Kim Ji-won in the running to romance prince Park Bo-gum

Well that was fast. Upcoming KBS fusion sageuk Moonlight Drawn by Clouds just confirmed Park Bo-gum (Answer Me 1988) to play its hero, and already the casting rounds have begun for his co-star.

Producers say she’s just one of many possibilities, but Kim Ji-won (Descended From the Sun) is in consideration for the leading role. I hadn’t thought of her when the show was first announced, but I’ve always liked Kim Ji-won — she’s emotive and has good range for a young actress, so I’m happy with the potential casting.

The new series is an adaptation of a web novel by Yoon Yi-soo, and the drama comes from the team behind Who Are You—School 2015. It’s a youth romance set in 19th-century Joseon, about a girl who crossdresses and pretends to be a worldly man in order to give out love advice. She’s the daughter of a traitor who must keep her identity hidden, and eventually she enters the palace as a eunuch.

She’ll become friends with real-life historical figures Crown Prince Hyomyeong (played by Park Bo-gum) and Joseon scholar/poet Kim Sat-gat (yet to be cast), and have lovelines with both of them. The drama is a coming-of-age story about youths in Joseon, and though the setup is familiar, I like the idea of a resourceful love guru heroine and her cover life as a palace eunuch. Only hijinks could ensue.

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds is being considered for a Monday-Tuesday slot in July or August on KBS.

This is great news. I love Ji Won and Bogummie :D

So far they have chosen well their projects, so fingers crossed, I hope this will be a good one and gets them the recognition they deserve, yay!

KBS said nothing is confirmed and the way they phrased the article it looks like Kim Ji Won's definitely not in the running, or at least they're courting someone who's got more star power than her. :/

If they had someone with more star power they wouldn't bother releasing articles about her, they would go with the other choice directly. If an article is released saying someone is considered it generally means she's the highest on the list of consideration and if the public likes her, then the deal is done.

not really, in this case it's more likely that a 3rd party fount out and leaked it because kbs denied the reports within 30 minutes - the tone of language used was very similar to jung woo's situation, where the actors' agencies were trying to be careful with their words and claiming they only got the offer and the stations saying a firm no, nothing is confirmed. what's likely is that kbs is trying to get an actress to sign and don't want the drama to be labeled as "the one that kim ji won's rejected."

Wow, y'all really like Kim Ji-won! I was really hoping for a Kim Go-eun and Park Bo-gum reunion, so *sigh*

I guess I'm okay with this. I just haven't seen enough of Kim Ji-won's works to really draw a conclusion on how I feel about her yet. I mean, I saw her for the first time in Heirs, and, well, didn't like her character. I'm liking her in Descendants, though. I'm taking everyone's word though, so count me in!
