Hyeri offered leading role in SBS drama Entertainer

Answer Me 1988’s Hyeri is the latest actor in contention to join SBS’s Entertainer, which is still courting Ji Sung (Kill Me, Heal Me) to headline as the president of an agency repping the lowest rungs on the showbiz ladder.

The drama is set in the K-pop world, featuring stories of love and growth told with warmth and heart. That’s the promise, anyway; at the center of the story is the agency president putting together a band and learning what it takes to become a genuine manager for his artists. Sort of like Dream High meets… She’s So Lovable? Is that a bad example? Maybe Dream High is all the comparison we need, since that’s the best example I can think of a music-industry drama that successfully balanced stories of youthful dreams with musical themes and a lot of heart.

Hyeri would play the female lead, a 22-year-old young woman who has lost both parents and sells fish at the marketplace, and she’ll have a loveline with the agency president. Okay, so throw a dash of You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin into the mix too.

It’s too bad Park Bo-gum recently declined the role of one of the musicians at the agency, although it could also be a good thing since it’s barely been any time at all since they were together in Answer Me. Even if you wanted to see them again, it would probably be best to have more than a couple months off before the reunion, no?

Entertainer premieres on April 20 as SBS’s next Wednesday-Thursday drama following Come Back, Ajusshi.

Omg, ahaha! Did you just make this?

Thank goodness for '88 though, because if I'd only seen her in Hyde, I'd never imagine her pulling off a lead role. Still kinda iffy, but at least now I know she's got potential.

Honestly, I was really looking forward to her next drama since she impressed me in Reply, but nothing about this sounds good (other than Ji Sung). She could do better and should pick a good project...and this doesn't sound like it. I also can't imagine the two having a loveline. Their age difference is huge.

It's a good thing that Bogum rejected or else he would have not been paired with Hyeri on the same drama? Lol.

Aw shucks! Park Bo Gum declined the role. :(
it would be great to see them again in another drama, but from the looks of it, Ji Sung is the lead. Which is not a bad thing.

W/ the $$ Hyeri is making off her slew of CF endorsement deals, she could pretty much retire now.

Why would what I had stated imply that I was jealous?

She has enough to retire - that doesn't make her wealthy, much less uber-wealthy.

I like Hyeri just fine and I wouldn't mind watching her on my screen again, it's the scriptwriter that puts me off. I've watched four dramas/movies of hers and hated them all, I'm not sure I wanna give her another chance :O

I think she's fine when handled right, I just don't think she's lead role material (most idol actors aren't, barring a handful like Yoon Doo-joon, Im Shi-wan and Jung Eunji).

I wonder how she'll do without the tempering influence of the Answer Me PD.

It'll be interesting for sure, my best bet is they'll give her a similar type of character as Deok-sun, in which she can shine and within her comfort zone. I'm surprised she's even considering this as her follow up though, a weak writer (maybe it's just the projects I happened to watch that were bad idk), a drama that needed to start filming yesterday, and according to some comments she has a comeback with her GG next month......

ACK!
I know it's too soon, but the shipping self of me just growl at the missed chance of them being together again :"

But I guess it was probably better to see them being successful on their own first THEN got together again in other drama later on :)
But again, personally, I want them both to pick good projects, so I hope if Hyeri really does take this one, it's a good one.

This pd must've been a fan of AM1988

either way, they need to pick actors fast because this drama is barely a month and a half away from airing, talk about sloppy scheduling.

Dis SBS learn nothing from the debacle of She's So Lovable?

but lol @the thought of a (now-thwarted) Park Bo-gum/Hyeri reunion so soon after Answer Me.

It would have beeen so awesome to see Bo gum and Hyeri together again in the same drama (and reliving Second lead syndrome feelings again but it's for SURE this time LOL) but have to agree that it's too soon. I'm also not entirely sure for Ji-sung and Hyeri as a pair given the writer's previous dramas, but anything can happen! Hoping the best for the show though, if they both decide to accept.

I'm actually looking forward to this drama–and it's not because it'll premiere on my birthday! ;) but it sounds interesting to me, actually.

I was bummed to hear about Park Bo-gum leaving this project, but if Hyeri's really a top contender for the female lead, then I think I'm good. While I ADORED their characters individually in '88, it was tough for me to accept them as a couple when... *sigh* Jungpal... So I think this would've been #toosoon.

It's like, as if it wasn't painful the first time around... We would've been gutted AGAIN! No thank you. Let's save it for next time.
In the meantime, I could definitely go for a Park Bo-gum and Kim Go-eun reunion, please!

I dont think she will accept.
first of all, not because Bogum refused it (shipper would thought she would reject because Bogum did and would think every decision she made related to his decision lmao), but because this drama does not guarantee a success. the real challenge of every reply's actor is back to back success, which is why they carefully pick their next project.
and this project doesnt sound good at all...
2nd, i did remember that GD has a comeback this month? can she handle that ? come back and drama at the same time.

Sa wait, they saw har in answer me 1988 and th ok thought it would be a good idea to give her another lead? Why exactly? She's not horrible but she's a solid secondary at best she can't carry a leading role.

I am having a hard time buying a love line between her and Ji Sung. They're mismatched. They should get someone closer in age, then I wouldn't feel weirded out.

I don't know if this is the right time for Hyeri to be taking on a new project. She is still basking in the glow of Reply 1988 and the CFs are still flooding in. A bad drama/performance can mess with all that windfall.

I agree, it's actually better for her to ride that Answer Me popularity wave for a bit longer instead of breaking into it with what sounds like a flop in the making.

Jung Eun-ji also took on her next project within less than two months of the end of 1997, but it was a Noh Hee-kyung supporting role - which is a whole other league away from, well, this.
