Then one day, after an episode of Goong, I ended up learning to make bibimbaps and bulgogi randomly.

What pushed me over the edge was Coffee Prince. I HAD to buy the Hario v60 type of coffee pour-over filters so I could learn to make coffee like they did. I also bought a milk aerator to make frothy milk for latte art. AND I also scoured ALL KOREAN RESTAURANTS OF NYC TO GET A TASTE OF JAJANGMYUN!!! (God, I was obsessed.) I had to live, eat, BREATHE Coffee Prince. Insane!

Oh man. This is a loaded question. I'll try to keep this brief.

Kdramas has gotten me to do all that stuff you've mentioned: the Korean BBQ + KIMCHI + BIBIMBAP eating frenzy (I loved it before but now it's just ridiculous. And all my clothes smelled at one point...), a planned trip to Korea/Japan next year throwing in a visit to Jeju Island, drinking soju because I'm able to drink a lot of it without getting totally smashed...right away.
It's also had its moments of seriously messing with my schedule. Considering I'm an architecture student, it's put me a few paces back. But whatever! I enjoyed every bit of when Boys Before Flowers came out...eye candy hehe. Most of my winter and summer breaks are dedicated to taking my laptop wherever I go around the house with a drama (whether a new one, a drama I'm catching up on, or re-watching some of my favs) playing like nonstop. Kdramas as a reason for losing sleep over and losing a little touch with the outside world? Acceptable!
I've also taken a MAJOR interest in Korean fashion. I love almost everything the actors and actresses are styled in. Recently, I just had a "little" shopping spree on YesStyle for brands from South Korea. Hello, thick knit circle scarves and loose fitting button-up shirts!

Essentially, I love it all! If I could take a class on Korean language, I'd do it hands down. I mean, knowing a little would help for when I find myself there one day. :D

watching k-dramas has made me more open. i try to be like all the heroines- more outgoing and more open rather than stay shy forever. with all the relationships in them, i want to believe that i can meet someone who'll give me piggy back rides too. k-dramas have made me believe in love :)

I’m a Hispanic girl who started watching Korean drama at random or more by chance… I also never really paid attention to Asian men, I mean I wasn’t racist they just never crossed my interest, but after watching Korean drama there really at the top of my list. My job entitles customer service and I find myself blushing when dealing with Asian guys, or when I’m out in public my friends seem to notice that I often check out Asian men.

My first all-nighter was, naturally, for a drama (2 Outs in the 9th Inning to be precise!), and on a school night too. Shame my parents found out about that one.
Apart from that, my obsession did, of course, also make me attempt to learn Korean and listen to K-pop. The former is still a definite goal of mine which I'll pursue in uni - as for the latter, however... not really my thing I suppose.

The new thing I have done in the name of K-drama : Making Hwajeon. I made a trip from Jakarta to Jogja (my hometown) just to pick edible flower from my sister's garden, to make Hwajeon. I really wanted to make Hwajeon after watching Family Outing episode Cha Seung-won. And then I found the recipe in maangchi.com, but couldn't found the edible flower. So I picked my sister's beautiful and fresh roses :D

Next, I will grow my own edible flower..

Congratulations to the winners!!!

Okay, what new things have I done in the name of K-dramas?

Hmmm…..let’s see……..I have pulled my first all-nighter for something other than studying.

K-dramas and K-movies had made me give up on Hollywood, Bollywood and Tollywood (another Indian language films) because firstly I at least expect one awkward kissing scene, one shower brooding scene and some makjang that others lack and secondly I have no time!!! I literally eat, drink, sleep and breathe K-dramas.

They even got me into K-pop and made me get up at sharp 8:00 am on my usually super lazy Sundays (which was pre K-drama heaven) because there is K-pop playing on SBS for two hours (this is not the Seoul Broadcasting System but stands for Special Broadcast Service in my country….).

Other than that I freak out when I hear people speaking Korean. I am always looking out for them because I want to make some Korean friends (but I haven’t succeeded yet…)!!

I have had times when I looked up online for English teaching jobs in South Korea so I can travel there…I am just waiting to finish my degree which is further 3 years from now…so until then I will just immerse myself in more K-dramas……

Thanks, javabeans and girlfriday for the giveaways!!

I listened to kpop (which I hated before) after watching Protect the Boss... I tried eating Kimchi though I'm not much of a fan of spicy foods... I also bought Soju from a convenience store which got me into a fight with the cashier 'coz he does not want to believe I'm already 19... and I tried a million times to learn the Korean language which apparently was so much harder than reading a book I buy every time I go to National Bookstore

As with many people, i started eating kimchi, bibimbap, kimchi stew, etc etc. I started appreciating Korean's culture, and their heritage. I started listening to k-pop and downloading drama's ost. I started blurting out korean vocabulary to my friends. I started infleuncing the people around me to watch k-drama, etc etc.

But most unexpectedly, I have never like history in the past... However, thanks to all the saguek/historical dramas, I started searching web and reading up on their history!! =p

Since watching Korean Dramas, I've also wanted to learn Korean along with wanting to eat bibimbap and own a hanbok. I have since then paid for a membership to learn Korean on a website. I'm not very adventurous with food but I have tried mapo dofu at the local Korean restaurant here. I haven't yet been able to afford a hanbok but I still hope to one day when I am rich by marrying a hot chaebol.

I've tried doing the aegyo thing but yeah, that doesn't really work with the people I hang out with. THey think I'm super weird. I've done the FIGHTING gesture and I get stares. But when people call me a k-drama addict, it only makes me proud.

Truthfully speaking, K-drama changed my whole lifestyle. Ever since Ive started watching dramas, I've been hooked onto things they do in dramas. Eating ramyun from a pot lid, speaking some famous korean lines (you'll be blessed!), even changing the way I dress into k-fashion (I've had no fashion sense whatsoever before k-dramas came into my life). Also my family has been hooked onto korean food ever since we started watching their dramas too. Dang, how k-drama affected my whole darn life.

Also, my roommate already knows that the last thing I'm watching before going to sleep is my Asian dramas. I'm so addicted..

Watching KDramas has made me an avid eater of ramen. I never understood the appeal before I started watching. Flavored, dehydrated noodles that won't expire in my lifetime? No.
... Then I watched The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. The ramen? Gorgeous. I couldn't get my hands on the black noodles, so I had to settle for regular chicken flavored cup ramen. That was horrible, but it just looked SO GOOD on the screen, I couldn't give up.
I ventured into an Asian market, where I found the perfect noodles. We lived happily ever after. The End.
I'm going to be studying abroad in Korea next year, also. I've been taking classes for about 2 years now. I'm pretty proficient.

EAT!!!
Samgyeopsal. Ddokbokki. Galbi. Jajangmyeon. Kimbap. Kimchi. Kimchi jigae. Bulgogi. Mandu.....

I can order in Korean at the kbbq. Not that I do, I leave that to my friend who actually do speak Korean (I swear, we get more meat and kimchi that way.) But oh, the food. Back from college at home, the first thing I went out to eat was ddokbokki. Might I mention, I'm not Korean, lol. But nope, disregarded my Chinese heritage and my should-be craving for that food (I went without Asian food ALL SEMESTER), I went out for ddokbokki. And stone-pot tofu. And kbbq. And kimchi mandu....I am so lucky I live in a city with a gigantic Korean population.

Sooooo good. I think I've researched way too much up on Korean food. Plus in my dorm, I have this gigantic case of Shin Ramyun just for emergencies (er. Which happen quite often.)

I've started trying to learn Korean. At least how to read hangul and recognize all the symbols, even if I have no idea what's going on. The first time I understood an entire sentence, I was so proud...it was "She's so pretty." Yes, I do indeed remember it.

I bow to everyone. Or nod my head. And everyone laughs but I can't stop doing it! Every time there's an adult or teacher or something, I nod my head or bow slightly. It's gotten to the point where it just happens when I don't even think about it.

I got an external harddrives filled with K-dramas, K-pop and K-music, K-variety shows, pictures of K-entertainers...need I go on? In fact. I got the external harddrive FOR this.

I started stalking Dramabeans. I mean. Back when I first found Dramabeans it was like...when you guys first started, there were barely any recaps, and I was just a normal, non-obsessive person.

....I can't even remember when those days were now. WAIT THE EPISODE OF XXX DRAMA CAME OUT DRAMABEANS WHERE'S MY RECAP NOWWWWW?? is the me of today.

I know more about Korean traditions and entertainment than a lot of my born-in-America Korean friends. They laugh. I just proudly go on because it's just too awesome.

K-drama and K-pop has affected my life in the following ways:
-saying random korean words in converstaions
-reading manwha and celebrity news (the second is just to make sure Gong yoo hasn't married)
-buying two iphone hard cases, one with Hyun Bin, and the second with Lee min ho.
-screwing up my sleep patterns by staying up all night and sleeping all day watching and re watching my favorite k-dramas.
-visiting Dramabeans everyday for the latest (also to make sure Gong yoo hasn't married yet)
-Buying korean products on ebay...did you know that I found a site that sells the green snow man sweat shirt Gi ryme wares in Secret Garden!!
-I am always talking about k-dramas to my friends who don't get it...thats why I love the 4th dimention of Dramabeans and fans...acceptance.

Since I started watching kdramas it has been part of my daily routine to find news on current, past, and future kdramas; which is how I found this wonderful site. I now check dramabeans everyday and usually read recaps in the morning while I eat or when I'm commuting to school. I've also looked up korean recipes; particularly how I can make kimchi and dukkbokki on my own but I'm still in the process of gathering ingredients (because I substitute any meat or meat based ingredients as a vegan).
However, I have to say that the strangest is that sometimes I catch myself using Korean expressions, like "Ya!" when I get annoyed XD, and my college has alot of korean-speaking students so sometimes I unintentionally listen in or understand some of what they say.
Watching kdramas also got me into kpop because I watched Full House and then kinda wanted to know more about Rain so I researched him and found out he could sing too :). But there was also youtube and the popularity of kpop videos that led me into kpop. I check for news in kpop everyday too.

Thanks again for doing this giveaway and happy anniversary!!!
