Book giveaway: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

We’re back with another book giveaway!

Perhaps you’ll recall that we did a giveaway last year for the young adult novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, which we were happy to do because the book was sweet, funny, and thoughtfully written, from the perspective of a Korean-American teenager falling in love and navigating her first romance. Jenny is herself quite the drama fan, and I thought To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before even read like a drama plot transferred to novel form (I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t picturing certain K-drama actors in the roles).

The fabulous Ms. Han has written the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, which released just today — and since the last giveaway went so well, she’s giving us 5 copies to give away to Dramabeans readers.

Girlfriday and I have read the book, and it’s difficult to talk about the plot without giving away spoilers for the first one (which we don’t want to spoil since you should really just go read it!) — but suffice to say that heroine and middle sister Lara Jean still has her sisterly bonding moments, her fair share of embarrassing teenage-girl foibles, and a love triangle to twist you up, but in a good way (since both boys are such great characters).

TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:

Leave a comment below, sharing your favorite K-drama set in high school. (Jenny names Answer Me 1997 as hers. I did love that one, but if I had to pick something else as my most addictive, I might have to go with Boys Before Flowers. I know! But it was cracktastic evil magic, okay? Girlfriday says both recent seasons of School, though she reserves the right to rescind School 2015 if Eun-bi picks the wrong boy. You know which one we mean!)

Be sure to leave a valid email address, since that’s how we’ll get in touch with winners.

This giveaway is unfortunately limited to U.S. entrants; apologies to all of you outside of the States.

Deadline: Thursday, May 28, at midnight PST. We’ll announce winners shortly thereafter.

If you’d like to buy the book instead, it’s now available from Simon and Schuster, Amazon, and other retailers.

It was a toss up between BOF or White Christmas. But, if I had to chose one, it'd be White Christmas. While I loved and cringed at the ridiculous antics that was BOF, the psychological insight in White Christmas gives it a win. AND, it introduced me to Sung Joon so who can argue with that??

I'd have to say Reply 1997 and School 2015.

Answer Me 1997 is not only my favorite high school drama, it's my hands down all time favorite drama ever! Also I really loved To All the Boys I've Loved Before, could totally see a kdrama influence on Han's writing style.

I would say White Christmas. No words can describe my love for that drama. Although it's a short drama but it was enjoyable. Different from other high school dramas which I like.

My favorite drama set in high school would definitely have to be Reply 1997. If Reply 1994 was set in high school I would have chosen that one as well. lol

It was the first time I felt so much for them. It made me love Eunji. It made be hurt for Hoya's character. He doesn't even talk much and yet every single action and gaze kills me.

Second would probably be Dream High cos the milk couple was so cute and I love that it's like a better version of high school musical =P

Answer Me 1997! I was debating between Goong and 1997, but ultimately the special place in my heart belongs to 1997.

Goong. The acting was spot on. The plot was a fairly tale. The costumes were amazing. It was a believable story line. Love that drama so much. Ginny

The moment my heart dropped when it said US entrants only. Canada is deprived of anything Korean, I tell you. :(

Is it a sequel then? I still haven't finished To All the Boys I Loved Before. I need to pick it up again.

Aw, man don't make me choose. I really liked School 2014 and Angry Mom! Boys Over Flowers has a special place in my heart but its not my fave.

Shut Up Flower Boy Band was also very good! Aaaah! Okay I'm going to stop now before I end up listing every drama I watched, lol.

Let's see...I am torn between Goong and Boys Before Flowers. Each had its bumps of bad acting and writing, but both were equally addictive. I mean Yoon Eun Hye and Lee Min Ho became two actors I continue to follow.

However, my choice comes down to Boys Before Flowers. Simply on the basis that Boys capitalized on the emotional highs and lows of teenage-hood. I loved the sheer ridiculous depictions of economic stratas. Ramen versus luxury brand cars. I think the show perfectly captured the expectations most teenagers have of adulthood, that life will work out and you will find a profession that you will move into seamlessly. Jandi and Ji-ho as doctors? Junpyo as a charismatic and successful CEO? Yes, only in dramaland. But I love this drama regardless of these leaps of logic because at the end of the day I felt for each of these characters.

I'd have to say Sungkyungwang Scandal, though does it count as high school? Probably more like college. Well then... Goong or Dream High then. ^^

Boys Over Flowers. The setup reminded me too much of my days in boarding school. Not sure if that's a good thing, since I really hated it... ah, the memories. But BOF was a more fantastical, prettier setup that has stayed with me.

Highschool Dramas? Ahhh, this is tough... Angry Mom, Reply 1997, and To the Beautiful You would have to be the top three contenders.
To the Beautiful You was set in an all boys school but still the students went through common events that happen through school. A bit of love, a bit competition...
Reply 1997 was beautifully cast, and I fell in love with every single one of them. All those bits of romance and comedy were well played. I also loved the 90's feel of it
Angry Mom had a different feel to it, but I like how it attacked the rougher side of highschool bringing out the topics of bullying, corruption and lack of care from both students and teachers. Also Bok dongieee <3

If I had to pick one, I guess Angry Mom would be the winner.

PS. I am not an American but I go to college in America and pretty much live there for 75% of the entire year so does it count?

Sungkyunkwan scandal, but that's not really high school. Hello my teacher would be my favorite, but right now school 2015 is number one. Second would be goong because spark my interest in korean drama. And then boys before flowers set the deal. There's just too many great high school drama to pick from, like god of study, shut up flower boy band and dream high. I can't really pick!!! ???

I loved the first book! It was such an easy read, and pretty crack-tastic in its own way.

My favorite drama set in high school would probably be Dream High, because it introduced much of the world to Kim Soohyun, and really got me into K-pop. It was also the first series to stump me on the OTP, because I totally thought it was one guy, and it turned out to be the other -- usually the OTP is SO. OBVIOUS. Plus, how cute are the side characters??

Interestingly enough, I found Jenny Han's first book in this series also kind of stumped me in terms of who the heroine would fall for. It felt like so many twists! Maybe it's my kind of story...

I really liked Ma Boy. It was short-lived but super sweet and it turned the high school cross-dressing trope on its head by having the guy wear a skirt. I always wished there had been a little more to the story!

Thinking about it, my top few dramas of all time are actually all set in high school. All time favourite is Shut Up Flower Boy Band, hands down, followed by Dream High and Reply 1997. I just love shows that have a core group of besties that support one another through the trials and tribulations of adolescence. :')

boys over flowers was my first kdrama ever so it'll always have a special place in my heart, but my top high school drama ever is 100%, without a doubt, shut up flower boy band. so heartwrenchingly earnest and emotionally charged, and it made me fall in love with sung joon!

dream high's a close second. i guess musically-themed dramas tend to do it for me :)

Dream High would have to be my favorite high school drama. The fact that IU and Kim Soo-hyun are acting together again in The Producers as completely different characters is majorly throwing me for a loop, but that doesn't mean I'm not loving it.

"Shut Up Flower Boy Band" hands down is my favorite high school drama. It still leaves such sweet memories, even though it has been two years since I've watched it. I felt like the tone was kind of realistic. There was that feeling of gritty angst where you want to set the world on fire, but still hope that there is more to life than this. The friendship between the boys was so sweet and shows how high school friends make you feel like they are your true family since they get you and only you. The soundtrack is full of great commercial rock songs that I would have listened to as a high schooler. I still jam to those songs when they come on in my car (to the embarrassment of my youngest sister). Plus, the band was named "Eye Candy". How is that not a sign for a good drama?

My favorite kdrama set in high school would probably have to be a draw between "The Heirs" and "Shut Up Flower Boy Band". I know these aren't the best kdramas set in high school out there but they're the most recent ones I've watched so far. And from the looks of the comment section it seems I've got to check out "School 2013" and "School 2015" as well as "Angry Mom" (although I've read all the dramabeans recaps on Angry Mom already hehe)

Thanks so much for doing another giveaway!!!!

Favorite high school K-drama is Shut Up Flower Boy Band!!! Was really deceived by the title and character descriptions until I watched the show and fell in love with the character depth and maturity. The series also allowed the characters to grow in a realistic way that impressed me (rather than the storybook weddings or everyone staying together forever) even though it hurt. Lee Min Ki and Sung Joon are <3!!

I had to pick between four. From Goong-BOF-Playful Kiss- and Orange Marmalade. Drum Roll Please....It's Goong! Just because it too introduced me to KDrama and I've watched it so many times I can quote the subs almost. I'm a sucker for fairytales.

I swear I put my Hot Booties on and turn up the electric comforter on cold days just so I can watch the scene where our crown princess snuggles deep under the covers nursing a cold. And true I make my Pig-Rabbit watch too.
