Book giveaway: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

We’re back with another book giveaway!

Perhaps you’ll recall that we did a giveaway last year for the young adult novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, which we were happy to do because the book was sweet, funny, and thoughtfully written, from the perspective of a Korean-American teenager falling in love and navigating her first romance. Jenny is herself quite the drama fan, and I thought To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before even read like a drama plot transferred to novel form (I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t picturing certain K-drama actors in the roles).

The fabulous Ms. Han has written the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, which released just today — and since the last giveaway went so well, she’s giving us 5 copies to give away to Dramabeans readers.

Girlfriday and I have read the book, and it’s difficult to talk about the plot without giving away spoilers for the first one (which we don’t want to spoil since you should really just go read it!) — but suffice to say that heroine and middle sister Lara Jean still has her sisterly bonding moments, her fair share of embarrassing teenage-girl foibles, and a love triangle to twist you up, but in a good way (since both boys are such great characters).

TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:

Leave a comment below, sharing your favorite K-drama set in high school. (Jenny names Answer Me 1997 as hers. I did love that one, but if I had to pick something else as my most addictive, I might have to go with Boys Before Flowers. I know! But it was cracktastic evil magic, okay? Girlfriday says both recent seasons of School, though she reserves the right to rescind School 2015 if Eun-bi picks the wrong boy. You know which one we mean!)

Be sure to leave a valid email address, since that’s how we’ll get in touch with winners.

This giveaway is unfortunately limited to U.S. entrants; apologies to all of you outside of the States.

Deadline: Thursday, May 28, at midnight PST. We’ll announce winners shortly thereafter.

If you’d like to buy the book instead, it’s now available from Simon and Schuster, Amazon, and other retailers.

So hard to choose just one. But if I *have* to choose, I'd go with Answer Me 1997.

Although i am outside states i want to participate.

I am not Korean but i enjoyed answer me 1997. This gave me a sense of nostalgia. Although different cultures i was still able to relate to the story through my own personal experiences and bring back warm fuzzies.

I also enjoyed shut up flower boy band. Who doesn't love a good bromance?

Yippee!!! My fave drama set in high school has got to be Dream High. I can't forget the warm fuzzy feelings it gave me when the misfits banded together (pun intended :P). Also, I wanted to be part if their world because my high school days were definitely not like that!

Mine would definitely be The Heirs, though I can't say that I liked the main pairing or characters as much as in Dream High.

So as a person who is actually going through high school right now, my favorite drama that has been set in high school so far would probably be Reply 1997. The characters feel so realistic and very relatable during their high school years. Angry mom was great for me, it was the first drama that made me cry, but I cannot really relate to that specific type of situation due to me not getting severely bullied. Boys over flowers was my gateway to kdramas, but when I rewatched it, the addictive atmosphere was not t same as the first time.
I love all of the Jenny Han's books. Been reading since the "The Summer I Turned Pretty." ?

I absolutely loved To All The Boys I've Loved Before and impatiently waited for P.S. I Still Love You, thanks for the giveaway! My favorite drama set in high school definitely has to be Dream High! But if that doesn't really REALLY count, it would be Boys Over Flowers, my first KDrama <3

I like both Reply me 1997 and Dream High.....but if I have to choose, I will pick Reply me 1997 as my favorite. Dream High while easy to watch, the story is cliche and the cast's acting (except for Kim Soo Hyun) is really not that good. Yes, I totally watch it only because of KSH! Reply me 1997, while still a coming of age story, had an unique structure with great characterization and sincere acting. It makes the drama comes alive and feels real to the audience as the viewer will no doubt feel the connection to the characters and their lives.

Best high school drama.... oh boy this is a hard one. I guess my introduction to kdrama was actually Goong also known as Princess Hours so I will choose that as my favorite but honestly it is way too hard to list only one.

Funny how I consider myself a YA novel reader, but that did not translate over Kdrama watching. The one and only high school Kdrama that I watched and thoroughly enjoyed was Answer Me 1997. It has everything - drama, comedy, coming of age, friendships, first loves, suspense (sort of? since it was so obvious who the husband is) and of course makjang (cancer and older sister dying, anyone?). It has the right amount of humor and heart that made me laugh and cry. You sold me on her first book, so I will pick it up sometime and hopefully I get the 2nd one from you!

Most definitely, hands down the winner is Shut Up Flower Boy Band, or more preferably Shut Up and Let's Go. It had such gritty and raw energy that is still impossible to forget. Not to mention who doesn’t love a good bromance drama.Granted it did have some flaws, like the entire character of the lead heroine, but at the end it was so heart warming to see these dumb kids dream, and mature, and confront life as it was for the- all the while being brave enough to face change and accept it. I guess what made it special for me is that those kids never stalled because they were afraid of the uncertainty future but always embraced it as possibility.

No, I don't know which boy you mean! PODCAST NOW. Ha.

Anyways... mine are also the "School" series. I'll say "School 2013" because it reminded me why I love teaching and teenagers.

Hard to choose between Shut Up Flower Boy Band, School 2013 and Biscuit Teacher Star Candy. But SUFBB probably beats out over S2013 just because of the amount of bromance. Epic bromance would be School 2013 of course! But then BTSC has Gong Yoo. How to choose?

For me, it's either Reply 1997 or Shut Up Flower Boy Band. But probably Reply 1997. It was better overall !!

I also really loved Reply 1997 & I'm currently enjoying School 2015. If Eun Bi doesn't end up with Tae Kwang, I might have to give up Korean dramas. The second lead syndrome (hopefully not) is so strong in this drama.

My choice would be Jungle fish 2.
I am a sucker for high school romances, since I dunno, maybe
infi-noona-ty. So my favourites list includes Sang doo, Lets go to school (starring ghj and Bi, the first high school romance I watched, filled with cute and funny, so even though it got quite makjang towards the second half, I still was completely in love with the drama weeks after I had watched it, like completely hook, line and sinker) and Hello, my teacher (ghj and gy♥ this solidified my love for ghj as well as noona romances more than ever before and that love has yet to subside, I doubt if it ever will). Well then there is another one on my list that might make to the top because of its deviation from the cutesy and glittery and that is jungle fish 2. I thought it was another teen angst driven show before I plunged in and I was pleasantly surprised by the raw and often striking potrayal of love, friendship and betrayal- feelings and emotions you would expect everyone to have experienced as a teenager. The show had its flaws with the then inexperienced actors (not anymore, lee joon, shin so yul etc.) and the overbearing mystery plot but it also had a level head on its shoulders addressing serious issues prevalant universally wherever teenagers are, that too very boldly, presenting and resolving them with taste. With just 8 eps the show left me wanting for more. And that for a show that I was hesistant to start watching has a lot to speak for itself. So my vote to jungle fish 2, a surprisingly mature teen high school drama that left me in awe.

Angry Mom is my favorite. We laughed together, we cried together and all in the name of justice. A kick-ass mom dressed as a high schooler defending her daughter from a corrupt system lead by crazy mad men...that all a K-drama fan ever wants. It was an amazing journey to see all the characters (both adults and kids) develop into beautiful people. Plus I'm having Bang-wool/Bok-dong ship withdrawals!

I love AM1997 oh so so sooooo very much... School 2013 was great too, and I remember liking Dream High--though it feels like a distant memory. Shi Won and Yong Jae totally won me over though, so AM 1997 it is!

Picking the high school drama I love the most is difficult. Dream High was fun, Angry Mom was exhilarating, and School 2015 is really hitting all the right notes (although, like Girlfriday, I'll hold off until the results are in on the love triangle before distributing any ribbons). Instead, I'll choose the drama I loved most OFTEN: Answer Me 1997. I've easily watched it 5 times through and not only have I not tired of it, but I still cry and laugh just as hard as I did the first time. It's a rare drama that resonates so deeply and somehow manages to feel nostalgic despite sharing so few similarities with my own high school experiences.

I have not sat and watched a Korean drama in a very long time; especially since I discovered this wonderful website where access to well written recaps are just a click away (thanks!) However, recently, I finished "reading" Angry Mom and have to say, I fell in love with the story line. I was intrigued the entire time and actually ended up watching the drama. It did not disappoint, especially in areas where I was afraid it would. I'm glad the drama did not lose focus on the mother-daughter relationship and limited the potential love story between mom and Noah nor mom and Bok-dong (cause that would have been weird, although I admit, it was cute). The actions a mom is willing to take to protect their children was admirable and I am very glad dramabean staff decided to recap it. So....thanks! Ya'll the best!

There is something so nostalgic about Boys Before Flowers(it was my first k-drama) that still gets me...sigh.
First love hurts, right?

It was only partially set in high school and it was totally flawed but Playful Kiss just reminded me so much of being a teenager. The giddy daydreaming about that one boy, the crushing embarrassment when you mess up, the joy when he notices you. And the horror of waking up one day and realizing everyone else around you has grown up while you've been daydreaming. It was sweet yet oh-so frustrating to watch, but so was high school.

I feel like I may be in the minority he here, but my favorite high school drama has to be Monstar. Something about how young the actors seemed rang true to me, and the use of music just worked. The characters seemed immature in a good way.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal <3 I love crossdressing dramas (even if they're super unrealistic), and the quartet was my favorite. Plus, Moon Jae-shin...swoon. If that doesn't count, Answer Me 1997 for sure. Jung Eun-ji was fabulous as Sung Shi-won, and the drama was hilarious and nostalgic in all the right ways.
