Campus drama Cheese in the Trap completes cast

Lee Sung-kyung, Park Min-ji, Yoon Ye-joo

I didn’t think we’d ever see the end of the casting drama for this drama, but it looks like we’ve finally secured all the major characters for tvN’s adaptation of the hit webtoon Cheese in the Trap. The campus drama stars Park Hae-jin (Bad Guys) as the cold, perfect leading man and Kim Go-eun (Eungyo) as the everywoman heroine in a college romance that’s characterized by delicate emotional interplay, strife, and love.

The latest addition to the cast is rising model-turned-actress Lee Sung-kyung, who debuted in It’s Okay It’s Love (she played Lee Kwang-soo’s pink-haired girlfriend) and followed it up with a major role in the weekend drama Queen’s Flower. She’s been cast as Baek In-ha, the noona to main romantic rival Baek In-ho, played by Seo Kang-joon (Hwajeong).

She and her brother have known Park Hae-jin for a long time, and her character is described as an eye-catching beauty. She uses that beauty to date two, sometimes three guys at a time, and has a temper on top of being selfish. She seems like a wild card, but she’ll probably be good for stirring the pot?

Park Min-ji (When a Man Loves, Great Seer) will play Kim Go-eun’s best friend Jang Bora, as part of the heroine’s loyal trio of friends along with Nam Joo-hyuk (Who Are You—School 2015). Her character is refreshingly frank and loyal, bright, and easygoing, and the three friends go everywhere together. Aw, they sound sweet.

Newbie Yoon Ye-joo, who played Kim Yoo-jung’s best friend in Angry Mom, has been cast as Kang Ah-young — she’s a cute little sister type to the heroine, who grew up with Kim Go-eun and her brother (Kim Hee-chan, The Producers). She’ll join the gang as a freshman in the art department at their school.

Cheese in the Trap will be directed by PD Lee Yoon-jung (Heart to Heart, Coffee Prince) and written by Kim Nam-hee (Little Mom Scandal, Tree of Heaven). It’s scheduled to follow Bubblegum on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning in December.

Lee Sung-kyung's got a highly unusual eye colour for a Korean so I guess that's why they decided to cast her and Seo Kang-joon as the Baek siblings (who are mixed).

I liked her well enough in It's Ok, It's Love but I do hope she and SKJ both step up their acting game. And while I am thrilled about Park Hae-jin's casting and look forward to seeing him with Kim Go-eun, I do wonder how this is going to look, since he's quite a bit older than the rest of the cast (and isn't supposed to be, as per the webtoon).

above all, I hope to god the script is decent and not a mess.

Oh right, Seo Kang-joon also has unusual eyes, doesn't he (very light brown, I think)?

Oh yes, she had a picture of herself with her father--she gets it from him. I also think Kim Sung Oh has beautiful colored and looking eyes--I noticed them in "Jeju Island Gatsby"

Yoon Ye-joo was really adorable as Lee Sang-yoon's little sister in Angel Eyes, I like her so much as an actress. I'm sure this character suits her to a T.

I've not read the webtoon but the story seems like it would be a very delicate tightrope to walk. The premise sounds horribly boring so unless the writer can give us characters and situations to care about it seems like this could either be a very boring show or an amazing one. Hopefully the writer can pull off an amazing show.

Oooh, give it a try. I love recommending this because it sort of takes you by surprise. I think you have to read the entirety of the first arc at least to know if you like it or not, though.

Oh, I'll definitely give it a try. Hopefully the writer is adept enough to make this show amazing.

Hopefully. I think the direction will be great but I've never seen anything from the writer. I actually thought it was the writer who worked on Coffee Prince but I guess I read wrong.

If that can help, I wrote a post about this manhwa years ago, and I mentioned that the synopsis may seem boring or dull, but this manhwa is totally worth the read!

It was an interesting read, thanks! Do you ever figure out Yoo Jung's deal or is that left open at the end?

Well, the last time I read it (season 3, and it's not over yet), Yoo Jung seemed to reveal many aspects of his personality to Sul but you're still left wondering if he's genuine or not.
It's sometimes frustrating, but in my opinion this is definitely what sets Cheese apart from other mangas/manhwas.

Yay! I like almost everyone's casting (everyone except Seo Kang-joo -- I just can't picture him as In-ho). But one iffy actor in the entire cast is pretty good. Now just hope that the writing is up to scratch...

Lee Min Ki would be great. But I think, Park Ki Woong would be awesome too as Baek In Ho.

Appearance-wise, I think the casting is good. I'm not very sure about the acting since I haven't watched all of them in dramas, but I think the main couple will do well. It just feels like their aura is very similar to the characters..

I think this is good. They spent a lot of time on this so hopefully it can all come together in the end. And there are new faces (for me) as well, so that's always refreshing.

Lee Sung Kyung and Seo Kang Joon do look alike when I think about it so I see they bounced off of him for that casting. I can see her playing a mischievous femme fatale and hope she can bring out the vulnerability of the character as well.

Wishing the best for the cast and crew. I hope it all goes well.

Yeah it's the hair and the eyes. The heroine's eyes are quite sharp and so are LSK. Based on her personality as seen on RM I wouldn't mind seeing her as CITT's heroine.

I think Lee Sung-kyung is perfect as Baek In-Ha and Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho.

So excited for this Drama!

Yay! Finally! This is good. I like this casting. .

Lee Sung-Kyung does look younger than Park Hae-Jin and Seo Kang-Joon but oh well. Other than that, she's great! I'm excited to see her pick fights with strangers, make huge scenes, and generally cause panic as In-Ha.

Also Yoon Ye-Joo is such a perfect fit for Ah-young. She and Kim Hee-chan are going to be so cute together!

Who's gonna play Lee Younggon and that annoying senior guy? Or maybe they aren't in the story at all, but to be honest I've been picturing Kyung Mo from OMG as Lee Younggon. Maybe shorter?

I really hope the writer doesn't disappoint on this because this is really one of the best we toons out there, the characters are so real and 3D and full of growth.

It looks like they've already been cast.

Kim Sang-Chul (annoying senior guy) - Moon Ji-Yoon
Oh Young-Gon - Ji Yoon-Ho
Kyung Hwan (Yoo Jung's friend) - Ko Hyeon

I'm not much happy with the female lead... I would rather have Lee Sung-kyung have the role than the current one. :(

I haven't finished Cheese in the Trap but I recently realized it is basically a modern Pride & Prejudice.

LSK do look a lot younger than PHJ where in the manhwa, Jung supposed to call InHa noona. haha. Anywho, really looking forward for this drama.

Exactly my thought! Pride and Prejudice is like my favorite story of all time so the resemblance did strike me at some point too. However, Jung is a much less perfect man than Mr Darcy which makes the Webtoon much more realistic.
