Healer: Episode 15

Sweet! It’s a breath of fresh air to be able to sit back and bask for a while, because I dunno about you guys but I could use some recovery time from all the weeping and heart-wringing I did before. And with the plot continuing to speed along, I actually find myself able to enjoy the cheeriness more, because while I love romantic fluff (and would happily take tons of it, angst-free), you don’t always want it to happen at the expense of development, because then it feels like filler. Better to get adorable cuteness and forward movement in one fell swoop!

EPISODE 15 RECAP

So, that kiss. As Jung-hoo finally stops pushing Young-shin away and kisses her, it intercuts with memories of their first one on that rooftop, finally bringing together those two identities into one.

A short while later, we see two mugs side by side on the table, two sets of shoes intermingled on the floor, and two people lying in bed next to each other. Okay, the drama didn’t show us anything, but just knowing that they got an offscreen bed scene makes me happy enough.

Jung-hoo contentedly watches Young-shin sleeping, and looks adorably disgruntled when she starts to turn away from him in her sleep. He slowly slides his arm under her shoulders, and as she turns back into his side, he cradles her with both arms, going back to sleep with her head tucked under his.

When she wakes up, the spot next to her is empty, and she stretches awake… and finds Jung-hoo still looking down at her from the other side. They smile bashfully at each other, and then he ducks under the covers to join her.

Another cut later (yay! Y’know, I’m just going to be happy for them that there’s so much need to presumably cut), and Young-shin towel dries her hair after a shower. Jung-hoo takes over the task, and for a brief moment her eyes are covered by the towel, her mouth exposed, not unlike it was during their rooftop kiss. Ha, he goes in for one, only to have her inadvertently interrupt him by pulling the towel, and she catches him staring.

Later as he watches her yet some more, he envelops her in a hug and thinks, “I thought it was a dream. I don’t usually dream much, and wondered why this one was lasting so long.” As Young-shin tends to his injured arm, he can’t keep his hands to himself, touching her head and cradling her in his lap, adding, “So I kept needing to confirm whether it was real, or maybe not. And then I would think, Is it okay for this to be real?

He really can’t leave her alone for even a second, needing to hold on every moment, even when she’s doing something as mundane as cooking. He hovers around, dangling over her shoulder, and when she pushes back for some room, he just sneaks a kiss. And you know, she doesn’t really mind that so much.

He insists on walking her out, and she waves goodbye and boards the bus… only to have him step onto the bus at the last minute. He pulls her into the last row and squeezes her into the corner, loath to let any opportunity to be together pass him by.

Young-shin concedes to let him tag along for just one stop, but she can’t really pretend to be annoyed for very long and they cuddle some more. So he gets off at the next stop, and they wave goodbye for ages as her bus pulls away.

Back at home, Jung-hoo logs back online and talks to Min-ja, saying that he’s getting confused between real and fake, particularly since Healer work requires him to take on fake identities. Every time he steps out into the world, he’s been somebody else, “But when I’m with her I have to be real.”

He pauses to wonder, “But the real me? What is that? Does that exist?”

Ajumma just grumbles that he’s thinking too much, and that he shouldn’t: “When you think, you cause trouble.” Jung-hoo thanks her sincerely, to which she responds by totally ignoring him, because we know she’s a gruff ol’ teddy bear. And when Jung-hoo heads out “to find the real me,” she sighs that it’s time for a switch. She must mean Healers.

When Moon-ho arrives home, he’s surprised to find Jung-hoo waiting for him with a conciliatory six-pack of beer. Moon-ho’s glad to see him, and says he was worried.

He asks if Young-shin knows about his identity, and Jung-hoo says she figured it out. He’s thinking over how much he should tell her, but she isn’t asking any questions. Moon-ho catches on with a smile: “You like Ji-an. That’s why you can’t tell her—who she is, who her father is, or about your father.” Moon-ho asks for his understanding since that’s how he was—he liked Myung-hee and Ji-an, and therefore couldn’t tell them what he knew.

Jung-hoo gets down to business, saying that he wants revenge for Teacher’s death, and to clear his father’s name. He also wants to know when he can tell Young-shin her mother is alive. Moon-ho readily agrees, but wants to wait to tell Young-shin until it’s safe for Myung-hee—so, after they’ve accomplished the first two goals.

Jung-hoo doesn’t argue, and asks what method Moon-ho has come up with for taking down their evildoers. Moon-ho replies that he only has one way: “The method used by your father and Chae Young-shin’s father, the method I’ve only imitated my whole life. Do you want to try it with me for real?”

They drink to it, and Jung-hoo adds that Moon-ho was right about him liking Young-shin: “Just know that.” Moon-ho just smiles knowingly.

With that, they get to work. Moon-ho debriefs Jung-hoo on the facts: Moon-shik began working for the Elder in 1992. He struck out on his own years later, and the Elder sent him Secretary Oh, who’s got a few false identities, including that of a lawyer.

“The relationship between those two is quite interesting,” Moon-ho says, describing Moon-shik and his secretary as the two sides of a coin. With Secretary Oh carrying out all the dirty work, Moon-shik gets to keep his image pristine. Moon-ho notes that sometimes it really seems like his brother believes he’s done nothing wrong, like he can’t remember, and that’s why Moon-ho was fooled for so long.

That certainly seems true as Moon-shik arrives at the hospital to deal with Teacher’s funeral arrangements, calling him a dear friend and wanting only the finest. He looks genuinely bereaved as he carries his friend’s picture, as though he’d had nothing to do with his death.

Dressed in funeral black, Jung-hoo slips into the hospital to get to Teacher’s ashes first, leaving a box in place of the one he takes. He sees Moon-shik leaving the hospital with the decoy ashes, telling his Teacher that he couldn’t leave his remains in those hands. Jung-hoo promises to scatter the ashes in the South Pacific that Teacher liked so much.

At the Someday offices, Moon-ho directs his staff on their next broadcast. Thanks to their double agent Jong-soo, they’ve gotten their hands on Moon-shik’s prepared question list for his live television speech. Jong-soo has fed back information to the enemy that Someday is preparing something big, to coincide with Moon-shik’s broadcast. They predict that Moon-shik’s side will be beefing up cyber security in anticipation.

Moon-ho instructs Young-shin to talk with Detective Yoon as planned, and assigns her to work with a freelancer while Bong-soo is out on a leave of absence.

So Young-shin heads out to connect with the contact, and wouldn’t you know—there’s Jung-hoo, waiting to meet her. He greets her as though it’s their first time speaking, and finally provides a name: “I’m Seo Jung-hoo. I’m the freelancer who will need your help today.”

She repeats his name a few times, trying it out. “Seo Jung-hoo. Seo Jung-hoo-sshi. Or just… Jung-hoo-ya?”

I love how readily they fall into banmal (we can thank Bong-soo for making it so easy), and he apologizes for taking so long to get to this point. She smiles and says, “We finally meet,” and he smiles back at her.

And then she adds that he deserves a few blows anyway, and kicks him several times. Ha, I think he got off easy, all things considered.

They pull up to the police station, and she asks if he’ll disguise himself in order to go inside. He replies that his method is to use whatever is at his disposal, depending on the situation, and then clips a miked barrette into her hair. He tells her to say something, and she barks into it loudly, “I miss Park Bong-soo!” Don’t we all.

Jung-hoo follows Young-shin into the station, keeping his distance to make it look like they’re separate parties while she checks in. Then as soon as she’s granted access, he acts like he’s with her, which gets him past the checkpoint.

He has to leave her while she meets with the detective, so Jung-hoo issues advice like a nervous mother hen. When he starts to explain how to react if danger were to befall her, Young-shin points out that she’s in a police station, surrounded by police officers. With that, she joins Detective Yoon, having agreed to exchange information: He’ll tell her about President Hwang’s death, if she tells him about the Healer.

Jung-hoo continues upstairs for his own mission, disguising himself in a police uniform, and can hear over Young-shin’s mic as Detective Yoon excuses himself to work on a network server change that they’re kicking off in fifteen minutes. Ajumma realizes what Detective Yoon is doing and barks out a string of curses, calling him crazy.

Apparently her last hack must have pushed him to extremes, because now he’s decided to shut out all access to the police network from the outside. Yes, this blocks her out, but she’s offended in principle too, since it makes it impossible for the police to access their own network from outside the physical station.

Jung-hoo reminds her that that’s not her problem, and they return to the task at hand. She directs him to find any computer terminal to use as their entry point to the system, and it’s important to get in before the server reset in fifteen minutes.

So Jung-hoo caaaaasually sits himself down at a desk, trying to look as unobtrusive as possible. But his attempt to log in turns up an error page, and Min-ja deduces that even if all the police computers have been cut off from outside access, Detective Yoon needs at least one access point, and it’s bound to be his own computer. Time’s ticking.

When Detective Yoon asks Young-shin for her intel on the Healer, she thinks fast and admits the truth about meeting him. Then she gasps dramatically, pointing out the door. That’s him! He’s here!

Excited, Detective Yoon follows as she runs down the hall, zooming right past Jung-hoo, directing the officers far, far away. On her way out she marks Yoon’s computer by flinging her hat onto it, then surreptitiously motions for Jung-hoo to find that desk.

Jung-hoo heads into the cyber office and sits down at Yoon’s station. A few keystrokes later, he’s granted ajumma access. He’s out before anybody even notices.

Young-shin leads the cops all the way outside, at which point she stops in confusion and admits that she thought it was him—you know, this guy she has a crush on. HAHA. I’m so embarrassed for her even knowing she’s lying, and the look on Detective Yoon’s face is priceless.

The detective dashes back inside, not even noticing as Jung-hoo walks past him on his way out. Jung-hoo sternly lists all the violations she’s just committed, like interfering with police duty. She sighs heavily (“I know, it’s what I get for meeting such a boyfriend”), before dissolving into giggles: “This is such fun!”

She runs back into the station while he gapes in disbelief, though I notice the word he gets hung up on is “boyfriend.”

Moon-shik receives confirmation that Jung-hoo did in fact arrive from Russia recently—at least, the customs logs check out. But Secretary Oh has photos of “Bong-soo” taken by their police mole, from before Jung-hoo’s supposed arrival in the country. This just convinces Moon-shik that Jung-hoo is the Healer, and that he’s got the skills to change customs records.

Secretary Oh then plays the recording of the recent phone call between Young-shin and Myung-hee. Of course you’re tapping your wife’s phone.

Moon-shik confirms that Jung-hoo grew up without parents, and Young-shin grew up surrounded by ex-convicts. “So they never learned to acclimate to society,” he says, deciding that it’s his “duty” to step in. Oh, like you’re doing them a favor all of a sudden, Uncle Moon-shik? This man sure has a gift for reframing the truth for his needs.

At the station, we finally get an ID on the police mole who’s been feeding information to the bad guys. Ajumma gets his name, Park Ki-jung, and sends it along to Jung-hoo, who can’t shake his nervousness at leaving Young-shin at the police station, not after Teacher died there. But Min-ja warns him to stick to the plan.

Resuming their chat, Young-shin describes her Healer encounters to Detective Yoon. Her story is mostly true, but in light of recent events he’s now eyeing her with skepticism. Ajumma asks her to stall a bit longer, and Young-shin goes on, somehow making the truth sound silly and inconsequential.

Detective Park gets an alarming text from an unknown source, attaching a photograph of his meeting with Secretary Oh. His home address is listed, upping the creepiness.

Jung-hoo arrives at that apartment and gains entry. There’s a family photo inside but no family—they’re in Canada. Jung-hoo links the computer for ajumma to search, and proceeds to look around for clues.

Jung-hoo finds the important documents hidden in the toilet tank, which contains bankbooks under a false name. There’s also a vial containing a drug. He snaps photos, which then get texted back to Detective Park, who howls in frustration as he speeds home.

Moon-ho receives the same photo texts, including the log of bank deposits. He calls Detective Yoon, who’s still sitting with Young-shin, and offers up a deal, dangling tantalizing information as incentive for the police to cooperate. He says he knows about the Healer (the Teacher version) and wants to catch the person who killed him, and forwards the damning texts to the detective. Basically, one of their own is taking money regularly from the enemy—he’s a mole.

Detective Yoon bolts out of the office, gathering his team to go after their mole, Detective Park. Moon-ho offers to hand over all his information, with the condition that they be allowed to cover the case and broadcast the arrest. Which is asking for a lot, since the police would be exposing that a police officer murdered someone while in custody.

Unable to get in touch with Detective Park, the cops head out for his home next. Already Jong-soo’s on hand to film the action, while Young-shin grabs the mic to begin reporting on the scene.

Detective Park arrives home and sees that his valuable documents have been taken. He calls Secretary Oh in a panic, who stops him to ask suspiciously, “Which phone are you calling from?” He disconnects.

Detective Park grabs a suitcase and starts packing. Seconds later, Jung-hoo comes at him from behind and easily subdues him, wryly noting the futility of fugitives who stop to pack instead of just running.

Outside, the detectives and our reporters screech up to the building and race inside. The reporters get left behind at the packed elevator, so Young-shin just reports from there on the fly, interviewing the detective who’s been left behind.

When the cops get to Park’s door, they find a trail of Post-It notes with arrows drawn on them, leading them to a set of keys. Inside, the evidence is laid out neatly on the kitchen table. Healer is so helpful! Either that or he doesn’t trust the cops’ intelligence, which, frankly, doesn’t seem an unwarranted fear.

Another arrow points to the router, and then in the other room, they find their colleague, bound and gagged and shamefaced.

The reporters film his arrest as he’s loaded into the cop car. Jung-hoo joins Young-shin in front of the building and asks, “Miss, do you have some time?” Young-shin all but rolls her eyes and asks ajumma via her hairpin mic not to teach him such corny dialogue.

Ha, and poor Jong-soo finishes filming and turns around to find that he’s been ditched again. I so want Jong-soo to be able to watch the Healer drama after everything’s over, so he can finally see just how much he’s been missing all along.

Flashback scenes take us back to 1980, focusing on Teacher in his role as the motorcyclist diversion while his friends broadcast out of the truck. Moon-ho narrates to the camera the story of friends who were targeted for daring to expose the truth ignored by the media, and how Teacher spent eleven years in prison for that crime.

The Someday broadcast connects dots, painting the picture of a Teacher who had known dangerous things about important people, and died in custody.

Moon-ho outlines the monthly deposits made to Detective Park’s accounts, and the recorded call from Park to Secretary Oh gets played, which is pretty damning with the mention of them “catching on” and needing to run.

Moon-ho makes the link between Secretary Oh and Moon-shik—and then connects both men to the Teacher kidnapping. They even show the CCTV footage placing Moon-shik at the scene of the kidnapping on that day. Damn, he’s done his homework. Kudos, Moon-ho.

Watching from home, Moon-shik fumes and heads up to see Myung-hee… who happens to be watching that very broadcast. It’s only now that she realizes her old friend is dead, and Moon-shik fumbles to explain that he didn’t tell her because he didn’t want to upset her. She won’t look him in the eye and asks him to leave her alone, and all he can do is step aside. She closes her door in his face.

She turns her attention back to Moon-ho’s broadcast as he says that there are too many people who suffer unjust deaths but don’t merit so much as a mention in the newspaper. “Even if we can’t tell all of their stories,” he says somberly, “we wanted to tell at least one of them.”

Once again, his staff is pulled into his thrall, as Moon-ho concludes, getting a little choked up, “We remember you. To let you know this, we made this broadcast today. Thank you for watching with us.” Once again he bows his head to the audience in sign-off.

Damn, Moon-ho is good. He has a way of speaking that makes people sit up in awe, and it puts a tear in my eye.

Young-shin and Jung-hoo watch together, cuddled close, with Teacher’s ashes sitting on the table before them. Young-shin asks whether Teacher was a good guy, and Jung-hoo shakes his head: “Nope. He was a perverted old man.” She smiles and notes, “But you still liked him.” Jung-hoo says yeah.

She comments that he’s got a lot of good people around him, listing off ajumma and Teacher: “And me too. Of them, I’m the best.”

Jung-hoo holds her tight and thinks back to Teacher, and what it was like being instructed by him, and exasperated by him, and abandoned by him. But even that doesn’t have the old sting anymore.

Moon-shik calls Moon-ho that night, and as usual, their tones are both artificially light while both of them are fuming underneath the surface. Moon-ho pointedly addresses his hyung formally as mayoral candidate, saying that “we” have only just begun, noting that Moon-shik doesn’t have an “us” to refer to.

On the contrary, Moon-shik says patronizingly that Moon-ho’s still young, and that he does have an “us.” He describes his side as being held together by a sense of collective survival, where even though they’ll fight, they’ll stick together. Moon-ho’s team, on the other hand, is held together by nothing substantial, calling Moon-ho’s entire mission a flimsy justification.

Moon-ho struggles to tamp down his anger when his brother asks if “those kids” have faith in him. Moon-ho warns him not to mess with the kids, no matter how low he sinks.

Moon-shik returns, “Isn’t it you who messed with them first? They grew up okay—why stir them all up? I hear you still have nightmares. Shouldn’t it be enough that you suffer like that, and not make the kids do it too?”

Moon-ho asks if he can take this phone call as a declaration of war. Moon-shik chuckles that Moon-ho was the one to issue one first, via the broadcast.

In the morning, Jung-hoo wakes up in bed (sadly alone), and reaches for his phone. But as he calls Young-shin, she picks up another call, giving him the busy signal.

It’s Myung-hee, who asks to meet and invites her to the house. Young-shin accepts happily, and rushes out of the house, where she’s greeted by a driver with a fancy car. Seated inside is Moon-shik, who makes it sound like he’s here on his wife’s errand. Uh-oh. No no no. Bad!

Young-shin tries to decline but is persuaded into the car, and he comments on her not driving herself. She admits to having a fear of it, and supposes that it must be linked to some kind of childhood trauma. Sometimes she dreams about being on a dark road at night with cars zooming past her, and that’s a tidbit that makes Moon-shik’s face cloud over.

Then he slaps the smile back on and has his chauffeur drive on.

COMMENTS

It was only a small glimpse, but I found one of the big intriguing moments of the episode to be the comment that Moon-shik doesn’t seem to view himself as culpable—and that he doesn’t even seem to remember sometimes. I don’t know if Moon-ho means that he just acts that way convincingly, which is entirely possible, or if there’s actually a deeper kind of psychological dissociation going on in Moon-shik’s mind, but I find it a fascinating prospect. It certainly fits in with what we’ve seen of his character thus far, where he so cleverly twists every situation to suit his needs at the moment.

We saw it several times in this episode alone, such as how he first sighs about “those children” being left to live wayward lives that he must now step in to intercept them from… and then later tells Moon-ho that the kids grew up totally fine and blissfully ignorant, and that Moon-ho would be the evil one for shaking up their peace for his own selfish ideas of justice or whatever. Both times I felt like he was totally talking crazy talk, but making it sound chillingly sane. In fact if we hadn’t seen him swing from one extreme to its opposite in such a short period of time, I might even think he believed himself when he was making all his justifications. Funny how he’s really the one with the flimsy justifications, but he manages to project that onto his brother and make it sound plausible.

So in that context I do cut Moon-ho some slack for his earlier inactions, because Moon-shik is a master mind-manipulator. My question is whether he manipulates himself while he’s at it—does he allow himself to fall into the illusion, or is he always in control? I’m not sure, but the question is intriguing. In any case, I believe Myung-hee is the key to understanding, because she’s been his reason for hurtling forward, however misguidedly. Now that she’s on her way to fracturing that bond, he’ll soon be adrift and then we’ll have to see what happens.

Speaking of adrift, I did love how quickly our main couple fell into step with each other, once they got past the whole deception-lies-denial part of the relationship. It’s gratifying to see how much Young-shin means to Jung-hoo not just as a romantic love interest, but as a symbol for so many other aspects of his identity. And you know what’s better than a hero with secret identities being tortured by his various facades? A heroine who gets a total kick out of the skulking, and proves to be a handy partner—she’s way more fun being an active participant than the object, or the damsel needing rescue.

I love that Jung-hoo’s puzzling over the question of who he is, when all along he hasn’t bothered to think of it. His core persona has meant just as little to him as the disposable disguises he adopts for each job, and that speaks to his emptiness in not having a reason for living. He has no idea of who he is, and no reason has existed to prod him into figuring it out, because what did it matter?

His primary motivator for wanting to find himself may be Young-shin, but I appreciate that it’s not just about romance here. I think of her as something of an anchor for his lost soul—not necessarily saving him single-handedly but providing a crucial point of reference, a guiding light that will lead him to himself. Because while I love them in love, I find it significant that they are both in need of figuring out for themselves who they are and how they fit into this world—it’s less of the you-complete-me mentality and more of them spurring each other to complete themselves, so they can be together as whole people.

I wanted to have a look on the ratings of my favourite dramas :
1. Nine- did not find episode wise all total max 4.4%
2. School - good 15%
3. Three musketeers - can't even mention
4. I hear your voice - wow!!!! 21.6%
5. Queen In Hyun's man- did not find it
6. Personal Taste - 11.2%
7. It's okay that's love- 9.9%
8. Kings 2 Hearts- 13.6%

Now I think I should not care about ratings

Note: Nine, Three Musketeers and QIHM are tvN dramas, and for cable channel 4% is a success. So Nine was a successful drama in terms of ratings. QIHM was also good ratings wise as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong.

Wow surprised King 2 Hearts did so bad ratings wise. I thought Koreans would like these kind of topics.

They started at 18.8% and steadily went down, recovering only in last three episodes. I also did not get why, but some people who dropped it said the setting was too unrealistic. K2H is my top 2 favorite, and Dramabeans was so on fire) reminds me of case with Healer, although I am not as invested as I was in K2H. Don't kill me please, but sometimes I don't like the editing/cameraworks, episode 15 was the worst in these terms. I honestly got disappointed, but then I got episode 16 which became my favorite episode since episode 12)

I wouldn't call K2H realistic from the get-go. I guess Korean viewers had certain expectations for it. Well at least we had fun!

Don't ever apologise for not liking a show! (:

Well Korean viewers have much stronger views about the N/S division than we international viewers do, of course. To us it's only entertainment; to them it hits close to home. So if they feel uncomfortable about the setting and the turns that are taken in the drama, they'd drop it like a hot potato.

Another example, Empress Ki. They were quite emotional about the subject matter too. Even lashed out at the production and cast member that spoke up in its defence as entertainment. not history. They'd feel an insult that we wouldn't understand.

Same with The Three Musketeers - it's also a cable drama on tvN. And I was so frustrated with ratings for that drama. It was seriously a good drama and rating-wise could not even get over 1-2%!!! Like seriously that drama was planned for 3 seasons and had really good plot, but due to ratings the network decided to no longer go ahead with the planned 3 seasons so we only have just the1 season. I swear I was so angry at Korean audiences LOL

omg don't even get me started with the three musketeers!!
I'm so frustrated at the ratings. i was so looking forward to the season 2 and 3.... sigh---

i just hope Healer will do well while "selling"(?) the episodes it to other countries, like with you who came from the stars.
thats why we all need to participate in the int'l fan project so that they can know that there are millions of people outside korea enjoying and appreciating each and every second of the show.

the ratings bum me out tbh
but what is more important is that i enjoy each episode, which i do.
It is hard when something you love, doesnt get the recognition it deserves. At least international kdrama fans love it. Hopefully the staff and cast know this.

First time ever commenting in this space. Another lurker brought out by Healer. I have enjoyed the comments from everyone here because it's helped me sort thru all the different emotions this show brings and all the layers and thoughts going thru my head after every episode. To add my own two cents, just wanted to add that my hubbie is watching this series with the same intensity as I am. He usually watches very different more intellectual shows but this story has him fully engaged, and keeps him guessing to what happens next? We both agree this is intelligent well thought out writing. As an example, Teacher's back story completely surprised us. Here we both thought "another guy who abandons Healer", and it turns out he loved Healer like a son, but also there was all these complicated emotions..."Every time I see you a rock twists in my stomach"...In the end he was even willing to sacrifice his own life for him. So, the episodes just keep us guessing...we think we know Moon Shik, he's such a bad person, but then suddenly we get these glimpses of his humanity, and complicated view of the world. A young person entrapped , and manipulated by The Elder....And no one knows what really happened in 1992 when that accident happened....The corruption in the media, and politics is so well exemplified with these characters! What a joy, joy, joy to watch.....

Healer...why do you make me feel the need to stalk almost every site/blogs about you? I mean I seriously not only read here at DB, but I stalk Soompi and Mydramalist as well (despite not having an account for those). The reason why I love DB is because there's no need to make an account and it's just easier to join in the discussions here. Plus it's spoiler free too :) oh dramabeans... I shall forever be a Beanie :D

On other news, I use MDL to look at dramas there and to read comments too. I noticed that every time someone mentions about Healer on Pinocchio, Pinocchio's fans always say how they're annoyed at us Healer fans. There's like an argument about it here http://mydramalist.com/11074-pinocchio

But I've also seen the same thing with Pinocchio fans commenting on Healer's thread before and none of us ever said anything negative about them. Some fans can be very -.- ...sigh. Although, from reading it I feel that Healer fans are always so positive and nice with their comments. And it's great to see how supportive they are of Healer and will happily defend this drama if anyone shot us down or put a negative comment without even trying the drama out first. I think the commenter there (Teru) is one of us beanies here as well...since her comments are noticeably long :) anyway, I am just proud to be Healer fan. This fandom is sure one of the best ♥

Yay go us fans are the best! Healer fighting!

On AsianWiki, Healer fans are comparing and are critical of Pinocchio but I think that just comes from loving Healer too much.

Haha @helkwo I saw that too on Asianwiki! And I posted MDL Pinocchio page because Teru was one of us too. I hope she doesn't I'm a freak but I've been stalking there to read her comments amongst others too...I also saw your comments there too :P So I felt like a proud beanie hehe.

Well I guess we have every reason to be critical of Pinocchio's fans if they just feel the need to comment something negative about Healer just out of spite and saying how they will never watch because us fans "ruined" it for them. They all must be loyal PSH/LJS fans hah.. Well come on...if giving a measly reason like that to why they don't like this ddram then I have no words. Their arguments are weak and would not stand a chance of being taken seriously by others. Rather than saying "this drama is boring", it's better to be critical and tell people why. Anyhow, yep agree being critical to defend Healer/JCW just shows our love for Healer :D

Yup Healer fighting! I just went over to Asianwiki to have a look again and checked Pinocchio asianwiki too. With Pinocchio's page, there are only comments of Pinocchio itself mostly. While over at Healer's page ...there's a number of comments from Pinocchio's fans bashing the drama. So...I think that is rather unfair. *shakes head* Some fans can be crazy I guess, I personally hate that people are comparing the two dramas since they're very different in my opinion :)

0

Couldn't agree with you more. Healer is so good that we don't need to stoop low to compare and criticise another drama.

0

+1000 yessss so agree! :)

That's the great thing about Healer fandom, we don't stoop low to compare and criticise other dramas. We're thoughtful, open-minded and mature analytical people that we're just a positive bunch of Healers off to heal the world from negativity! ;)

0

Off on a mission* to heal the world from negativity... :)

0

@Bongsooki, helkwo, Growingbeautifully

Hear hear! I agree (x100)....and lol it's good to know that I've been stalked on MDL as well - us beanies are everywhere :) I was frustrated because obviously because I have come across with many of their negativity as well. And yes, I saw those comments over at Asianwiki with Pinocchio fans bashing Healer to the point where there's a lot of comments from Healer fans just begging them not to go on Healer page (just because their drama finished) to bash Healer. I mean if you want to promote your drama, that is fine, a recommendation type comment is fine with other people but just don't be negative about it. I thought it was better to deal with these situations being mature and positive about it to set an example for ALL Pinocchio fans out there to follow. It was nice to just sometimes sprout wise words and lessons about life but relating it to dramas to let them know that their behaviour is not welcomed. I also love DB Healer community too because we all very supportive of each other and we're very mature in our response. @Bongsookie, if you're curious, Annabelle who replied to my comments is also a Beanie as well (and my RL friend/work colleague). She commented here before, but not my much since she is more of a lurker...however, all our comments get read by her too. She's just fanatic of Healer and went from being a fan of Pinocchio to Healer. So when she and I see negative comments like that, we just face-palm and feel like giving those fans a 'lecture' in a very nice reasonable way possible :)

Yes I agree with dealing things positively...because hey, isn't fitting being welcoming/positive a very fitting image for us Healer fans? I mean the drama is also about Healing too, so by setting a good example to follow, we not only have a great fan base but a good reputation to back up too. And like you, I am also a proud Beanie :D

Fighting!

Thanks @Growingbeautifully :) yep I feel like protective mother when it comes to this show. JCW, PMY, and the rest of Healer staff deserve a lot of recognition for being us such an incredible show. I don't want their work to be trashed by anti-fans since that is just disrespectful to all the hard work they have put in. Even as little as voicing out, you just never know, of they do stumble upon our comments, they would know that their work is appreciated and we are all so thankful for them for bringing us a great love story/entertainment. I also love DB Healer community too :D

0

*Thumbs up* Glad to read ya, Annabelle!

0

@ Bongsookie and helkwo

I've been reading your comments with interest. I'm glad to say that I've found DB Healer fans terrifically awesome. I feel that the community here is rightly invested in enjoying the show together: that is the whole purpose of being here after all, LOL! We are focused on the right way to have a fun ride, while enabling as many others as possible to enjoy it with us.

Except for our wonderful wild fangirling (where squees are meant to go overboard), we have shown restraint and respect, well-thought through comments and acceptance of differences of opinion. There is so much good to get emotional over, that I feel we can allow dissenters/detractors their say without getting emotionally involved there as well. There is no need and it is also exhausting.

I love this community for its reasoned, mature way of responding to anti-healer-love, and I trust that despite negative comments, we will continue to be positive and welcoming and WISE. If there is any emotions to be invested, let it be invested in what is good and uplifting. The good stuff is worth our time and energy, the negative will just sap it away. I vote that we'll always go for the good and be wise.

In a real world we have real divisions, many of which are not by our choice and which are beyond our control. Here however, we can and do make the choice in our little virtual community, to build more bridges, we have the power here to bring on greater unity and love, .... and we do. That is why we are AWESOME.

Fighting! Dear Friends!!! :D

Dear javabeans,

THANK YOU FOR THE RECAP!

-----------------------------------

Dear Healer Writer-nim,

Episode 15 was too much to contain. I have yet to watch Episode 16, but looking at the 7-minute of heaven in this episode, I am fully expecting some storm coming, soon. Here goes my shout: I would accept any kind of storm, as long as the storm does not let both of our OTP go at the end.

Please. Don't. Kill. Them.

This drama has become my top favourite, beating Secret Garden and You Who Came From Another Star, so far. Disappointment is thus NOT permitted.

And one small wish? More fan service please. Add that 7-minute moments with a 53-minute into the final episode, YES?

umm, why not look for a big-sized, good-resolution image that you like, take it to a photo/print shop and ask them to print it nicely for you? that is, unless you can buy from korea, and/or prefer to buy officially released images? i think they're not going to be readily available in europe, sadly :(

at least most of his dramas are avl on amazon :D

I guess there's no need to re-comment about how epic-ly cute this episode was, and it was so welcome after all those wrenching and heartbreaking moments we had to go through in the last couple of episodes. Back to the bubbly - and the chemistry is even more unbelievable than before. I was afraid that maybe now things were going to get tedious but that's not even the case! YEAH!
And yes, I miss Bong Sookie too but I am so relieved that she's become Jung Hoo's partner-in-crime - staying away from the "needing saving cuz my boyfriend's kinda superman" scenario :) He makes her an active participant, he knows that's the best way to protect her anyway and also, like he said they're similar : they don't run away when facing danger, so he's like training her in a way but it looks like our gangsta heroine got it covered already! (I mean come on, she grew up with outlaws Jung Hoo, you think YOU can teach her how to break the rules?) HA.
He's protective but not overwhelmingly, not making her a fragile and passive object and that's how even more perfect their relationship could be in my eyes. They went where I wanted them to go - and that's not always the case in TV shows so I thank the writer soo much for that.
Well, anyway he fell for her crazy bravery so that would not make sense for him to want to smolder that. haha
Please, let the Bonnie and Clyde couple get their happy ending writer-nim, chaebal!!

@ Hello

Yes + 100 to your view on Jung Hoo's attitude towards Young Shin. They are written to be truer to life than other OTPs have been (in my viewing experience). Let them keep growing (with ups and downs, but more ups please!) and be happy, indeed! :)

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, so many people took the words out of my mouth when expressing how absolutely perfect (in romance terms) this episode was. I died watching it. JCW is just so great with that stare of his. I really would believe that they were dating if I wasn't watching a drama. Lol. I have never seen an OTP have such amazing chemistry and they seriously acted like a couple. So many times in Kdramas, hugs and kisses are awkward but they are never awkward! Gosh...so freaking perfect. I mean...I think the only other couple I loved (not with the level of intensity Healer OTP gives) was Kwon Sang Woo and Choi Ji Woo in Stairways to Heaven. They were believable to me and they weren't awkward with each other.

@ Alienkay

True, the romance totally works. It is so respectful of the way a romance, is carried through in life.

And not only the romance, even the redemption arc (or bad vs good story) is well told, well integrated with the romance (or maybe it is vice versa), with enough suspense and enough payoffs to be satisfying each episode.

It is a privilege to be viewing this show, knowing how we viewers are honored by the Production Team. Accolades and Kudos to them always!

I have to tell you all how absolutely gob-smacked I've been by this drama. Yes, walking around in a daze for over two weeks now, listening to the OST over and over, have JWC and PMY together on every electronic device I own, trolling DB endlessly and loving all of you so much that my heart actually hurts for what we are going through together....but,
In my office today, there's a bunch of sh*t going down - and nothing can do about it. I was so frustrated half an hour ago - and so mad at one unreasonable person that I had to go for a drive to relieve my stress. What did I do in my car? But of course listen to My Eternal Love, as usual. I burst into tears and had to pull over to the side of the road to weep. I cried it all out..my angst over work and some dreams that are crumbling right now, worry over the end of episode 16, and most of all -how absolutely UNDONE and IN LOVE with Healer that I am...how much I believe in JH and YS's profound love, how much I deeply care about Moon Ho and MHee, how much I love the writer and director and editor and the entire crew pulling this amazing drama together in cold weather and brutally long working hours, how much I truly love my fellow HealerBeanies. It all fell out of me in a gush of emotion I haven't experienced in years. I'm a big girl and nothing like this has ever happened to me. I am FEELING every nanosecond of my life, thanks to Healer. Just....wow.
So I want to thank all of you for being there for me - and for all of us going through this incredible experience. We are all on this lifeboat called "Healer' together - all helping each other survive, all feeling the feels together. I love all of you. That's all. Thank you so much.

I'm telling you, as soon as Healer starts airing every week, some warlock comes and uses his immense powers of mind control to keep the Koreans from watching Healer so that it does not become the next highest rated drama. Just want to reiterate part of a post I made this morning about the ratings. Don't worry too much because the cast and crew of Healer know well that this is going on - and they probably expected it...
"... There’s not much anyone can do to push Healer ratings above Shine and Go Crazy because that show will grab attention across the age groups. There’s action, humor, romance, fantasy and history all rolled into one – so it’s no wonder that Seoul and the Nation are tuning in to watch the current early episodes. Episode 1 does grab you right away.
Trust me – I’m madly in love with Healer. SAGC is a totally different show but one we might want to catch up with when our Healer finishes"….waahhhhh :((

Healer is the very first drama i rooted for after Master's Sun, it's like a full-package-present on end-and-new-year. Even though Healer's rating is not very well at least he's not alone, we're with him on this journey. Argh, i wish i could wrap Ji Chang Wook for mine hehehe

Not much time left, i'm not sure how i would bid goodbye to this show then.

Man, Healer hits me in all the right spots. It hurts so good. All of it. When I first started, I thought this was a bit like City Hunter. But in a way, the characters are all so much more relatable and human and broken and so full of heart. I feel more emotionally invested in Jung Hoo than I was in...um...the city-hunter-lee-min-ho dude (sorry I forgot). Jung Hoo makes me want to cry all the time, and I'm right there with him as he's trying to find himself, through all his pain, through his confusion and self-discoveries. I think what really hits it with this romance (which I didn't think I'd like: yeah I started it just for JCW) is what you said: that line about the partner being the catalyst in discovering yourself rather than "you make me whole" thing. LOVE IT! It's been so long since I've actually felt eager to watch through all the episodes. Recently (as in, ever since City hunter) all I do is start a drama then get impatient and read through the rest of your recaps. tbh, I've read your recaps already but even then I feel so compelled to watch everything unfold. I ADORE the older gen flashbakcs we get and god, Jung Hoo's made me cry so many times already. I just wish he got to spend more time with Teacher and not be left with so much regret at everything they left unsaid between them.

Required fields are marked *

@Julienne, that was well said. I agree with things you mentioned there and it was the same for me with CH. I LOVED City Hunter and the revenge plot was very good however I was never invested emotionally into the romance relationship between Lee Sang Yoon (? Lee Min Ho guy) and Kim Nana. I did understand LSY's pain and his journey but somehow it never felt complete to me. Jung Hoo's journey here was much more harder and made him a character that I completely root for. You feel his pain and you also get to see his vulnerable side. I don't think we saw much of LeeMinHo-guy's vulnerable side while JH we saw all different cute sides to him. Well I just find JH's character more easier to root for since he has flaws and makes mistakes like all of us do.

Those were the words that were in my mind soon after I saw the episode. I was thinking of him as puppy. Like a real pup who is attached to a master or friend. It follows that person around all the time. Eyes always on the person and always alert and ready to jump to attention. Hope I am not repeating something previously mentioned. Not much color in this drama. This seems intentional. Yes she had the bright red dress briefly and there is an occasional subdued blue or green but mostly black, white, cream and gray. The environments follow this pattern also except for the huge beach picture. I think it is a symbolic technique. Will color creep in as things are resolved? Just wondering. What does anyone else think?

Well, I think one reason is that the whole drama takes place in winter. Am not sure about the symbolic implications.

This drama just keeps getting better!
Healer's response to his teacher's death is right in line with his character. It is believable. And I love how they don't just have the death, cry and that is it (like so many shows), but they convey the feeling of a longer mourning. And the chemistry between the Healer and YS is great, and again seems totally in character. It just is believable that love-starved Healer would not be able to leave YS alone.
And the plot just keeps trucking along......

Still really ticked his teacher is dead, even if it is great motivation for the plot. The cute scenes were adorable! I loved how he just clung to her. (Sooooo jealous!!!) My favorite is when she was missing Bong Soo; that just cracked me up.

What seems really scary to me is that the further his wife pushes him away (TOTALLY justified), the more Moon Shik seems to be acknowledging his darker side. I still don't think he killed his friends, however to be a 'better' fit for the woman he loved and to possibly save them all from the 'Elder' he started going over to the dark side. (Darth Vader's ancestor?) He kept on justifying things until now. Recently I think he is finally starting to embrace it. I believe his interaction with his wife will decide things one way or the other, which I find very interesting.

Thanks Javabeans for a wonderful recap. I am sorry to say I no longer have enough time to read all the comments (911!!), but being 24hrs behind kinda sucks in joining in. I'm glad everyone is having fun though. It's fun to go and read when I have a few minutes.

Haha @polaris for the first time I'm planning on doing the same thing as you too!

I haven't seen episode 16 yet either but after seeing comments from people saying how the cliffhanger at 16 is so intense and I'm too scared to watch 16. Don't want to go through the same suffering as I did from episode 12 lol. I'm going just happy sit at happy land and rewatch 15 all over again :) lalalala *tries to convince self that it's okay to wait*

I'm gonna be on this thread to comment until next week so will stray far away from my Twitter, IG, Tumblr, & episode 16 recap thread LOL. Will also comment at MDL list too since all spoilers are hidden there as well. DB and MDL are my only safe zones - I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one holding off 16 until at least Monday :)

Lalalalala yes it was totally beacsue the Olympics that episode 16 never aired. KBS2 will not be broadcasting episode 16 until next week back to back with episode 17 (double good news yayyy!) :D

Ep 16 wasn't that bad. It had some good stuff to alleviate too and some funny. So if you feel yourself weakening... don't feel to bad about it ... you can watch before Tuesday and still survive. Muahaha!

Those two puppies are adorably cute together. Kudos to the production team for letting us (the viewers) know that they spent the night together, but doing so in a tasteful way, that this is a truly modern couple with no lack of skinship.

I'm really wild about them, the chemistry between PMY and JCW is intense, I am also shipping them in real life. Though I doubt PMY will make the same mistake twice of publicly dating her co-star.

How deluded Moon Shik is. At first I'd hoped it was all a misunderstanding but now I am fully convinced he is quite evil. I'm nervous about what he is planning for our young couple.

Writer-nim please let Young Shin meet her mother in the next episode, jebal. Can't wait to see mother and daughter's reunion, fingers crossed. Healer is shaping up to be one of my best, top three dramas. It's highly addictive and unforgettable, a thing I can only say about Heartless city, King 2 heart and Faith.

Yeesss wahoo! I love love love JCW's deep velvety voice. I think his voice would really go well with a ballad. Just like one he sang for Empress Ki and Five Fingers OST. I could listen to this two songs all day over and over...his singing reminds me of Lee Seunggi's voice a bit but unique on his own too. Ahh so hard to describe his voice but that I love it so much.♥

Oh... you SHOULD watch EQ, he's so daebak there! I still argue that it should have been entitled Emperor Cuteness instead.. LOL!

And yes, the his voice and the way he interpret the song... even if you're just listening you can feel the emotion he wants to convey.

Aigoo... so much, much, much to love to his Royal Hotness!

Can't wait for his Healer OST, just read the detailed info from jichangwookkitchen.com and its dedicated to YS... oohhh, the feels already!

0

@polaris oh I so plan to watch this. After Healer ends, I have like 2 weeks before my new semester of uni starts and I don't know how I'm going to get through the withdrawal symptoms my favourite drama ending! I guess Empress Ki is very high on my to-watch list next! :D

0

And to think that I had Empress Ki on my to-watch list since it first aired but never got round to watching it. Ahhh how could I not know of JCW until now??? Should've watched EK much sooner had I known how awesome JCW is haha

Now all I want to do these days is to fully support him and his works. I'm planning on being a fan of his for a verrrry long time. My #1 bias now ♥

I don't know if its valid but they said that its a sad song, even the production team got teary-eyed after the recording...

Uuuggh... that probably mean nasty angst are waiting for us for the remaining eps, right?

Just like youngshin said... "I miss Bong-soo-yah! Bong-soo-yah!"

0

Required fields are marked *

It's a sad and moving song so maybe there's some angst in store for us. I mean with this storyline it is perfectly reasonable since our Youngshin will be facing the truth. She may not know who to trust either because like what JB said, MS is very manipulative. He's probably good at making himself appear like the good guy...lol.

It seems we're the only one left in here... hihihi!

It's just that I have a bad feeling about THAT ep-that-must-not-be-watch-till-tuesday... actually I saw the first 15 min raw last night and I can't bear to continue watching. I'm such a loser for sad-ending-novel and there's this churning in my stomach that I don't think I can take for a week if I saw the whole ep, that's why the denial...

Aww @polaris, I won't be calling you coward ever...because I am exactly like you! I have a bad feeling to be honest right after experiencing so many good moments in episode 15. Since we all know in kdrama-land when your leads have the upperhand so early on in the series and especially if you get an episode with so many goodies and happiness all-in-one, then next episode's bound to slap you in the face with a shock....and before you know it you're either crying or in too much shock. This happened to me way many times with dramas like Nine, Three Musketeers, Queen In-Hyun's Man, etc.

Yep let's all stay in denial land for now ;)

@nutella, yay! glad we're not the only ones left out :D

I've just re-watched ep 15 AGAIN *see I'm sticking to my schedule*

I've was able to watched it now up to the credits and I just saw an extended cut of their sofa-cuddle-while-cleaning-the-wound...

There JH is pulling YS hair upward as if he's mesmerized on YS's hair with the morning sunlight... I really find it sexy and endearing every time he touches/caress YS's hair . I love a guy who appreciates our crowning glory... the way he put the hi-tech hairpin on YS is so sweeeeet!

ME WANT THAT HAIRPIN TOO... AND BONG-SOO-YAH!

Yes, but it's a group song, not a solo... probably the reason why it's not released as a single.

Have you tried his musical performance on the days? It's entitled, "Eventhough I love You"... he performed it live with an orchestra on a stage play... its totally DAEBAK!

His voice is raw and eventhough I don't understand Korean, I can feel shivers every time I hear it. It's my #2 on my playlist, being EK OST the #1...

I just downloaded KWave #48 to my phone... so much good stuff for our dear puppy... plus lots of gorgeous pics of him. I got the link from the kitchen, have you seen it?

As the mag said, maybe the reason he's not that popular is because of his shy and meek real life character. I watched him since Dong Hae, but his role on EK got me hooked on him, and then there's Healer which totally ruined my perfectly normal(ish) Kdrama life.

I'm done with Bachelor's Vegetable Garden, currently on Warrior Baek Dong Soo, as my filler for Healer. I used to watched dramas randomly, but JCW set the bar waaaay HIGH for other lead actor to surpass.

*sigh* still clutching my heart for the angst on the horizon

Oh no I haven't seen the link from JCWkitchen, I hope you don't mind sharing it? :D

His shyness and meek real life character is what makes me love him all the more because he's very relatable to me. I'm also very shy in front of strangers too. He's definitely set the bar really high for me too. My only regret is that I only discovered him now in Healer. Wished I had known about him earlier...

Then you can download it to your phone, just search *KWave* at the play store... download the app then you can find the different issues, JCW is the newest #48... it's a free app, plus you can keep it, read it offline... COOL!
